Wendy Chiles believes in the many gifts that dance can offer an individual. Beyond
the health benefits implicit in the physical training of the body, dance can
encourage self-awareness, and an awareness of the advantages that the arts offer
to society and the community at large. Creativity, self-expression, and sensitivity to
humanity are the essential elements that inspire her.
Wendy is one of the most established Graham technique teachers in Canada. She
has had a long association with the School of Toronto Dance Theatre. As one of the
core teachers in the Professional Training Program her teaching responsibilities
include techniques class, dance history and the Adult Contemporary Classes. She
has been invited to teach, choreograph and adjudicate throughout Canada.
Wendy began her dance training in Edmonton, studying ballet, flamenco, jazz, tap
and modern. Her post secondary studies earned her a B.F.A. in dance from York
University. She continued her studies of dance in New York, the UK and throughout
Canada. As a member of Toronto Dance Theatre she performed in the works of
Patricia Beatty, David Earle and Peter Randazzo.
Highlights of her career include: company member of Toronto Dance Theatre,
choreographer and rehearsal director for the Nylons and The Clichettes, guest
teacher for Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, Sheridan College, (U of T) Hart
House and many of the Performing Arts Schools in the greater Toronto Area.
Additionally, as part of the faculty at Unionville High School for the Performing Arts a
significant portion of her career was implementing and educating the students in
dance. More recently, she was an adjudicator for the UNESCO approved Korean
International Modern Dance Competition 2013, 2014, & 2015 and the 2015 Surrey
Dance Festival.

JAZZ
(No classes on August 6 & 7)
Dominique received her Teacher’s Certificate in classical dance from the Imperial
Society of Teachers of Dancing in 1980. She is a graduate of Canada’s National
Ballet School in Toronto, where she taught for four years before moving to Quebec to
get married. Initially a teacher at the Centre de danse Les Ballets Jazz where she
directed the Classical Dance division, she rose in 1985 to the position of Executive
Director and Director of Education at the Centre de danse de Québec, which
became l'École de danse de Québec in 1987. Under her leadership of 24 years, the
EDQ has developed to such an extent as to be recognized as one of the three top
Quebec institutions for advanced training in dance.
Growing her art is close to Dominique’s heart as well, and she has always been
involved in her community, as a member of several boards of directors and
professional committees at the regional, provincial and national level. Her
involvement in the development of dance has been recognized on several
occasions, including, in 2009, as recipient of the prestigious YWCA Women of
Distinction Award in the Arts and Culture category
Since the summer of 2011, she has worked as a free-lance dance teacher. As guest
teacher, she leads dance intensives, theme workshops and master classes for a
dozen organizations, including l'École supérieure de ballet du Québec and Ballet
Divertimento in Montreal, Quinte Ballet School of Canada in Belleville, and
DansEncorps in Moncton. She continues her involvement with RED, a dance
education network for which she co-developed a Classical Dance curriculum for
recreational clients in 2006.
