Jeff Kinney Jeff Kinney is the author of the popular series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He was born in 1971 in Maryland. He has a brother named Patrick and a sister named Annmarie. His dad was in the Navy and his mom was a teacher. Jeff went to Eugene Burrows Middle School, and his middle school life was similar to Greg Heffley’s. Jeff read books like Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume growing up. Jeff went to Villanova University in Pennsylvania where he started cartooning. His first comic strip was “Igdoof”, which was published in the school news. It was also published in the University of Maryland. “Igdoof” became so popular, it was in other college newspapers, too. In 1995, Jeff moved to Boston, where he kept a joke notebook. When a family education network asked him to write a kid’s book for their website, Jeff came up with Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Zootopia (Rated PG) This new movie (out on DVD) is wild fun! Zootopia is about Judy, a bunny who wants to be a cop. She has grown up to hate foxes, and when she catches a fox named Nick pulling off a scam, she drives him to jail. But before that, he convinces her to solve a case of missing animals. Watch the movie to find out if Judy and Nick solve the case! (Comic by Nora K.) “THROWBACK” TV SPOTLIGHT by Lili K. Rolie Polie Olie was a children’s TV show that ran from 1998-2004. This show is about a young robot who lives with his wacky robot family in a robotic world. Throughout this TV show, the young robot Olie learns many valuable lessons. It has a catchy theme song and quite an entertaining plot- you should watch it! (You can get DVDs at the library- there are even some books about this character!) TRY THIS MAGAZINE! by Caleb H. SERIES VS. SERIES by Lili K. Percy Jackson and the Olympians introduces you to the life of demi-gods at Camp Half-Blood. These are the children of one Greek god and one mortal. You follow Percy and his friends on their quest to defeat Kronus from rising back to power. Follow them throughout this action-packed, heartbreaking series to watch these young heroes grow up and save the world! VS. The Heroes of Olympus shows you a new aspect of the demi-gods. You discover there are actually Roman demigods, too. However, they are the Greeks’ enemy. Will they be able to align forces in time to defeat Gaea from returning to power. Can they save the world? Boys’ Quest What I really like about Boys’ Quest is that each magazine has a comic. On the back of each issue, it says what the next one will be about and that’s cool. One magazine was about cool mountains and awesome caves and I think that one’s the best! You should check it out! (Illustration by Grailey D.) GAMES AND PUZZLES by Lili K. (Illustration by Sara M.) It’s a cool place to go in the summer. (Illustration by Lili K.) MANG POOL VERMONT by Lili K. by Nora K. Go to the Mang Pool in Kenmore! At the Mang Pool, you can swim and dive. Let’s say the average book (adult section) has 64,000 words, and we know now that we have 59,284 books in the library- what would the total amount of words be? Can you figure it out???
