In 2003, SOURCENEXT placed
the “commoditizing” strategy
into effect for bringing PC software closer to people. All core
products were priced at 1,980
yen under the label, “Soft Price
1,980 Yen.”Furthermore, the“Slim
Package”, which is the same
size as DVD packages, was introduced and new distribution
channels such as bookstores, supermarkets, home improvement
stores, and convenience stores
were opened. As a result, No.1
in unit sales shares for PC software was obtained in 2003. With
such activities given recognition,
the“2003 Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards Nikkei Marketing Journal Awards
for Superiority”was awarded.
2004 saw the penetration of the
1,980 Yen series into the market
with a new brand name,“ Quality
1980”. Along with the expansion of the lineup of high-quality
products is the growing popularity and penetration of the“Slim
Package”into the market. The
Slim Package consists of only
1/2 the area and 1/5 the volume
of conventional paper packages
up to now. It makes the products
much easier for the customers
to take home and has the advantage of being easy store. Furthermore, it allows retailers to have
