Not a week goes by without news about the Museum on television, radio, in the paper or on the web, yet visitors still tell us their #1 reason for that first trip is they heard raves from a friend. Bring us together with the people you know - today, before it sinks to the bottom of the to-do list. They’ll appreciate it, and so will we. Lois Davis and Tamar Maltz [below] at the Volunteer Appreciation event with more than 100 guests including, from left to right - Howard Friedman, Pat Friedman, Eileen Hoicowitz, Mort Hoicowitz, Jean Dreifort, Rose Meyeroff and Ernie Myeroff. In its inaugural outing, the Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out! Essay Contest took the region by storm. With 1,200 essays submitted from a seven county region (Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Summit, Medina, Lorain and Portage), the contest made an impact on thousands of students and their teachers and parents. Entrants pondered questions of discrimination and hate, thought about actions to combat them, participated in classroom discussions on intolerance and visited the Museum to learn about what can happen when hate is left unchecked. The contest has begun its second year with meetings throughout the summer with school superintendents and principals; we expect thousands more to participate this year. Once again, we will award up to $100,000 in scholarships and prizes! Teachers: submit an online request to have someone speak at your school, schedule a Museum visit for your class, obtain materials or ask questions. Students, read last year’s winning entries online to inspire you as you begin your own entry this year. Interested in learning more? Visit www.maltzmuseum.org for complete contest guidelines and entry information.
