Singles International Scuttlebutt President’s Message Hello S.I. Members! June-July 2014 Singles International www.fmca-si.com Volume 30 Issue 4 June-July 2014 Inside this issue: President’s Message 1 Wow! Have you looked at Page 62 of the May FMCA magazine? Check it Officers out!! Our own S.I. members Bob Kelley and Bob McNichols are pictured Treasurer’s Report playing Bean Bag Toss. Way to go, gentlemen! Those of us that attended the Lebanon INTO Rally enjoyed some real country-style music (and jokes) in addition to another great appearance by Sarah Getto. This was a small rally compared to Perry, but it was a very relaxing time and gave us an opportunity to do other things, especially after the rain stopped. A special thank you from me to all the S.I.s who showed up at 6:30 am each morning to assist with the breakfasts that were catered and served by Cracker Barrel staff. We were noticed by others and commented upon for our cheerfulness and helpfulness. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!! Next up is the Fleetwood/GLAMARAMA Rally at Goshen, IN June 10-14. We have been once again requested to help out and though we may be small in numbers, we will do what we can to help. I have heard that several will be having surgeries in the next few months: knee, cataract, foot so my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved for a speedy recovery and good outcome. I will be slowly (emphasis on slowly) making my way westward from FL to OR after July 4th for the FMCA Rally in Redmond to be held Aug. 13-16th. I plan to travel through the plains states – Montana, Wyoming, Idaho – so give a shout and a call if you want to join me. Thank you, Claudia Giddens, for being johnny-on-the-post in retyping the tri-fold flyer due to the badge increase. I have gotten more flyers printed so if anyone needs some, let me know and I will get them to you. We had 250 printed at Perry and we were down to less than 75 at Lebanon. Don’t forget to drop some off at Laundromats or campgrounds you may be patronizing. It is a good tool for letting others know about our chapter. Hope to see you somewhere down the road!! Take care and safe travels to each one of you. Margie P.S. On a personal note, your phone calls, emails and cards were most appreciated when my oldest son, Bob, passed away in March. I did return to California for his small memorial service and got to spend more time with other family and friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Even though the kitchen was closed and we were not able to have our usual breakfasts, we had no shortage of opportunities for group dinners. From the traditional margarita party to sausages on the grill, a grilled chicken dinner and of course the fresh caught fish on the coals there was no shortage. The rainy days found us at either the 3 Legged Mule or the Hitching Post. Just about everyone had an opportunity to go for an ATV ride but the camaraderie was what made the event special. Afternoon socials were well attended but what was said at Cloud 9, stays at Cloud 9. See pictures on page 3. Attendees: Noreen Whalen, Peter Peterson, Bill Molenaar, Marilyn Schillinger, Peter Leodler, Frances Leodler, Cecil Philips, Brenda Deese, Ken Olsen, Bonnie Olsen, Carol Klenow, John Hubbard, Al Buscher, Judy Porter Cloud Nine Fun Publication of Singles International Chapter of FMCA 3 Scuttlebutt June-July 2014 4 Into pre-rally-Lebanon tn The rain from Perry, GA followed the early bird group of S.I.s who arrived for the Lebanon INTO rally. There were several inches of standing water and lots of mud around the coaches. That, however, did not deter the group from having a good time of shopping, eating, visiting, sight-seeing and, of course, cards and games. Betty Howard, Host, made arrangements for us to use the schoolhouse, which we were parked next to, for our happy hours, breakfast and games. Some S.I.s even went to the Grand Ole Opry. The first night, we had strawberry shortcake to celebrate the April birthdays: Claudia Giddens, John McPherson, Betty Howard, and Margie Rodgers. A very special thank you to Claudia and Betty Kirby for arranging that treat. Betty Howard fixed breakfast both mornings – eggs, pancakes, fruit, toast. The sun did come out, warmed us up and dried out the ground. It was nice to have two new members of our chapter join us – Jeannine Fontaine and Tom Cahill. At our last happy hour, we were joined by FMCA President Charlie Adcock and his wife, Gloria. We all introduced ourselves and then he gave us his thoughts and ideas in regard to the future direction of FMCA that he would like to happen. He also gave us an itinerary of their future travels. He is hoping to meet with every FMCA chapter and as many members as he can. Those attending the pre-rally were: Sue Balmert, Tom Cahill, Rosalie Comisky, Rod Cross, Jeannine Fontaine, Claudia Giddens, Betty Howard, Bob Kelley, Marilyn Kelley, Betty Kirby, Dale Koepka, Bob McNichols, John McPherson, Nancy Miller, Margie Rodgers, Ethel Sawyer, and Martha Werre. Submitted by Margie Rodgers Lebanon INTO Rally: After the rains stopped, the week in Lebanon turned out to be very nice and warm. Those of us who were there were entertained by two different country music groups (and their jokes) as well as Sarah Getto. The first afternoon, our speaker was the Historian for the city of Lebanon. He gave a very interesting talk and he also included the fact that he was one of the twelve original members from Lebanon who had the idea of creating the Cracker Barrel restaurants. The first restaurant, however, began in Manchester, about 60 miles south of Lebanon. Cracker Barrel prepared a full course breakfasts and served them for three mornings. The S.I.s were there early each morning to make sure tables were clean and new silverware set out for the attendees. The ice cream social was fun – lots of ice cream for everyone. The chapter fair was very small; we were represented but very few people attended. There weren’t many vendors and less than 10 coaches on display so we didn’t spend lots of money there. We just spent our money at other places like shopping malls, restaurants and the Grand Ole Opry. We also got in some sight-seeing, going as far as Nashville area, which really wasn’t that far. The train that was mentioned was actually a commuter train that left early in the morning and returned late in the afternoon. Betty Howard and Sue Balmert were winners at Card Bingo. Final count for coaches was 198 and the attendance was probably around 400. People are really excited as Charlie discusses bringing back the Assist program with no dues increase. Charlie is always straight-forward and is a terrific asset to FMCA. Margie Rodgers, Betty Kirby. Betty Howard and Bob McNichols listen closely to Charlie Adcock’s discussion of upcoming plans for FMCA. Jeannine Fontaine, Ethel Sawyer and Nancy Miller are interested in things Charlie Adcock is saying. Can something be arranged – pool party, camping, picnic, or just getting together?? From your web master I am currently in the process of creating a new website for the SI community. It will consist of a Home page viewable to the public with a link to a downloadable membership application. The home page will also have a brief synopsis on who we are and what we are about. The home page may not be finished for some time but the Forum as explained below will be open. For members only, I am putting together what is know as a Bulletin Board, or Forum. This Forum will allow members to post and share thoughts and experiences with each other in an interactive way. When ready, if not already up, there will be a link on the home page that you can access the Forum . Registration is required in order to keep it open only to SI members. Please, when you register, put your own name under referrer, or use your email that you use on the SI member list so I can verify you are a member in good standing and approve registration. Your user name you chose on the board can be anything you want it to be. Rules for the forum: No Political conversation or threads will be allowed. No bashing/or flaming of other people will be tolerated. Anything else is fine. The idea is to play nice and have a nice place to play together :) We are all in this together. It should be a lot of fun. Scuttlebutt will be on the Forum for download as well as any information about current happenings, rallies, caravans etc...The forum should replace Escuttlebutt and make communication easier. I hope you enjoy the new format and hope to see you there soon. Bob Kelley FMCA RALLIES: Register with FMCA Great Lakes June 11-15 Goshen, IN Northeast Area July 17-21 Essex Junction,VT Midwest.
