Your creativity and hard work were appreciated by all! Thank you also to all the volunteers that helped with this event and congratulations to ALL the winners. Over the next few weeks you will likely see or hear promotions in the local media regarding our fall membership campaign. There is still plenty of great golf and social events at the club throughout this year. Please keep spreading the word about what a great Club you all have! Over the past few weeks we have contested the men and women’s Club Championships. Congratulations to all the winners and to the overall Champions: James Chrisman Men’s Club Champion Don Miller Senior Men’s Club Champion Hi Becker Super-Senior Men’s Club Champion Rosie Cook Women’s Club Champion Diane Browning Senior Women’s Club Champion Kathy Fleck Super Senior Women’s Club Champion The Glen Goes Global Tasting and Auction (Glen Gives) is fast approaching; September 15! It is amazing to think of all the money that has been raised since this event began for families and those in need in Central Oregon. Congratulations to all of you and the many dedicated people who put this event on each year. Thank you! September is a full month, with many member golf events, small golf groups, and hosting the Oregon Women’s Golf Association tournament. Please “look ahead” on Foretees to plan your golf this month. Heading into fall, this is an opportune time to still get in many rounds of golf, invite your friends out to play, and work on your game. Take care and we look forward to seeing you at the club soon! Mark Amberson From Our Course Superintendent From Our Membership Director S eptember has arrived at Awbrey Glen, which means it’s time to get in the last long days of the summer here at your Club. Whether your golf game is primed for more play, the kids still want to go to the pool, or you can’t get enough of the delicious food in the restaurant, Awbrey Glen Golf Club is here to provide you with lasting experiences. Thanks to all 70 of you who attended the New Member’s Reception this past August at the pool! It was great to see everyone get the chance to mingle and meet new couples and families while enjoying tasty hors d’ oeuvres hosted by Chef Darrin’s culinary team. As the fall golfing season is upon us, it is time to gear up for our Fall Membership Marketing Campaign. To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we are creating a very attractive membership offering this fall for prospective Journey Members. You as a referring Member will be well taken care of for your recruitment efforts. Don’t let a $300 referral credit pass you by. We want your friends, neighbors, and co-workers who are interested in mem- bership opportunities here at the Club to “Come take a Journey with us at Awbrey Glen!” It’s a membership offer that will be hard for them to refuse. Coming up in early October (Sunday, October 6) is the first of our Sunday “Fall to Spring” Family themed dinner/event nights. Open to all kids and adults, these themed events will include a selected game or event for the kids and a specific themed dinner selection that will rotate monthly. The event planned for October will be an Animated Movie Night for the kids. Be watching for upcoming emails this September highlighting the specifics of the evening. Stay in-tune with your club through our website, www.awbreyglen.com, and open club emails; we don’t want you to miss any upcoming golf or social event. We look forward to seeing you at the club this September. Keith Kessaris I would like to take a moment and talk about the aerification of the greens scheduled for September 10 and 11. For those of you unfamiliar with the process, a large machine is used to remove “cores” from the green surface. Removal of the cores reduces thatch, allows increased water penetration and gas exchange, and improves overall root zone soil structure. The holes are then filled with topdressing sand to smooth and firm up the surface. We will be utilizing ½" tines, which actually leave a 3/8" hole. By using a special attachment, more of the tines can be installed on the machine, allowing us to remove more material while leaving a smaller hole. The smaller the hole, the faster they will heal in! This is an essential part of agronomic practices and is crucial to the long term vitality of our greens. From The Restaurant H ow did it get to be September already? Our hot days and long nights are behind us, but we still have some gorgeous fall weather to enjoy our patio! Just remember that it is getting dark earlier so you’ll want to adjust your reservations so you aren’t eating in the dark. Our fire pits are starting to see a lot of use —what a great way to take the fall chill off! We have our next Music and Libations on Friday, September 21, featuring the band “Broken Down Guitars”. It’s a busy, fun night and we hope you’ll join us from 4 – 6 p.m. and then stay for dinner! July 2013 ACE Award Winner We are still looking for member recipes that we can try out and serve as some of our specials. If you or someone you know has a recipe that might be a good fit, just drop it by or email it to Darrin@ awbreyglen.com. Dennis Sienko’s recipe, Braised Duck with Asher Zinfandel, was a huge success last month. This special alone generated just under $400.00 of revenue for the club—way to go, Dennis! This was also very exciting for the kitchen and fun to prepare. Gail Moulton & Chef Darrin I hope you all will have the opportunity to enjoy some rounds this September, when the golfing weather is usually at its best! As always, feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have. W e are happy to announce July’s Awbrey Glen Golf Club ACE (Awbrey’s Circle of Excellence) award winner: Kathy Short has been working at Awbrey Glen since March of 2011 as our Administrative Assistant. The person who nominated Kathy wrote: “Kathy Short is an exemplary member of our Awbrey Glen Team. She is always cheerful and upbeat with a welcoming smile to greet members, guests and fellow employees. She has that “can do it” attitude and she really does “ do it” for all of us, going out of her way to help in whatever way she can. Giving 110% is nothing new to Kathy, but her dedication and hard work really stand out when she volunteers to help at member events. The Grand Opening of the 5th Hole is a perfect example—she spent the entire day moving tables, setting up and cleaning up, and even volunteered her husband as well!” Kathy consistently exemplifies the core values we expect from our staff here at Awbrey Glen. Thank you Kathy—we appreciate you and your “can do” attitude! Also receiving a nomination for the month of July was Jaron Barendse. Jaron was recognized for being very helpful, positive, and friendly with members and guests. Thank you, Jaron! Please help me in congratulating Kathy as the July ACE award winner!
