August 2016 Mita Media Center ( Keio University Library ) Guide The Keio University Mita Campus houses the Keio University Library (New Building, Old Building, South Building). They represent the university’s principal sites for conducting research in the humanities and social sciences. The libraries contain not only books, serials , but they also offer users access to various databases and electronic journals. Library Map The Keio University Mita Campus contains the Keio University Library (New Building , Old Building, South Building) ③New Building 2 3 ① South Building A library for legal research and commercial science in the basement floors of the South Building which was built in 2005. B3F ③ 5F Library & Information Science Room, Library & Information Science (Serials, Service Counter ② Law School Reference Books[R], B4F Stacks New Building Instruction Room, Rare Book Room ※ Books, Course Reserve Books, Completed in 1912, the left half of the building floors have been used for library ① South Building stacks since the construction of the New Law School Course Reserve Books, Building. It also houses the Toyama Music Collection donated by the Toyama Law School Serials, Music Foundation. Book Loans/Returns Service counters ・New building: Main Counter The loan periods designated by the Mita Media Center are outlined below: ・Old building: 3F Counter ・South building: B3F Counter Checkout Procedure Present your student ID or Library card and the books you want to check out at the counter. Return Procedure Bring books you want to return to the counter by yourself. ( Do not lend books you borrowed to anyone without undergoing procedure at the libraries.) Overdue Books There is a fine of 10 yen per book per day overdue. Overdue penalties still apply while the Media Center is closed. Penalty Policy You must pay penalty for staining, damaging, or losing materials from the libraries. Return Anywhere Services Books can be returned to any of the three Circulation counters regardless of the place of check out. You can also return them at other Media Centers. The staff will inform you if they must be returned to the same location when you check out. Loan period Undergraduates Japanese/Chinese/Korean: 14 days Other Languages: 30 days Graduates 30 days Faculty staff 90 days ※There is no limit to the number of books you can borrow from the Mita Media Center. ※Rules regarding loans may differ depending on the resource in question. ※The following publications may not be taken out : Reference books, Course Reserves, Oversized books, Audio-Visual materials, Periodicals (including newspapers, magazines, statistical publications and yearbooks, legislative materials and microforms) ※If any materials in the library are taken out without checking out, our book detection alarm will ring at the exit of the buildings. Renewals Reserving books on loan You can renew books via My Library (from KOSMOS top page) or at the counters. >Search engine:KOSMOS (http://kosmos.lib.keio.ac.jp/) If you need books currently out on loan, it can be reserved via KOSMOS through signing in your My Library page. ・As soon as the book is returned, you will be notified by e-mail (keio.jp account) The following books cannot be renewed: ・Books are remained reserved for 7 days exclude closed day after you receive the notice. ・You can also make online reservation requests. ・Books that have already been renewed twice* ・Books which are overdue* ・Books reserved by others Reference Service ※Undergraduate and graduate students can renew each book up to twice. There is no limit on renewals for faculty and If you are unsure how to search for resources or information or how to use the databases, please seek assistance from the staff at the reference counter. You can also submit questions and queries 24 hours a day by using the “Ask us! (Online Reference)” option in the Online Requests section. staff. ※However, if the book you want to renew is overdue, you must return it to the service counter. KOSMOS (Online Catalogue) The KOSMOS allows you to search the collection of books, journals, sound recordings, videos, dissertations, Japanese-bound books, rare books, e-journals, and ebooks contained in Keio University. Searching the Library’s Resources My Library (Renewing Books, etc.) HELP HELP You can search for the resources you require from the entire collection by verifying in which media center they are stored, the shelf location, and call number. You can also reserve items that are currently on loan and request items from media centers on other campuses. You can use the My Library function of the KOSMOS system to renew books (i.e., extend the loan period), check whether an item is on loan or reserved, reserve or request inter-library loans for items in the university collection, and cancel reservations online. ※You cannot borrow journals. E- Journals and E-Books Off-Campus Use (Remote Access) HELP HELP You can access the E-Journals/books and the databases from off-campus. You will need your Keio ID in order to log in. You can use KOSMOS to search through the library’s collection of E-Journals and E-Books. You can access the desired item by clicking on the title or the “Online Access” button. Some e-Book items are accessible only 5 minites ※Some resources cannot be accessed remotely for contractual reasons. Databases HELP The Database NAVI allows you to search through Keio University’s various databases to find one that suits your needs. You can search the available databases using keywords, field names, or types of resources (e.g., journal articles, newspaper articles, statistics, legal precedents, etc.). 3 Online Requests You can request the following library's services online without having to visit it. ○Interlibrary loan (ILL) requests You can request the loan of books from media centers on other campuses, or from other universities. (Loan requests for resources available through Keio University can also be made by accessing the KOSMOS search results screen.) ○Requests for Photocopy You can request photocopies of books or articles from other libraries to the extent permitted by applicable copyright laws. ○Book Purchase Requests If there are resources necessary for your study or research that are not owned by any of media centers (Library), you can request that the library purchase these items. Please be as specific as possible when stating your reasons for requesting specific items. ○Introductory Letter application You can apply for the Introductory letter from the library that you will need to visit other universities’ libraries and use their resources. Facilities To use the PCs on the Mita Campus and access the IT network, you will need an account issued by the ITC. Please check the ITC website for details on how to acquire an account. Mita ITC http://www.mita.itc.keio.ac.jp/en/com_account.html Other information ◇Email Registration Automatic notification from the library is sent by email. 【for Students】 Keio mail address has been already registered into the library system. Please note that your registered email address in the library system cannot be changed. 【for Faculty and Correspondence Course students】 Any kinds of email address can be registered. If you have not registered yet, please visit the main counter or online request (https://online.lib.keio.ac.jp/mita/req/linfomail/index.php) ◇Mobile Phone You may use mobile phone in the front area of the elevator on the 1st floor. Please set your mobile phone to SILENT MODE, and refrain from talking in other areas. ◇Food and Drink Only bottle-type of beverages with lid is allowed in the library except for the areas of computer, AV devices, and book stacks. Food is prohibited in the library buildings. ◇Photocopy Machines and Copy Service Counter Photocopy machines are available on each floor. Microform-reader/printers are on the 3rd floor. You can purchase a copy card with the vending machine located near the Copy Service Counter for ¥1,000 each. If you have any problems with copy machines, ask the Copy Service Counter attendant. *Copy machines in the Library are for library materials use only. They should not be used for personal notes or other non-Library materials. *Copying may be restricted for some Materials. (Rare books, semi-rare books, books bound Japanese style, etc.) ◇Lost Article We keep lost or left stuff found in the library at the Reception Desk of New building on the day they’re found. After the next day, they are kept by the Academic Affairs Group located on B1F, South School Building. (If you lost copy card or money around copy machines, please visit Copy Service Counter on the 1st floor.) 4
