1: MULTIPLE TANK INSTALLATIONS
With regard to multiple toilet installations, connect tanks with a 110Ø pipe for even distribution of excess
liquid. In addition please install a 50Ø pipe just under the corbeled brick level as an emergency overflow
outlet which could be linked to a soakaway or grey liquid waste system.

2.1
2.1 When locating the toilet align the pit so that the
manhole cover of the toilet will receive maximum
possible sunlight on the sun facing aspect of the
building.
NB: (DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION PROJECTS ONLY)
To avoid project delays, call to arrange for the 1st
inspection prior to completion of item 2.6 and the
final inspection prior to completion of item 3.6.2.

2.2 Excavate a pit to the following dimensions: Length: 2 500 mm
Width: 1 500 mm
Depth: 1 600 mm

These are estimates/guidelines, excavate according
to engineers plans.
2.3 Foundation recommended:
75mm thick x 400mm wide x 150mm
thickening in accordance with
brickwork as per project plans.

2.4 Brickwork double walls, 220mm throughout.
Internal Dimensions:
Length: 1830mm, Width: 830mm, Depth: 1390mm
External Dimensions:
Length: 2270mm, Width: 1270mm, Depth: 1600mm
These dimensions are for unplastered walls.

2.5 Corbel out one half brick at the height
according to the dimensions. The corbelling is
along the width and length of the interior walls.

2.6 Plaster the interior walls (± 10mm plaster)
of the pit completely. To ensure a watertight seal,
paint an epoxy coat over the plastered area or as
recommended by project engineer.

2.7 Position the concrete lintels accordingly.
NOTE: The concrete lintels span the width of the
brick-pit to support the rear external wall of the
building. The interior face of the rear wall must be
built 385 mm from the centre of the toilet flange
protruding from the floor slab.

2.8 Fit the drying plate onto the corbelled
brickwork of the pit walls.
Ensure the raised side of the drying plate is on
the toilet bowl side of the brick pit.
Fix the drying plate in place with mortar around
the edge of the drying plate.

2.9.1 Working inside the top unit fit the 2 inlet
pipes to the respective holes.
NOTE: Fit the liquid level indicator/inlet pipe to
the left hand side of the top unit (viewed from
the inspection cover side).
2.9.2 Bolt these in position with 4 bolts supplied
for each side.

2.10 Position the top unit above the pit and drying
plate. When lowering the top unit onto the pit and
drying late, fit the two air inlet pipes through the
oval holes in the drying plate.
Fix top unit in position with a concrete nail in each
corner.

THE TOILET SUPERSTRUCTURE CAN NOW
BE BUILT, THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS
REMAIN TO BE FITTED AFTER COMPLETION
OF THE STRUCTURE
3.1

2.11 Cast the floor slab over the top unit not
exceeding 150mm thick and throw the concrete
shoulder/ apron around the whole unit sloping the
apron to the outside (manhole) end.
30mm of the toilet flange must protrude from the
floor slab, for fixing the toilet bowl.
> TOILET BOWL, SEAT AND LID.
> OUTLET VENT PIPE, VENTILATION
EXTRACTION UNIT AND VENT BRACKETS.
> ORGANIC STARTER AND ENZYME.
3: INSTALLATION OF REMAINING
COMPONENTS
3.1 Position/secure the toilet bowl with dry mix onto
the toilet flange protruding from the floor slab. The
base of the toilet bowl must rest on the floor slab.

3.2 Assemble toilet seat and lid. Secure
toilet seat and lid with the plastic bolts and
nuts supplied.
3.3.1 Fit the ventilation extraction unit on to the
outlet vent pipe, secure with self-tapper screws
provided.
3.3.2 Position the outlet vent pipe over the flange
above the manhole cover area.

3.4 Position the brackets for the outlet vent pipe
as high as possible to the top of the rear wall for
maximum support.

3.5 Ensure the outlet vent pipe is vertical as
shown.
NOTE: The ventilation extraction unit must be
positioned above the pitch of the roof to ensure
adequate and consistent ventilation.
NB: The vent pipe standard length is 2300mm.
If required there is a 1200mm extension vent pipe
available on request.

3.6.1 Open and pour the contents of both the bag
of organic starter and the sachet of enzyme through
the toilet bowl.
3.6.2 Keep lid closed at all time when the
toilet is not in use.
3.6.3 NB: Final inspection to be performed at this
point.
