Camp Dean Resident Camp
Your camper can choose from our 3-day/2-night or 6-day/5-night resident camp sessions where she will stay overnight in Camp Dean’s sleeping cabins
and explore camp during the day. If she wants to give tent camping a try, all campers will have the option to sleep in a tent one night during their stay.
Trained Camp Dean staff will provide opportunities for your camper to explore the outdoors and experience numerous camp activities including creek

Ponytails at Camp Dean
Ponytails is one of our most popular camp options! Your camper can join us for 3 or 6 days at Camp Dean to spend time with the horses—caring for them
and learning to ride—and enjoy activities like swimming, arts and crafts, and outdoor cooking when not with the horses. She will stay overnight in the Camp
Dean sleeping cabins. If your camper comes for a 6-day session, she will also experience a trail ride! Our camp staff and equestrian experts are ready to
help all our Ponytail campers saddle up for summer fun! Note: Riding for 3-day sessions is done in an arena, 6-day sessions will include a trail ride.

Is your camper just getting started on her camp journey? Camp McCormick Day Camp encourages her to explore camp each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Does camping with the whole troop during the summer sound like fun? With our new Troop Camping sessions, the whole troop can experience summer
camp together in platform tents! Summer camp staff will be on hand to lead camp activities like swimming, arts and crafts, archery (age level restrictions
apply), and outdoor cooking! Troops are responsible for providing adequate adult supervision (consult the Camping Safety Activity Checkpoint). Session
fee includes activity supplies, food, and camp staff support. Outdoor Overnight Training is not required!

Camp Information
Campers with Disabilities
The goal of our camps is to provide a successful experience for all girls. Please communicate with the Felecia Dupczak, fdupczak@girlscoutsni.org, about
campers with any special needs or disabilities. This enables our camps to make every effort to accommodate those needs in each facility with
appropriate staff.
Transportation
Transportation to and from camp is NOT included in any camp session.
Health and Safety
All Girl Scout camps in this brochure are licensed by their state and uphold state and
federal health and safety codes, as well as Girl Scouts of the USA policies and standards.
Camp Dean and Camp McCormick are also accredited by the American Camp Association.
All camps meet industry standards for health and site safety, food service management,
human resources, program design, and activities. Health centers are staffed by a resident
health supervisor. Unit counselors are first-aid/CPR trained. For all camps, emergency care
is available at a nearby clinic or hospital. No camper—child or adult—is admitted to camp
without proper health forms being completed and signed. Each camp has procedures in
place to monitor and respond to emergencies, including weather conditions, to ensure the
health and safety of campers.
Visitors
Families are encouraged to visit camp during their scheduled Open House, prior to the start of summer camp sessions. To ensure safety and security, no
visitors are allowed on site during camp sessions.
Program Changes
Although rare, the Girl Scout council, for a variety of reasons, may occasionally cancel a camp session. If this occurs, you can expect the entire camp fee,
including the deposit, to be refunded. Other times, certain activities described in the camp sessions must be suspended or changed due to
circumstances beyond our control, such as inclement weather, equipment availability, and staffing. In these situations, we adapt by offering alternate
program options. Under circumstances of this type, refunds should not be expected.

Registration for all summer camps will be on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning February 10, 2016.

may be cash, check, or charge. Financial

deposits. Family camps must be paid in
full at time of registration.
Balance Due/Required Paperwork
All balances are due to a GSNI Service Center by June 1, 2016. Camper paperwork will be due at check-in at the beginning of each camp session.
Buddy Preference
An important part of camp is making new friends. However, we understand that your camper may feel more comfortable coming to camp with a friend.
Two girls who would like to attend camp together should fill in the buddy preference section on the registration form and mail the two registration forms
together in the same envelope to guarantee both are registered for the program. Buddy requests must be mutual and for the same camp and session.
Both campers must satisfy prerequisites.
Refunds
Deposits and Family Camp fees are non-refundable. A full refund, including deposit, is made only if a camper cannot be placed in a program or if it is
necessary to cancel the program. At the end of the summer, partial refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis and only in the case of
extenuating family circumstances or medical reasons supported by a doctor’s statement. No refunds will be made for campers arriving late, leaving early,
attending only part of the program, or for those who fail to attend. Contact Emily Hall at ehall@girlscoutsni.org or call 847-741-5521, Ext. 7132, for a refund
request form.
Financial Assistance
To apply for Financial Assistance, complete the Campership Application available at www.girlscoutsni.org. The application must be submitted with $50
deposit and registration form. Initial campership application deadline is April 1, 2016, with notice of initial award sent after April 15, 2016. Additional
assistance can be awarded after this deadline, if funds remain. Financial assistance is available only to registered members of GSNI. Applications will not
be processed without the deposit and registration form.

These certificates, earned by Girl Scouts through participation in GSNI product programs, may be used toward the balance of a girl’s camp fee. They may

Reservation Procedures
Availability
Before sending in your rental request and deposit/payment, please visit our website camp pages for calendars or send an email to the Campsite
Coordinator at sitecoordinator@girlscoutsni.org.
All requests to use any GSNI camp property must be sent to the Campsite Coordinator in the Elgin Service Center at least three weeks prior to the
desired date and must include the deposit or full payment. Any request submitted less than three weeks prior than the desired date will not be
considered. Troops and groups can book sites up to one year in advance.
Campsite reservations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis with deposit. If the site you requested is not available, you will be contacted by
the Campsite Coordinator.
Deposits and Fees
A $50 deposit per site is required with all rental requests for GSNI troops. The deposit will be cashed. Deposits do not go toward site fees. Upon camp
check out, the ranger or site monitor will give you a Troop Camp Report. This report is due within two months of stay or your deposit will be forfeited.
When the Troop Camp Report is returned to the Elgin Service Center, and the ranger has confirmed everything was in good condition when you left, a
check will be issued back to your account. Please allow two weeks for processing.
Registration forms must be accompanied by the deposit, in the form of a check made out to Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) or a credit/debit card.
Authorization to make charges to the card is required and all information pertaining to the card must be completed and signed by the card holder. Site
fees are due three weeks from the reservation date. If sending a check payment for the site fees, please attach it to the bottom of the invoice sent in
confirmation packet, along with your check, to the Elgin Service Center.

for adults to lead activities and take Girl Scouts camping! Participants
receive full instructions and safety guidelines for facilitating outdoor
experiences for others during these trainings. Never been camping
with your troop before? Start with the Field Trip Basics Home Study!
Then, move onto Indoor Overnight Training for lodge usage and
round out your training experiences with Outdoor Overnight Training
for tent or cabin camping. Don’t let your troop miss out on an
