Staff Meeting PowerPoint 8-28-15
Welcome
“If there is not a big kid living inside of you,
there is not a great teacher coming out of
you.” -anonymous
As you start the year.. consider..
What kind of teacher are you?
What do you want to be known for?
What do you want your students to be known for?
What do you want your students to be able to do at the end of the year?
What skills do they need to develop for success?
What discussions do they need to have to cultivate new ideas?

Ben Butts
Ben has been hired as the new Technology Education/Industrial Arts teacher at
Flathead High School. He is a 2011 graduate of Glacier High School, but attended
Flathead for most of his high school years. Ben completed his teaching degree at
Montana State University this spring. While at MSU he majored in Technology
Education (5-12 Instruction). In his spare time Ben enjoys hunting, fishing, and
spending time with his family and friends. He is very excited to be back in the
Flathead Valley! It's going to be a great year! Go Braves!!
Michele Mussman
Michele has been hired to be part of the Family and Consumer Science Department.
She moved to the Flathead in late June of this year. Michele is a graduate of Idaho
State University and Whitworth University. While at ISU, she majored in Family
and Consumer Science and minored in Economics and completed her Masters in
Teaching at Whitworth. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling to Hamilton to play
with her two grandsons and their parents, cooking, knitting, spinning yarn, hiking
with her husband and learning SUP board. She is so glad to be back out west in
Montana and is really excited to be part of the Flathead High School Community!
Carla Martin
Carla is thrilled to be joining the Special Education Department at FHS! She is a
2015 graduate of Western Governors University, having earned a degree in Special
Education. Carla completed a portion of her student teaching at Glacier High
School. This is her first year teaching and she is so grateful to be starting out in such
a great district and at such a fabulous school! Aside from her interest in education,
Carla enjoys reading, snowshoeing, cooking, exploring new places, and hanging out
with her husband and their three children.
Cody Hoon
Cody has been hired as the part time Art Teacher at Flathead High
School. He was born and raised in Whitefish, and is a Flathead
Valley Community College and University of Montana graduate.
Cody’s major is in Art Education K-12. He is an avid Skier, a
lover of film and hockey, and an enthusiastic new teacher. Cody
considers it a blessing to be able to teacher here in the valley and
looks forward to the beginning of what he expects will be a long
and exciting career.
Dock Blastic
Dock’s lifelong learning experience has lead to Special Education. He feels his greatest
strengths are listening and cheerleading. Dock has spent a combined 15 years in Alaska
and the Portland area and likes sharing stories. He loves to kayak and disk golf. If anyone
would like to go on an adventure, let's roll. Western Montana has been his family's home
for seven generations and dock looks forward to getting to know the students, staff and
community of Kalispell.
Anthony (Mark) Quinn
Antony is one of our new Student Monitors at Flathead High School. He went to school at Northlake College in Irving, TX majoring in
psychology and criminal justice. Most of his career has been in private security, where for almost 10 years he worked as an instructor in
a variety of topics. A few years ago Anthony decided to make a career change and begin working with kids. In 2012 he went to work for
the Texas Juvenile Justice Department as a Correctional Officer. It did not take long for him to realize that he needed to take a more
proactive approach, so in 2014 he became a Campus Auxiliary Officer for Nimitz High School in Irving Tx. A few months into the
school year Anthony was given an opportunity to move into a para professional role as an ISS teacher. As much he loved his job, he and
his wife decided during the summer break to put our dreams into action and move to Montana. Their plans were quickly solidified
when Anthony was given the opportunity to work at Flathead High. He is super excited to start the school year and meeting all you!
Marti Paugh
Marti is so excited about teaching at FHS. She received her undergraduate degree from
Carroll College in 2007 in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and a
double minor in Public Relations and Communications. She also received her M.Ed in
Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Montana in 2011 and has thoroughly
enjoyed teaching high school business ever since. You can usually find Marti enjoying
the mountains, rivers and lakes of the Flathead Valley but this fall she and her husband are
expecting their first child! They are over the moon to welcome him or her to the world
and she will be back in the classroom after maternity leave!
Mary Gustafson
Mary was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and ended up in the Flathead Valley in 2006. She was employed at the Admin Bldg. as
the Substitute Coordinator and K-5 Enrollment clerk for 5 years. She returned to Ohio and San Diego for a few years but always
missed Montana and knew she would come back someday. Mary is so happy to be here at Flathead High School; you will find her
sitting at the window in the main office.
Mary has three daughters and 3 grandchildren; one just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio with two grandsons, one in San Diego with a
granddaughter and one in Ireland that is working on all of the above. She has great vacation spots to visit!
In her spare time Mary loves to ride her four wheeler, kayak, hike, garden, and socialize with friends. In the fall, she will enjoy
watching the Pittsburgh Steelers (go Big Ben!), the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Griz games and of course the Flathead Braves!
Matt Upham
Matt is our new Math teacher at Flathead High School. He is originally from Helena
where he graduated from Helena High School. Matt went on to pursue his education at
Carroll College, majoring in Math for Secondary Education. He couldn't be more
excited to be in Kalispell and a part of Flathead High and is looking forward to a great
school year.

Staff Survey
“Although time seems to fly by, it never travels faster than one day at a
time. Each day is a new opportunity to live your life to the fullest. Take the
opportunity to do unanticipated good. Dare to exhaust yourself with all the
opportunities the day offers. Be driven with purpose. Work towards your
dream. Be relentless in your alignment with excellence. Embrace
gratitude. Rise to the level of your true greatness. At the end of the day, rest
your head on the pillow of a day well-lived and a life well-ventured. ”
-Steve Maraboli
