About Us
Grating FRP Australia was established in 2002 by Warren Blay
and was formed to supply and service local industry with
quality products with standards of excellence.
Warren Blay
Warren has been in the Mining industry for over 18 Years based as
a Mechanical Fitter 1st Class Machinist then currently completing a
certificate in Mechanical Engineering.
Warren moved into a Supervisor’s role and Managed for three years
and moved to New Zealand to Manage BHP New Zealand Steel
Conveyor Maintenance contract. Returning to Perth Warren has been
involved in several major projects such as the construction of HIY Yandi
Conveyor systems for Flour Daniels and Yandi One and Two Mines.
Ken Johnston
Ken has over 33 years of experience in the timber and construction
industry from grassroots level to middle management both in Australia
and New Zealand
Combined with retail and wholesale experience he is able to provide
a wealth of knowledge to Grating FRP Australia and its business

steel, frp Grating has “memory”, and will spring back to its

comfortably lift a 1220x3660mm panel of Grating FRP Australia
fiberglass grating. With an average weight of around 15 to 20 kilos
per square meter, Grating FRP Australia fiberglass grating is easy to
carry and install. It’s also easy to remove for maintenance access
or cleaning underneath. Simply unscrew the clips and lift out. No
special lifting equipment required !

Slip and fall accidents are the single most expensive and
common type of industrial accident. Choose Grating FRP
Australia with either silica grit top or all resin meniscus top, and
regain sure footing in slippery work area. water, oils, detergents

fiberglass grating, stair treads, stair covers and floor plate.
FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION
Grating FRP Australia fiberglass grating products are easily
cut with standard power tools, using masonry or diamond
embedded blades. We recommend using a worm gear
driven circular saw, but standard tools can be used for most
cutting. And there is no steel cutting, banding or welding,
which require specialized tools and often require facility
permits. Fiberglass grating is lightweight and easy to handle,
requiring no special lifting or installation equipment.

RESINS
Grating FRP Australia offers a variety of resin choices to meet your corrosion control needs. For more information on what resin
might work best in your application, please consult the chemical resistance chart on page 34, or call for additional help.
Type VEF·25 is a premium Vinyl ester resin with a flame spread rating of 25 or less. Type VEFR-25 resin provides the most chemical
resistant molded product offered in the industry. Designed to withstand the harshest chemical environments over a broad range
of acids and caustics, it is primarily used in petrochemical, waste water, mining, and plating applications where the grating is
subject to frequent and direct contact with harsh chemicals. Type VEFR-l0 is manufactured with the same high quality vinyl ester
resin but with an enhanced flame spread rating of 10 or less for those applications requiring more flame resistance, such as an
offshore platform. The standard color for the VEFR-25 is orange, and the standard color for the VEFR-l0 is dark gray.
Type IFR-25 is a premium isophthalic polyester resin with a flame spread rating of 25 or less. Type IFR-25 provides an intermediate
level of chemical resistance and is the correct resin choice for grating subjected to splash and spill contact with harsh chemicals,
and is a very good general purpose resin at a reduced cost compared to the premium vinyl ester resin. Type IFR-l0 is the same
high quality isophthalic polyester resin but with an enhanced flame spread rating of 10. The standard color for the IFR-25 is green
and the IFR-l0 grating is dark gray.
Type FG-30 is Grating FRP Australia molded grating manufactured using a premium food grade polyester resin containing no
harmful ingredients and is certified by the resin manufacturer. Each panel is post cured and detergent washed prior to shipping.
This grating possesses a flame spread rating of 30 and the standard color is light gray.
Type CFR-25 is an orthophthalic polyester resin with a flame spread rating of 25 or less providing moderate chemical resistance.
Grating FRP Australia Type CFR-25 is perfect for use in water/waste water applications, light industrial applications, and in the
wave zone areas of offshore platforms where the environment is moderate. Although Type CFR-25 is the least chemical resistant
resin, it still offers superior performance 10 traditional flooring products such as steel, aluminum and wood, and is the most
economical resin available. The standard colors for the CFR-25 gratings are yellow and dark gray. Type CFR~10, an orthophthalic
polyester resin with an flame spread rating of 10 is available upon request.

Type MP-5 is Grating FRP Australia molded phenolic grating where fire resistance, low smoke, and low toxic fumes are critical.
Tested in accordance with ASTM E-84, Type MP-S resin has a flame spread rating of 5 and smoke density rating of 5. Our Type MP-5
molded phenolic grating is typically used in confined spaces, subways, offshore and other applications where fire resistance
and low smoke generation is absolutely necessary. The standard color in which the Type MP-5 is available is chocolate brown;
however, phenolic painting of the grating can be performed to obtain a light gray finish.
Conductive Top Grating: All of Grating FRP Australia molded grating products can be provided with a specially formulated carbon
black surface, eliminating hazardous static electricity when properly grounded. Available with all of the above resins, Grating
FRP Australia conductive gratings are primarily used in the high-tech electronic industries, munitions and arsenal manufacturing
plants and other sparking sensitive environments where sophisticated equipment may be damaged due to static electricity. The
surface electric resistance of Grating FRP Australia conductive grating is 1xl 05 ohms to 5xl05 ohms. For grounding requirements,

Special resins are available upon request. Various resin formulas can be offered to meet different flame spread ratings,
temperature ranges, and corrosion resistances.

SURFACES
Slip/fall accidents are one of the greatest dangers in an industrial environment, costing employers both time and money.
Grating FRP Australia offers a wide variety of anti-slip surfaces to help eliminate this danger.
Embedded grit: Grit is added to the mold after the grating has been laid but not cured. Grit and resin are forced into the top of
the grating and allowed to cure with the grating. A clean, durable grit surface.
Post~cure grit: after the grating is cured and removed from the mold, grit is applied to the top of the grating with a strong
adhesive. The grit surface is heat-cured with an additional top coat of adhesive for a maximum bond.
Meniscus: no grit is added to the surface after the grating is removed from the mold. A natural anti~slip meniscus surface is
formed during the curing process.
Concave
COLORS
An assortment of standard colors are available, including green, yellow,
orange, light gray, gray and dark gray. Special colors include red, and other
shades of green. Custom colors are available for special order. Please call
for color and grit samples.
INSTALLATION ACCESSORIES
Grating FRP Australia offers a variety of holddown clips to help secure our grating to structural supports.
Each clip is specifically designed for our grating and plate products. All clips are made of 316SS for
maximum corrosion resistance.
Installation-whenever is possible, provide for a minimum of 40mm bearing support at all grating supports. Holddown clips should
be used at the rate of one clip for every 0.6 square meters of grating minimum, or at least 4 clips for any square or rectangular
piece, or at least 3 for a triangular piece.

Grating FRP Australia fiberglass stair treads combine the unique features

of fiberglass grating with an easy-to fabricate panel. Waste is virtually

panels meet the 15mm ball test for floorings, a European safety requirement
commonly used in some sectors of the offshore industry.
WE HAVE TWO STANDARD PANEL SIZES:
Option 1, 38mm thick, 580mm wide by 3660mm long with tread nosing
on each side of the panel, allowing treads to be cut from both sides.
Standard mesh is 38mmx152mm
Option 2, 38mm thick, 5B5mm wide by 3050mm long with tread nosing
on each side of the panel, allowing treads to be cut from both sides.
Standard mesh is 25mmx152mm
All Grating FRP Australia fiberglass stair treads utilize a gritted nosing for
added slip- resistance. This nosing contrasts with the color of the stair tread,
increasing visibility and reducing slip/fall accidents.

STAIR TREAD COVERS
Grating FRP Australia fiberglass stair tread covers provide an excellent alternative to stair tread replacement, combining
slip -resistance with corrosion resistance. Simply place the pre-molded cover over existing stairs and secure using
Grating FRP Australia’s W-clip. It is quick, easy and instantly transforms worn out or damaged stair treads.
The aluminum oxide grit surface provides an extremely slip-resistant stair tread, even when wet or oily, for maximum
safety. The integral yellow nosing allows for higher visibility, reducing trip hazards and improving OSHA compliance,
all done with a minimum investment
The standard panel size for stair tread covers is 345mm deep by 3660mm long. Simply trim the panel to the desired
depth and cut to the correct width. Plus, Grating FRP Australia stair tread covers can be pre-fabricated to any depth
and width, ready-to-install from the factory!
Grating FRP Australia stair tread covers should be installed using mechanical fasteners to insure a positive connection
to the tread underneath. Low profile head fasteners and washer style clips(W-clips) are available in 316SS for
installation.

COVERED GRATING
Grating FRP Australia covered grating is a one-piece molded grating,
combing the solid surface of plate and the structural support of molded
grating. Covered grating is available in a variety of thickness, ranging
from 25mm to 54mm. Grit top surface is standard on all covered
grating products, creating a safe walking surface. Chequered plate
gratings are welcome too.
Covered grating is ideal for applications what require no permeation
of the grating. Whether over a food process or for reducing fumes
and odors, covered grating meets the needs for solid surface decking
that is both corrosion resistant and slip resistant. It is also used in areas
where cart wheels or shoe heels might otherwise have difficulty over
standard open mesh grating.
Covered grating is available in the same resin systems as our standard
grating as well as colors. Custom resin and colors are available for
special orders.

FIBERGLASS PLATE
GRATING FRP AUSTRALIA PULTRUDED GRATING
Fiberglass plate is made by laminating sheets of fiberglass woven with Grating FRP Australia’s high quality resin system. Grit top
surface is standard on all plate products, providing an excellent anti-slip walking surface, Chequered surface is available too.
Fiberglass plate is also lightweight and easy to cut, making installation easy and inexpensive.
Grating FRP Australia pu1truded grating is manufactured with every
panel of grating subjected to a sequence of quality assurance
inspections ensuring complete sealing of all joints, full wet-out of
the glass ravings, consistent resin-to-glass ratios, and consistent
non-skid features.
Fiberglass plate is available in the same resins and colors as our standard grating products. Other colors, resins, custom thickness,
and panel sizes are available for special order.
Both Grating FRP Australia’s fiberglass plate and covered grating should be installed using mechanical fasteners. Grating FRP
Australia’s W-clip provides a solid anchor point. While eliminating tripping hazards associated with higher profile fasteners.
Grating FRP Australia Pultruded grating is lightweight, strong,
chemical and UV resistant, and reduces costly maintenance.
Grating FRP Australia pultruded grating is particularly well suited for
highly corrosive environments and offers extended life, eliminating
periodic maintenance and replacement costs, thus making
Grating FRP Australia pultruded gratings the preferred alternative
to conventional steel gratings.
Higher Stiffness
Grating FRP Australia pultruded grating possesses approximately 65% glass and 35% resin content by weight, giving it a very
high strength to weight ratio. Load bearing bar capacity can be tailored to the application by modifying the glass content, fiber
orientation, and combination of mat and roving reinforcement.
Chemical Resistance
Grating FRP Australia pultruded gratings offer superb chemical resistance to variety of acids and caustics. Grating FRP Australia
pultruded grating is offered in an array of corrosion resistant resins designed for any environment, from light or moderately
corrosive environments to extremely corrosive applications. Grating FRP Australia pultruded grating is offered in either premium
Isophthalic polyester, vinyl ester, or phenolic resins.
LightWeight
Grating FRP Australia Pultruded Grating weight much less than comparable steel gratings-as much as 50%-75% weight savings
can be realized depending on the bearing bar configuration. For weight sensitive structures, such as a tension-leg platform
for an offshore deepwater facility, the use of Grating FRP Australia pultruded grating offers significant weight savings, thereby
reducing the overall cost of the project.
UV resistance
All Grating FRP Australia pultruded gratings are manufactured with resins containing UV inhibitors. UV resistance is enhanced with
the use of a synthetic surfacing veil, creating a “resin rich” surface, and further strengthening Grating FRP Australia pultruded
grating resistance to UV attack.
Impact Resistance
Grating FRP Australia Pultruded Gratings offer better impact resistance than conventional steel gratings.
Fire Retardancy
All Grating FRP Australia pultruded gratings are designed to exhibit a flame spread rating of 25 or less test in accordance with
ASTM E-84 tunnel test, and meet the self-extinguishing requirements of ASTM D-635. A variety of resins are available offering an
array of flame spread ratings and smoke densities.

Grating FRP Australia pultruded grating is both thermally and electrically non-conductive, two features that make it a desirable
product in many applications such as those involving electrical and fire hazards. The thermal non-conductivity feature of Grating
FRP Australia pullruded grating protects individuals from the head radiation that occurs on traditional steel grating during firesfirefighters can gel and stay closer to the fire source for linger periods of time.

Grating FRP Australia resin designations are comprised of two components: the resin type and it ASTM E-84 flame spread
rating.
Grating FRP Australia pultruded grating VEFR·25 is a premium vinyl ester resin with a flame spread rating of 25 or less. VEFR·25
pultruded grating is our most chemical resistant resin. Designed to withstand the harshest chemical environments over a broad
range of acids and caustics, it is primarily used in petrochemical, wastewater, mining, and plating applications where the

FIELD FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION OF GRATING FRP AUSTRALIA MOLDED AND PULTRUDED GRATING
Safety Precuations-when cutting Grating FRP Australia grating, always wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes and
always wear a dust mask to reduce dust inhalation. Always wear gloves and it is recommended that a shop coat with neck and
tapered sleeves be worn to prevent skin irritation. Work in well-lighted and ventilated area. Always read the MSDS (material safety
data sheet) before cutting and sealing Grating FRP Australia grating. Always provide firm support of the grating panels to prevent
shifting and the use of sawhorses and other supports will help to prevent common back injuries. Cutting Grating FRP Australia
grating will produce dust- this dust in non-carcinogenic but may cause some skin irritation.
Cutting Grating FRP Australia grating- Depending on the amount( linear meter) of grating to be cut, and the type of cutting
required, i.e., straight cuts or circular cuts, a variety of field and shop tools can be used such as an abrasive coated metal blade,
or a standard bimetal blade or a hacksaw with a blade with a similar tooth pattern as the bimetal blade.

*The blade should be an abrasive continuous rim cut-off blade normally used on masonry or ceramic products (silica gritted or
diamond coated blades)
For making small radius circular cuts, a reciprocating saw with the same blade specifications above is recommended.
For making larger radius circular cuts, a circular saw can be used using the blade specifications sated above.
Remember that the width of the saw blades will remove about 3mm of grating with each cut, so be sure to allow for this when
measuring and laying out your marks on the grating panel.
Always use sandpaper or a sanding wheel to smooth out all cut edges before seating and ALL CUT EDGES MUST BE SEALED.
For this, Grating FRP Australia sealing kits to effectively seal cut surfaces of fiberglass products to protect the glass fibers from
environmental attack.

STRUCTURAL SHAPES
Grating FRP Australia offers a wide selection of structural shapes to
complement our line of fiberglass grating. Fiberglass structural shapes
have one of the highest strength-la-weight ratios of any structural product,
as well as superior corrosion resistance.
Fiberglass structural shapes are manufactured using the pultrusion process.
Glass mat and roving are drawn through a resin bath and pulled through
a heated die to form the desired shape. This process can yield almost any
profile shape commonly used in structural construction.
Fiberglass structural shapes are dimensionally stable, 85 well as thermally and electrically non-conductive. Being easy to fabricate
as well as lightweight, fiberglass structural shapes are also easy 10 install, reducing costs associated with special lift equipment
and tools.
Grating FRP Australia structural shapes are available in a wide variety of shapes, including I beam, equal angle, channel, square
tube, and round tube, concrete embedment angle is also available in a variety of sizes for use in areas where traditional metal
embedment angle may corrode prematurely.
Fiberglass structural shapes are available in two main resins: VEFR-25, a vinyl ester resin with superior corrosion properties, IFR-25,
a premium polyester resin. Both resins have a standard flame spread rating of 25 or less as per
ASTM E-84. Special resins are available upon request.

GRATING FRP AUSTRALIA SAFETY LADDER SYSTEM
Designed for easy installation and fabrication, Grating FRP Australia meets
or exceeds OSHA requirements with durable construction and
corrosion-resistant materials.
Advantages
Grating FRP Australia systems are one-third weight of steel and require less
maintenance and upkeep. That’s because they’re manufactured with the
optimal combination of fiberglass ravings and isophtalic polyester or vinyl
ester resins, ensuring a long, corrosion·free life.
Grating FRP Australia has engineered two basic ladder systems. Our
standard fiberglass ladder offers the necessary rigidity and safety when
structural stand-off supports are capable of being provided at regular and
close intervals. However, in some cased, stand off supports can not be
provided at regular intervals, thus requiring the ladder to span much longer
distance. In order to comply with OSHA standards for ladder safety and
design, Grating FRP Australia offers stiffened ladder to meet these needs.
All Grating FRP Australia Ladders are designed for ease fabrication and
installation, while offering the maximum corrosion resistance.
DESIGN.STANDARD
Grating FRP Australia meet the following min requirement of OSHA code, Section 1910.27:
Min design live load shalt be a single concentrated load of 300kgs.
Distance between rungs shall not exceed 300mm
Min. Distance between side rails shall be min 400mm.
The safety cage is required on ladders of more than 6m to a maximum unbroken length of 9m.
The safety cage to extend minimum of 1050mm above top of lading.
The safety cage to begin minimum 2100mm to maximum 2400mm above base of ladder(f1oor)
The safety cage shall not extend less than 675mm or more than 700mm from the centerline of the rungs of the ladder.
Cage shall not be less than 675mm in width.
The distance between hoop cages shall be max 850mm.
The wall mounting brackets shall be spaces at max.1800mm.
Vertical bars shall be located at a maximum spacing of 40 degrees around circumference of the cage, this will give a maximum
spacing of approximately 238mm center to center.
In certain location, where safety is a major concern, our safety cage shall have a fiberglass net manufactured by pultrusion
process instead of vertical bars, average thickness 3mm fixed on the FRP cage hoops, to provide extra safety for workers.
