Less than a mile long, this little stretch of road Turtle Beach: 5 minute walk has a big reputation with revellers. The best idea (or 2 minute drive) is to start at one end and make your way down the street until you find one that suits your vibe – expect Crystal Cove: 20 minute drive to hear reggae, calypso, pop, rock, salsa, R&B and The House: 25 minute drive lots of live bands along the way, so if one place isn’t Tamarind: 25 minute drive your thing, just keep moving! Don’t forget to have a snack at one of the street-side food carts on the way Colony Club: 30 minute drive – just remember one rule: Barbados’ pepper sauce is to be treated with caution... Bars in The Gap start to get lively after everyone has had their evening meal, so around 8pm, and stay open ’til the wee small hours of the morning. The boardwalk has just been refurbished, so it really is the place to strut your stuff. ABSOLUT WATERING HOLE This rum shop is a great place to start a night out on The Gap. It’s a lively little place and popular with locals and visitors to Barbados. If karaoke is your thing, this is for you as they absolutely love it here and if you are too scared to sing, there is plenty of liquid courage on offer behind the bar. SUGAR ULTRA LOUNGE Sugar Ultra Lounge exudes cool. With chic lounges and stylish bars, this bar is a poser’s paradise. Sugar’s DJs play dance, reggae, calypso and club classics on one of the best sound systems on the island. Best Drink: It is an Absolut bar, so it would be rude not to. Elegant Tip: Sugar has a dress code, so don’t rock up in flip flops. Elegant Tip: Pick a song and belt it out, everyone will be supporting you. CAFE SOL It might seem a little odd to have a Mexican restaurant and cocktail bar in the liveliest street in Barbados, but then it pretty much sums up the eclectic tastes of The Gap. Best Drink: The best margaritas in Barbados and during happy hour they are 2 for 1. Elegant Tip: Pick a spot on the terrace as it is the best place for people watching overlooking St Lawrence Bay. WENDY’S SNACK BAR A no frills bar and a football fan’s paradise, Wendy’s has big screens and is football themed throughout. ST. JAMES Holetown is a small town with a big reputation. Back in the 1600s, this little town was the first settlement in Barbados and was where ships would offload their cargo. Nowadays it is where locals and visitors alike offload their cares in the two main roads, First and Second Street, which are filled with bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Friday and Saturday nights are the best, but if party action on the west coast is what you are after, then head to Holetown any night of the week and you are sure to find a good time. 20 minute drive DRIFT OCEAN TERRACE BAR A new face on the Holetown scene, Drift Ocean Terrace Lounge is effortlessly sophisticated and has a picture postcard setting overlooking the sea. With regular art exhibitions featuring local artists, Drift has a stylish and unpretentious atmosphere. Elegant Tip: On certain club nights (usually Wednesdays or Fridays) they do free shots all night. Best Drink: Drifting is one of the signature cocktails and combines tropical fruity flavours with prosecco, so is great for a sundowner. Elegant Tip: There are three happy hours: 1112noon, 2-3pm and 5-6pm. WATERFRONT CAFE Waterfront Cafe not only has a fantastic position overlooking the boats and the water, it also has nightly entertainment including jazz on Thursdays, steel pans on Fridays and soul on Saturdays. Best Drink: The speciality coffees are good and the Careenage Coffee has lots of Barbados rum, so is a definite winner. Elegant Tip: Live music starts early at 7.30pm. Elegant Tip: Sunset is the time to be there as the view is spectacular, but get there early so as not to miss out. SCARLET Not strictly in Holetown, but just a five minute taxi ride south, is the legendary Scarlet, a uber cool bar close to Tamarind, Daphne's and The House. This bar pops with colourful decor and trendy pop art on the walls, but the real show stoppers are the cocktails. Even the shooters are delicious. Crystal Cove: 10 minute drive LIME BAR To ‘lime’ means to ‘chill’, so the name of this bar gives you an idea of what you should be doing. It is in the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, so once you get your head around the fact that you are in a bar in a shopping mall, you should be all set to drink cocktails and enjoy the live entertainment. HARBOUR LIGHTS A place to drink, dance and be merry, it’s a little out of town, but worth the cab fare.
