ANTHROPOSOPHY NYC 7:00pm – donations MONTHLY MEMBERS’ EVENING First-Friday members’ evenings resume, working on the new theme of the year: “The I Knows Itself – in the Light of Michaelic World Affirmation.” Like the Anthroposophical Society, the individual confronts the same challenges as other contemporaries and must also find a connection to the world—as a basis for self-knowledge. Refreshments will be served. 7:00pm – regular fees Monthly Lecture THE RELATIONSHIP OF ANTHROPOSOPHY & YOGA David Taulbee Anderson These lectures will focus on the processes involved in meditation as described in anthroposophy and Raja Yoga. We are beginning a performance group, directed by Vincent Roppolo and David Taulbee Anderson, working on a piece by David in the direction of opera in its Healthy nurturing touch is critical to the social, emotional, behavioral and physiologic development of children. This workshop focuses on the impact of early tactile and sensory experience on achievement of self-regulatory milestones in the first year of life. We will see how child development and relatedness can best be understood through the prism of sensory experience, in which the skin and touch serve as the bridge between the child’s inner and outer worlds. Physiological, embryologic, cultural, and historical roots of touch will widen how we understand this non-verbal yet uniquely relational experience. Topics of discussion: neuroscience of interpersonal touch; physiologic, emotional, social & behavioral effects; embryology & cell physiology; genetic basis for touch effects; cultural and historical foundations; debunking the theory of spoiling; medical research. LINDA GAROFALLOU, MS, LMT, CEIM: is Infant & Pediatric Massage Therapist at the Center for Autism & Early Childhood Mental Health at Montclair State University. Our celebration will include presentations, music and poetry. Tea, coffee and other beverages are provided; attendees please bring sweet and savory finger-foods to 7:00pm - regular fees Kühlewind Lecture BRAKING FOR ALLIGATORS: From Normal to Possibly Healthy Alexander Dreier A humorous monologue drawing on the author’s medical odyssey through a mind-field of symptoms, acronyms, and neuro-jargon to his confirmed diagnosis of Lewy Body Disease, a neurological condition with intriguing epistemological consequences. While largely comedic in nature, “Braking for Alligators” has its reflective moments, covering a wide territory ranging from the experience of cognitive impairment to the ontology of “visual illusions” and hallucinations, as well as the deeper meanings of illness and why we keep losing our glasses. ALEXANDER DREIER: humorist, retired psychologist, and longtime student of Georg Kühlewind has written and performed a number of autobiographical comic monologues over the past 15 years. All of his monologues explore what it means to be human, and how life can so often be unexpectedly and exquisitely humorous. In November 1910 in Berlin Rudolf Steiner introduced his only dedicated psychology course. He never gave a follow up psychosophy course as it was never requested, but he predicted that this would take place in the future. Inspired by last summer’s Festival, the group has taken up the first play, The Portal of Initiation, reading and discussing it in a circle. A new book is a good time to join any group, and this a special chance to get to know these remarkable plays which explore and reveal the karmic connections and reincarnation paths of spiritually-seeking individuals up to the 20th century. The group meets Wednesdays at 5:30pm; just come! Dyson: A favorite visitor, Dr. James Dyson, visits again on March 18th, at 7pm. James is an anthroposophic physician whose special interests include child development, mental health, and psychosynthesis psychology. He was a co-founder of Park Attwood Clinic where he worked for 25 years. His topic for this evening lecture will be “The Soul’s Two Paths to the Threshold: Buddha and Zarathustra in Our Times.” Rudolf Steiner’s research connects two great leaders of humanity, Buddha and Zarathustra, to two paths, one leading the soul outward into the elements, the other inward, transforming the three soul forces of thought, feeling, and will. In our times, Steiner points to the need to integrate them so that the principle of initiation becomes the principle of civilization. SteinerBooks: The annual research seminar returns to NYC with “Rudolf Steiner’s Years of Preparation (1861– 1900). March 20–21, 2015, at the Kimmel Center of New York University. Dr. Peter Selg will give three lectures on outer and inner aspects of Steiner’s life and circumstances up to his fortieth year; Rahel Kern, author of a recent biography of Marie Steiner, will speak on “Marie Steiner-von Sivers’ Karmic Path”; Christopher Bamford will speak on “Rudolf Steiner’s Life as a Path to Understanding Anthroposophy”; Sea-Anna Vasilas will lead periods of eurythmy. Jericho: Longtime ASNYC member and frequent presenter Lynn Jericho, now living in Chapel Hill, NC, returns March 27-28. The Friday evening talk is “When Two or More Are Gathered: The Mystery of Conversation and Spiritual Beings.” How do two or more human beings engage in conversations that invite the attention and participation of spiritual beings, primarily angels, archangels, archai? How do we experience their presence? Once developed, how can this capacity be applied to other supersensible beings: the dead, the unborn, nature spirits, and the counter forces? The Saturday workshop is “The Karma of Relationships: Lover...Friend...Stranger... Enemy...” Every single relationship has a karmic purpose! The karma of a relationship is not the dramatic story, but the difference it made, how it shaped your soul... More special events in April & May are listed inside... In our times, Steiner points to the need to integrate both into a modern practice of life in which transformation of the outer word and of society becomes in itself the agent for transformation of the soul, but which for its fulfillment guides the soul towards its journey of initiation: that is to say, the principle of initiation becomes the principle of civilization. In this workshop you will discover the real meaning and get to the heart and bone of your encounters with others whether brief, lifelong, or somewhere in between. You will learn much to give you the inner capacities to enrich your experience of your relationships and your imagination of yourself. We will be doing exercises with three or four relationships, so think about the relationships you would like to work with. Who would you be if each of them had not shared time and space and karma with you? LYNN JERICHO: a longtime member of ASNYC and a frequent presenter who focuses on the personal application and experience of anthroposophy, Lynn now lives in Chapel Hill, NC. She mentors individuals seeking to make creative and productive sense of their fourfold lives. It is through the inner work that we can recognize both these gifts with clarity, and as life becomes more complicated, it is through the understanding of the inner work that we may find our way towards one another. We are working with the international theme of the year: “The I Knows Itself – in the Light of Michaelic World Affirmation.” Refreshments will be served. Next dates: May 1, June 5. INNER & OUTER BIOGRAPHY & THE EASTER MYSTERIES Lisa Romero Through understanding the nature of both inner and outer growth we can more readily take the next step in our lives. The inner life is not a room or space but a living, growing world that has its reflection in the outer sense world. Like the outer sense world there are developmental stages and steps that need to be lived through. In both biographies we can learn what is being asked and what is being cultivated in ourselves and in others. We learn to recognise the next step and how each individual can work towards personal and collective evolution. We will be including mysteries of the human biography and karma along with how to be in a living relationship to our inner and outer worlds. In this NYC weekend we will also seek to understand how the Easter season is reflected in individual inner development. Fee: One discounted fee of $175 has been arranged for everyone, covering the full event; FTDs are not applicable. To bring about fundamental reform ... requires courage, integrity, insight, and a long and persistent will. They drew on their own life experiences, on the many penetrating economic and social insights of Rudolf Steiner, and on their own deep commitment to Christ’s teachings to successfully demonstrate economic and moral alternatives to the competitive, self-serving laws of the market [and] make such economic reforms easier for future generations.” CHRISTOPHER SCHAEFER: a lecturer, writer, researcher, and organizational development consultant interested in community development, economic justice, local economies, conflict resolution work and global peace initiatives. By spiritual means it must be struggled and striven for against a host of demons... We must therefore get to know the powers that would cover up and obscure all spiritual knowledge.” So writes T.H. Meyer, from the preface of his forthcoming book on this topic. “The world seems to be standing within a demonic storm that threatens to overwhelm it.” Appeals to traditional religious belief will no longer pacify this storm, and neither will mere “good will” suffice. How can we better recognize the deeper significance of these times and orient ouselves accordingly? T. H. MEYER: born in Switzerland in 1950, he is founder of Perseus Verlag, Basel, and editor of the monthly journals Der Europäer and the new The Present Age. His books include Reality, Truth, and Evil, Rudolf Steiner’s Core Mission, D.N. Dunlop, Ludwig Polzer-Hoditz, and The Development of Anthroposophy since Rudolf Steiner’s Death. Knowledge of Earth’s bodily energies is present in Asia through feng shui, in the West, through geomancy, the wisdom tradition that sees our planet crisscrossed with energy lines. At the nodal points of these lines (Stonehenge, the Pyramids, Sedona, Arizona), human beings have constructed sacred sites that reflect the powerful energies that meet there. “To the inner vision,” writes Pogačnik in Healing the eart of the Earth, “an acupuncture point looks like a sort of energy vortex penetrating vertically into the earth...” If lithopuncture is neither suitable nor possible, Pogačnik uses human beings Location: Friday, 138 West 15th Street. The motifs were given directly in picture form as instructional models containing color and compositional forces that allow the student to enter into a world of forces that express themselves through color. — The pictures which deal with primal color forces also express spiritual imaginations from the contents of anthroposophy. Often pictures are more helpful in understanding subtle aspects of the spiritual world than written or spoken words. This Open Saturday will guide us through the imaginative world represented in these paintings and allow discussions and questions. Explore what Steiner’s clairvoyant imaginations looked like, and discover a pathway into spiritual seeing.
