from the stage and have a meal or just a cup
of coffee at any of the various restaurants and
cafes in the event area.
Skeppsholmen
At the end of June every year, sailing yachts
take over the central parts of the famous
Stockholm waterfront when The Royal Swedish Yacht Club, KSSS arrange the ÅF Offshore
Race – Round Gotland Race.
The start of ÅF Offshore Race is a great fiesta
already from June 30th until the race actually
starts three days later. The race area is open
from early lunchtime until close to midnight
during a time when the sun hardly ever sets in
Stockholm.
Starting the race in the middle of Stockholm
has been a huge success. In the summer of
2015 more than 150 000 spectators followed
the boats as they left the city.
Royal Swedish Yacht Club
The Royal Swedish Yacht Club, KSSS, has a long
tradition of organizing international regattas
and offshore races. For more than a century,
Sandhamn has been Sweden’s epicenter in
sailing and ÅF Offshore Race - Round Gotland
Race started here back in 1937.

At the event area on Skeppsholmen island,
opposite the Royal Castle and the Old Town of
Stockholm, friends and visitors are invited to
take a closer look at the boats moored at the
temporary pontoons, along the tall ship ”Af
Chapman”. Visitors can also enjoy live music

The history of the race
”Visbyseglingen” is renowned for being the
model/prototype for the Round Gotland Race.
“Visbyseglingen” was organized by KSSS from
around 1920 and the race grew into the first
official Round Gotland Race which was sailed
in 1937. 42 yachts from Sweden, England, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and United
States participated.
tors and the course design have changed over
the years.
The latest innovation was made in 2011-2012
when the start was moved from Sandhamn
to Skeppsholmen in the heart of Stockholm.
At the same time the regatta was renamed
ÅF Offshore Race after the title sponsor ÅF.
ÅF Offshore Race and ÅF Offshore Race Classic gathered 211 yachts at the start in 2015.
The 350 nautical mile course, starting in the
city of Stockholm and finishing in Sandhamn,
takes the competitors through the breathtaking beauty of the Stockholm archipelago
and out to the open sea around the island of
Gotland.

The competing yachts started in Sandhamn,
rounded the island of Gotland and finished
outside Visby, the main city of Gotland. Since
then, the Round Gotland Race has regularly
attracted both the keenest yacht racers from
all around the world, as well as a wide variety
of regular cruising sailors. Both the competi-

ÅF Offshore Race 2016 – Round Gotland Race
KSSS welcomes you and your
crew to Stockholm and to the
ÅF Offshore Race 2016 and ÅF
Offshore Race Classic 2016. The
race is open to yachts with valid
rating certificates in ORC International or the Swedish Rating
System SRS. The mix of modern
and classic yachts makes the regatta spectacular and the fact
that the starting area is located
in the very center of Stockholm
makes the regatta quite remarkable.
At the start the competitors
are split into starting groups
of 15-25 yachts in order to ensure all competitors fair starting conditions. The race starts
on Sunday, July 3 in the center
of Stockholm and runs through
the KUNGSTRÄDGÅRDEN
archipelago via Sandhamn
and rounds the island of Got-
land. The race finishes in Sandhamn where the prize giving
ceremony and regatta dinner is
planned for Wednesday July 6.
ÅF Offshore Race Classic is sailed parallel to the ÅF Offshore
Race but using a different course design. Classic Yachts are invited to race from Stockholm
via Sandhamn to a buoy outside
the city of Visby and directly
back to the finish in Sandhamn,
a course of approximate 250
nautical miles. The race starts
on Sunday, July 3.
Classic Yachts are defined as
boats built before 1st of January 1968 and remaining mainly
consistent to her original plans
and has a hull made of wood
or steel. Alternatively a replica
built anytime, which is built in
conformity with, or is a copy of
an existing boat, or according to
an original one-off design prior
to 1st of January 1968. It is the
Race Committee´s prerogative
to decide if a boat is allowed to
enter as a Classic Yacht or not.
KSSS would also like to invite
you and your crew to take part
in the ÅF Inshore Race 2016.
This race starts on Saturday
July 2, the day before the start
of the ÅF Offshore Race 2016.
The ÅF Inshore Race 2016 is
sailed on an approximately
20 nautical mile course in the
heart of Stockholm. The start
and finish of the ÅF Inshore
Race is next to the race village
on Skeppsholmen Island. The
race is open to all boats with a
Swedish Rating System (SRS)
certificate.

Sail ÅF Offshore Race with a charter boat!
Many people around the world dream of sailing
ÅF Offshore Race round Gotland. But they may not
have a boat or live so far away that the obstacles
become too great. The solution could be to rent
a boat that is already in place in the Stockholm
archipelago.
KSSS aim in this project is to give the opportunity
to as many people as possible to experience this
fantastic regatta. Above all, we see the possibility
for foreign crews to participate.
Some boats will be rented out ”naked” while
others might only be rented together with a
skipper/owner. The contact however is directly
between the boat owners and the sailors/rental
person. KSSS only role is to act as a mediator of
contact. Read more on www.ksss.se
With this new service KSSS, The Royal Swedish
Yacht Club, would want to connect sailors
wanting to rent a boat with individuals and
companies alike who have boats to rent.
