Beginning in November you will be able to borrow passes to four different museums; the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City (http://www.licm.org/), Old Westbury Gardens in Westbury (http://www. oldwestburygardens.org/), the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum (http://www.cshwhalingmuseum. org/) and the American Museum of Natural History in New York City (www.AMNH.org). We hope you will take the opportunity to spend a day at one of them (or at all four) and then come to the Library to borrow books, DVDs and other materials to learn more. Please check with the Youth Services Department in Dix Hills for details. Each pass will provide entrance for two adults and two children and will have a short loan period in order to make the passes available to as many people as possible. We are excited about beginning this pilot program and are interested in your feedback. Kwanzaa is a celebration of the cultural roots of African Americans and a time to reflect upon family values. Bus Trips The Neue Galerie & The Museum of The City Of New York Thursday, February 7. Ticket sales begin 11/10. We will have a guided tour of the Gustave Klimt exhibition at the Neue Galerie, which is devoted to early 20th century German and Austrian art. Klimt was a prominent member of the Vienna Art Nouveau movement, an artist whose paintings have brought some of the highest prices recorded. Next, luncheon at Carmine’s and then a guided tour at the Museum of the City of New York. Cost: $95.00 per person, includes admissions, transportation, luncheon and all gratuities. New York Philharmonic At Lincoln Center Friday, March 7. Ticket sales begin 11/3. After a luncheon at Josephina Restaurant, we will attend a pre-concert talk about the performance. The concert program of Haydn: Symphony No. 48, Maria Theresia; Berio: Folk Songs and Beethoven: Symphony No. 4, features Conductor Alan Gilbert, the Music Director of the 09-10 season and Soprano, Audra McDonald, an artist at home from Broadway to opera to pop. Page 2 Meet Sculptor David T. Haussler Friday, November 16, 2:30 pm (DH) LI artist/sculptor David T. Haussler will discuss the concepts behind his World Trade Center Remembrance Project. The sculpture, depicting the Twin Towers on 9.11.01, will ultimately reside in a museum in NYC dedicated to 9.11. He will show slides and explain how and why it was made, where it will be displayed and talk about the journal that accompanies the exhibition. The scupture is on display in the Lower Level of the Dix Hills building through December 13.
