Reinforced concrete slot units must be laid on frost-proof foundations. Depending on the traffic area loading and the property of the subsoil, the slot units are installed on a carefully compacted and drawn off formation, a subbase layer or on an unreinforced concrete foundation. If the adjacent traffic areas are made from stiff materials, e.g. concrete, adequately dimensioned expansion joints (not dummy/shadow joints) must be laid continuously along the whole height of the channel and along the length of the slot unit. To avoid damage, we recommend use of our »System DEHA« slot unit lifter, which we can supply to order. General laying instructions are available to download from our homepage: www.rohr.de. In the event of unfavourable gradients, such a shaft construction can be dispensed with. In that case, the reinforced concrete slot units can also be directly connected to the drainage sewer. To this end, the shafts are available from the factory with integrated shaft lining for all the usual pipe materials and nominal sizes. The maximum unit lengths given in the table therefore result for the construction of radii (with a channel width of 50 cm). max. effective length The reinforced concrete slot units are connected to the drainage sewers and drains by installing appropriate drainage manholes. These are combined with road gulleys according to DIN 4052 and consist of a shaft, base with DN 150, 200 or 300 mm outlet and a hot-dip galvanised sludge bucket. For example, if a sealed shaft structure is required for environmental reasons, we can also supply corresponding shafts with monolithic structures. Our reinforced concrete slot units are equipped with a removable plug-in connection in the form of a socket and spigot. We supply wedge-shaped elastomer slip rings as seals, which act as compression seals. These are usually made from SBR material, but can also be supplied made from EPDM or from NBR for increased oil and fuel resistance requirements. The width of the butt joint should be 5 to 10 mm and can be filled with a suitable jointing compound after completion of the traffic area construction. If laying radii, the channels can be deflected so that a joint of 5 mm, (outside 15 mm) results on the inside Radius Slot unit connection [m] [m] 50 1.00 100 2.00 150 3.00 200 4.00 The outlet can be positioned laterally or in the direction of the drainage pipe, less than 45° downwards or vertically. The distances between the connections must be adjusted to the size of the respective catchment/runoff area. 10 11 Manufacture / load bearing capacity Support/bedding Our reinforced concrete slot units are produced in precisely dimensioned steel formwork. The concrete recipe used is continuously optimised with respect to durability, taking into account state of the art engineering standards. Rebar steel BSt 500S/M is installed as reinforcement. We use C50/60 concrete for our reinforced concrete »Pfuhler Rinne« slot units. Its composition, production and use corresponds to a concrete to EN 206-1 and DIN 1045-2 and DAfStB guideline for self-compacting concrete (Issued November 2003). It is suitable for exposure classes: XD3 - Reinforcement corrosion induced by chlorides, other than from seawater, environment is cyclically wet and dry XF4 - Freeze/thaw attack with or without de-icing agents, environment with high water saturation and de-icing agents XA2 - Concrete corrosion induced by chemical attack, Moderately aggressive chemical environment, (except chemical attack by sulphate > 600 mg/l) Class D 400 channels correspond to Type I to EN 1433; i.e. they do not require a foundation to absorb loads in the installed condition to dissipate the loads that occur during use. Class F 900 channels correspond to Type M. They must be laid on a structurally calculated reinforced concrete foundation. Hydraulic performance The slot unit can be considered as a pipe for the purposes of the hydraulic calculations and the design carried out according to Prandtl-Colebrook. Flow rates for the respective longfall are given in the diagram below. The maximum distance between the inlet shafts/gulleys is calculated from the flow rate for the given channel gradient divided by the lateral inflow per meter length. Due to the high concrete strength (C50/60) in conjunction with the high tensile strength of the reinforcing steel used, reinforced concrete slot units can safely withstand the static and dynamic loads that occur. Constant, comprehensive quality assurance consisting of self-monitoring and external monitoring ensures a consistently high quality standard. According to EN 1433, drainage channels are classified in load classes analogous to manhole covers. The classification is made by means of a load test. We regularly subject our reinforced concrete »Pfuhler Rinne« slot units to appropriate load tests, together with a certified test institute. However, on request, we can also supply reinforced concrete slot units whose load bearing capacity is additionally verified, taking into account the respective loading and installation conditions according to accepted good reinforced concrete construction practice (DIN 1045-1). Road traffic loads are applied according to the DIN report 101, loads on airfield and airports correspond to the recommendations of the »Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Verkehrsflughäfen« (ADV). The following is a comparison between EN 1433 classification and the structural calculation: 12 Classification to: EN 1433 Test load to DIN EN 1433 Class D 400 400 kN Class F 900 900 kN Load pattern structural calculation: SLW 60/DIN Technical Report 101 BFZ 7500 The water inlet area of all profiles, based on the standard effective length 4.00 m with continuous slot, is approx. 25,500 mm2/m, for channels with an intermittent slot and profiles 3020, 30R, 3040 and 2040 it is approx. 17,500 mm2/m and for profiles 20R, 2030 and 25R it is approx. 14,900 mm2/m. 13 Reinforced concrete slot units with integrated internal gradient Drainage manhole/gulley (low point) in the middle Pfuhler Blocks A safe solution Pfuhler Blocks* Facts and figures Concrete quality We only use concrete to EN 206 and DIN1045-2 and strength class C50/60 for our Pfuhler blocks.
