GREEN JOBS PROGRAMME THE GREEN JOBS PROGRAMME BY DUBAI CARBON SNAP SHOT Research & Database Development Green Employment Facilitation Capacity Building PROJECT NUMBER PRJ-0055 OVERVIEW • Aligned with objectives of the UAE Vision 2021 • Create a Sustainable & Diversified Economy to Harness the Full Potential of National Human Capital • Related to the 2nd Pillar of the Green Economy for Sustainable Development to essentially focus on Green Jobs • The Programme is to be a reference platform for green jobs in the region • The Green Jobs Programme is 12 months long • In line with the Programme’s objectives, the Green Jobs Programme consists of three pillars, each with different activities underneath: Research & Database Development, Green Employment Facilitation & Capacity Building APPROACH • T he Programme is broken into three phases; o Phase 1: Initiation to Green Jobs o Phase 2: Understanding Green Jobs o Phase 3: Mastering Green Jobs • E ach phase has specific activities all come together to meet the key elements • D eliverables have been set for each phase to highlight the end products PROJECT STATUS Start Date: July 2014 Current Status: Ongoing Meet the Team: Rachel Bartz Mercedes Duran V2.0 GREEN JOBS PROGRAMME THE GREEN JOBS PROGRAMME BY DUBAI CARBON PROJECT OVERVIEW Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence has taken the lead in this endeavor creating a collaborative Green Jobs Programme. This will be an umbrella framework under which green jobs and education will be tackled in a number of initiatives conceived to achieve the following goals: • S hed light on green jobs and education for sustainable development • Create a data repository for green jobs • Connect the relevant stakeholders for green employment OUTCOME • Qualitative Research • Quantitative Research • Database Development • Green Jobs Group on LinkedIn • Company Presentations • Green Jobs Fair • Knowledge Sharing Platform • High Level Panel Discussions • Newsletter Given its collaborative nature, the Green Jobs Programme will involve key stakeholders in all of the initiatives: governmental institutions, educational providers, and industry and jobs seekers. PROJECT APPROACH The Programme is based on three pillars. Pillar 1 focuses on quantitative research on net green employment and qualitative research on occupations, skill needs and training provision in four different sectors relevant to the green economy (i.e. renewable energies, green building, waste management, and sustainable transport). This pillar also foresees a green jobs database development. Pillar 2 facilitates youth employment by creating a number of platforms to connect green job seekers and the industry using social media, public exhibitions and company presentations. Under Pillar 3, a knowledge sharing platform and a series of events will inform on best practices and the latest developments on green jobs at national and international levels. The Programme per se is a strong tool for capacity building on green jobs, stakeholder’s engagement on education for sustainable development and green employment facilitation.
