Everest, the Wildest Dream ! Leo Houlding and Kenton Cool! ! The Law Society, London! Wednesday October 8th 2014! ! ! In the 90th anniversary year of the disappearance of Mallory and Irvine, the trustees of the Mountain Heritage Trust invite you to an evening exploring the myth, history and dreams of Everest.! ! The renowned young mountaineers Kenton Cool and Leo Houlding will lecture on their fascinating experiences on the mountain, bringing characters of Everest history to life on film, and fulfilling an Olympian’s dream on its summit.! ! A three course dinner will be followed by a lively auction, and a question and answer session with Leo and Kenton, mediated by Sandy Irvine’s great niece, and MHT Chair, Julie Summers.! ! Kenton has summited Everest eleven times, and in 2012 placed the Olympic Gold medal awarded to the 1922 team on the summit, fulfilling a pledge made by the deputy leader of that expedition, Lt Col Edward Strutt 90 years before. Kenton is an IFMGA guide and a leading alpinist, achieving many firsts in the greater ranges, including a link up traverse of Nuptse, Everest and Lhotse, and the first British Ski descent of an 8,000 metre peak.! ! Leo Houlding! ! Faster than a Top Gear car, Leo has excelled in exploratory mountaineering and climbing from a young age. He has led several high profile expeditions to difficult environments, most recently Ulvetanna Peak, in Antarctica, subject of the film ‘The Last Great Climb’. Leo took the role of Sandy Irvine in the 2010 film ‘The Wildest Dream’ that retraced the steps of Irvine and Mallory on Everest.! ! Julie Summers! ! Chair of the Mountain Heritage Trust, Julie is a celebrated author, and in ‘Fearless on Everest’ explores the inspiring life of her great uncle Sandy Irvine, lost on the mountain in 1924. She is a passionate preserver of mountain history and provides unparalleled expertise and enthusiasm to MHT.! ! The Mountain Heritage Trust! ! Founded in 2000, MHT conserves the vibrant history of British mountaineering and mountain culture. With ambitious plans to make its archive relevant and accessible today through exhibitions, events and new projects, MHT must raise funds to strengthen its position and resources, and build on its platform with the BMC and partnership with National Trust. From their home crags to the Alps, the Himalaya and unexplored reaches of the globe British climbers and mountaineers have left an incredible legacy of dreams and achievements.
