ANNUAL
REPORT
THE NASCAR FOUNDATION
THE NASCAR FOUNDATION
A LETTER FROM OUR CHAIRPERSON
Dear Friends,
MISSION: The NASCAR Foundation embodies the compassion of the NASCAR family
and our commitment to serving communities. The NASCAR Foundation will use
the strength of the sport and its people to make a difference in the lives
of those who need it most.
IMPACT: Since 2006, The NASCAR Foundation has saved more than 35,000 lives
through its national Blood & Marrow Drive, granted 275 NASCAR-themed wishes,
sent more than 500 kids to Victory Junction, recruited 9,256 fans to become
part of a Volunteer Network, and dedicated over $6.25 million in donations
and non-profit programming. United by The NASCAR Foundation, we are all
making a difference.
In 2008, The NASCAR Foundation continued to change lives in communities across the
country. As a result of the tremendous support that we received from NASCAR fans and our
corporate partners, we had some incredible accomplishments.
One of the highlights of the year was a new program in which every child who visits a
Speediatrics facility at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., or Homestead Hospital
in Homestead, Fla., receives a specially designed teddy bear. This is just one small step to
helping some of our youngest fans get through the difficult experience of a hospital visit.
We also welcomed country music star Garth Brooks as our 2008 NASCAR Day spokesperson.
It’s been amazing to see how NASCAR Day has grown from year to year, allowing fans of
all ages to participate and make a difference. In 2008, fans across the country gathered to
throw NASCAR Day parties at their schools, offices or organizations to show their support
for the sport they love. One of the many things we are able to do as a result of the funds
raised through NASCAR Day is support Victory Junction; The NASCAR Foundation was able to
send 220 kids to Victory Junction free of charge for an entire week of camp activities.

NASCAR DAY 2008
291,356
Celebrated in May, NASCAR Day is an
opportunity for fans, corporations, schools
and organizations across the country to
donate $5 to raise funds for The NASCAR
Foundation and its Family of Charities
in an effort to help thousands of children
live better lives.

Around here, a modest five-dollar donation goes a
long way. By partnering with a variety of charitable
organizations, The NASCAR Foundation is able to
positively affect communities across the country.
The following partner examples show how your
donor dollars are being put to work.
Through a program supported by The NASCAR
Foundation, every child who visits a Speediatrics
unit receives a teddy bear, specially designed by
Speediatrics founder and The NASCAR Foundation
Board Chairperson Betty Jane France. In 2008, The
NASCAR Foundation contributed $375,000 to the
Speediatrics units to help fund critical medical
equipment for children in need, which helped treat
19,930 children at both Speediatrics units in Daytona
Beach and Homestead, Florida.

Collin’s Story
Imagine a place where special doesn’t mean different, but it
truly means special. A place where annually more than 2,000
kids get to come and test the limits of their imagination – a
place where anything is possible.
In 2005, Collin’s family visited Victory Junction
for the first time. The camp provided a place
for Collin to go and get the same camp experience
as all of his friends and gain a sense of normalcy.
Collin McCord describes Victory Junction as “paradise.” Collin
is one of the many kids who attend the camp year after year
to meet new friends and have an experience of a lifetime.
Since that first experience, the McCord family has
continued to be blown away. “It’s truly one of those
places that is magical. What it gives these children
– an immense feeling of normalcy and happiness –
cannot be valued. To be normal and accepted and
special… to truly be special is amazing,” said Kristi,
Collin’s mother.
In October, Collin celebrated 10 years of being
cancer free.
In 1997, when Collin was 15 months old, he was diagnosed
with T-Cell Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). A mere five
months later, Collin’s family got devastating news. The cancer
had spread to his brain, and Collin began an intense
radiation treatment.
Within 24 hours of Collin’s initial diagnosis, his mother Kristi,
found out she was pregnant with her second child. Five months
after the birth of Collin’s little brother Kristopher, Collin relapsed
and was given a 20% chance of survival. Thankfully, Collin was
able to receive a life-saving bone marrow transplant from his
younger brother’s banked supply.
As Collin got older, several of his classmates at school started
attending sport and outdoor recreational camps. Due to
physical limitations that resulted from the chemo and radiation
treatments at such a young age, Collin was unable to attend
camps like many of his friends.
Building Playgrounds
Elon Children’s Home went 100 years without a
playground before The NASCAR Foundation built one
in a single day in celebration of NASCAR Day.
Thank you to all the fans and corporate partners who
supported NASCAR Day and helped send kids like
Collin to camp.
A total of 220 kids were able to attend Victory
Junction free of charge as a result of contributions
($550,000 total) made by The NASCAR Foundation.

Instilling Values Through Sports
Last year, NASCAR CEO
Brian France, along with
Kyle Petty and other
representatives from
NASCAR and The NASCAR
Foundation, traveled to
Columbia with Juan and
Connie Montoya to tour a Formula Smiles facility.
The group got to witness first hand the great
work that Juan and Connie are doing with their
foundation. Through sport, they are bringing hope into
the lives of Colombian children. During the trip, The
NASCAR Foundation presented Juan and Connie with a
$25,000 check for Formula Smiles.
Making Wishes Come True
Last year, The NASCAR Foundation helped grant 80 wishes
by providing once in a lifetime NASCAR experiences to
children with life threatening illnesses. The Foundation
also donated $48,000 to various wish organizations to
make even more dreams come true. In April, The NASCAR
Foundation helped Jeff Gordon celebrate surpassing the
200th wish mark with the Make A Wish® Foundation.
Gordon says he grants kids’ heartfelt wishes nearly every
weekend during the race season because of the profound
effect these kids have on his life.

Animal Welfare Contributions
The NASCAR Foundation Partners for Paws Spectacular
was held on February 11th at Daytona International
Speedway to benefit the Greg Biffle Foundation,
Ryan Newman Foundation and Halifax Humane
Society of Daytona Beach. Biffle, Newman and
Mike Skinner hosted the live and silent auction
event that raised funds for their favorite animal
welfare groups. Through contributions made
in 2008 to animal welfare and rescue groups,
The NASCAR Foundation helped save and ready
for adoption 333 animals.
Educational Initiatives
As part of The NASCAR Foundation’s ongoing focus
on education, donations of $200,000 were given to
support educational causes in local track markets,
including a $90,000 scholarship fund in honor
of Brienne Davis for women seeking an
automotive technical education.
Davis, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Official, passed away in 2008
at age 28. In the fall, dozens
of NASCAR Officials came
together and held the 1st
Official Jail & Bail
fundraiser for the fund.
