Issue Seven February 16 Our Trip to Brazil The School Visits by Maisie Wilson On Friday the 6th of November, Miss Peel (Year 6 teacher) and Miss Beuster (Year 2 teacher) started their journey to Brazil. They started off by flying from Newcastle to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Sao Paulo, Brazil. During their time in Sao Paulo, the teachers took a 4 hour bus journey to Araraquara (pronounced arr-a-ra-quara) to visit their school. In this school, the children were ages 15-17. Unlike the first school, it had more learning recourses, but still not so many. Interviews with Miss Peel and Miss Beuster by Jessica Armstong In Sao Paulo they went to visit the first school, where learning facilities were not very popular. Unlike schools in the UK, there were no bookshelves, displays, etc. The classrooms were very bare and unfortunatly not very colourful. First the boys did running (track events) which was relay javelin and running, while girls did field events such as speed bounce, triple jump, and long jump. Maisie Wilson said, Netball February 16 “I really enjoyed today, my favourite sport was the long jump but I really liked all of them!” Asha Hunter also said, “I just did the running and I am so tired but it was really fun!” At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed what we had done and we were very proud too. We were all very tired and worn out but loved every single moment of it! On Thursday the 12th November Year 6 and Year 5 went to a netball tournament at Ferryhill College. There were eight other schools but only two courts to play in! We had two teams each played twice; we even played against each other. The results of that one were AV1 vs. AV2. AV1 got 1 point and AV2 won with 4 points. When we played against Hardwick AV1 got 1 point and Hardwick got 0! When AV2 vs. Coxhoe we got 2 points and they got 0 again! Everyone there played extremely well. We all enjoyed it! By Maisie Wilson On Friday the 13th of November, our school took part in Children in Need’s ‘Funny Hair Day’. Thank you to everyone who donated and/or made the effort with their hair! Children in Need are a charity for children who are not as fortunate as we are. We raised money to this charity by donating 1 pound (or maybe more) each. In total our school raised 143 pounds. By Maisie Wilson We are very grateful to everybody who donated, whether they had silly hair, or not! Well done to all of the children, parents and teachers for taking part. Forgetting the fact it involved blue hands and red faces, it was still a very good day. Issue Seven Eyes on Aycliffe Village February 16 Making Scones (1) First we had different ingredients and they were margarine, flour, one egg and some milk. (2) Next we put in the margarine and then we tried to make the mixture into breadcrumbs. It was very sticky! (3) Then we had to add the milk and we added the egg. We needed to use spoons to mix it because we were not allowed to use our hands. When it wasn’t so sticky, we were allowed to use our hands . (4) Then we had to crush it altogether and then put it on the side. We had to roll it out but we rolled it a bit thin! We started again and made it a bit thicker. We cut little shapes out of it. (5) We put them in the oven and they baked for 5 or 10 mins - then voila - they were done and they smelt so good! E-Safety Tip Written by Liam Smurthwaite and typed by Harry Spence and Grace Bone E- Safety Rules: • • • • • Tell your parents if something happens; Don’t meet up with strangers; Don’t post rude or inappropriate photos; Don’t talk to strangers; NEVER give any personal information! In assembly a policeman came in to talk to us about anti bullying week, and one of the biggest bullying problems is cyber bullying, because it causes people to get embarrassed so they don’t report it. Therefore it never stops and some people get so depressed that they self harm. This is extremely bad so if it happens to you REPORT IT!!! Issue Seven Eyes on Aycliffe Village February 16 Speed Run Tutorial By Max Whitaker HOW TO SPEEDRUN SUPER MARIO BROS 1-1 When you play this game always press the ‘B’ button to run, then avoid every Goomba. Enter the forth pipe and go to the exit as quickly as possible, then go right to the end. 1-2 Continue to run from now on, avoid the two Goombas by jumping of the ? blocks. Time your jumps so you don’t hit any pillars and avoid all enemies. When you get to the moving platforms, jump up to the ceiling and past the pipe, and go down the pipe which has a four above. 4-1 Jump the first pipe and run past the falling spiked balls, then just finish the level. 4-2 Go through the level as normal then jump between the forth ? blocks and go onto the moving elevators then hit the farthest block. Position yourself directly under the block and jump, use the platform to climb the plant then warp to World 8, then just finish the rest of the levels and you’re done. In the P.E class at that school, they made up a dance to the song ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson. Miss Peel took a video of the dance so that we could see what it was like. Being in Year 6, we do dancing during the Winter in P.E, so this term we are learning the dance and if we have time, we will add some more moves into the routine. When we have finished, we will video it and sent it to Brasil. Eyes on Aycliffe Village Issue Seven February 2016 Tricky Pictures by Jessiemay Norman DID THAT MOVE? Wooooooow!
