OFFICE OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION RESTRUCTURED
For many years, the Office of Catholic Education (OCE) included Catholic Schools, Catechesis,
Youth Ministry, and Young Adult/College Campus Ministries. This past year, the OCE went through a
comprehensive internal review that led to a reorganization resulting in three separate but collaborative
secretariats. Annette “Mickey” Lentz noted in her summary following the decision, “By reorganizing into
three secretariats we will be able to give each of these important areas the time and resources they need to
|effectively educate and evangelize. These changes will allow us to serve parishes and the people of
the Archdiocese better as we carry out the mission of the Church in central and southern Indiana.”

Serving 69 schools in central and southern Indiana, the Secretariat for Catholic
Schools strives to support pastors, school leaders, teachers, support staff and school
commissions and boards in their work to form young people spiritually, intellectually,
socially, emotionally and physically. This office, in coordination with other secretariats, provides support in the areas of faith formation, professional development, curriculum development and alignment, government programming, development/
advancement and support services for students.

The Secretariat for Worship and Evangelization serves the archdiocese’s 131 parishes
in a multitude of ways, one of which is through the addition of the Office of
Catechesis. This office offers consultation services, training programs, and printed
and online resources for parish liturgical ministers. Fr. Pat Beidelman and his team
strive to teach the faith with an emphasis on missionary discipleship while providing
all catechists with the tools necessary for leading others to the Catholic faith.

The Secretariat for Pastoral Ministries was formed to bring together several key
ministries that enhance faith formation throughout central and southern Indiana while
providing even greater support to youth ministry and young adult/college campus
ministries. Services provided through the Secretariat for Pastoral Ministries include:
 consultative services, training, mentoring and certification for parish youth ministers and volunteers
as well as spiritual opportunities for teens in the archdiocese
 ministry and support to Catholic communities of young adults within the Archdiocese of Indianapolis
 educational, pastoral, and advocacy programs to support the family and the dignity of life
 development of ecumenical activities and programs for the clergy and people of all faiths

Father John McCaslin, pastor of Saint Anthony
Catholic Church in Indianapolis, is one of this
year’s National Catholic Education Association
(NCEA) honorees for his commitment to
Catholic schools and his efforts that resulted
in the reopening of Saint Anthony Catholic
School as a Mother Theodore Catholic
Academy (MTCA). Father John will accept
his award at a special celebration at the NCEA
2016 Convention and Expo in San Diego on
March 29.

serve the community in new and creative ways. The offices include:

Rev. Timothy R. Scully, C.S.C. Father Scully is the
Hackett Family Director of the Institute for Educational
Initiatives and the founder of the Alliance for Catholic
Education (ACE) at the University of Notre Dame.

The Young Adult and College Campus Ministry
has a mission to seek, find and invite all young
adults (ages 18-35) in the archdiocese to authentic life in Jesus Christ and to spiritually equip
them to become lifelong, missionary disciples.
Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Dialogue is
a movement among Christians and other faith
confessions to bring about greater unity and
cooperation.
Intercultural Ministries works to promote an
increased awareness of the cultural/ethnic
strengths and diversity of the archdiocese, to
assist parishes in developing services to meet
multicultural needs, and offer an intercultural
approach to ethnic and cultural diversity in the
archdiocese.
The Secretariat for Worship and Evangelization is responsible for coordinating the ministries of worship, adult initiation, catechesis, evangelization, and spiritual direction, while giving support
to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Christ Renews His Parish, Cursillo, and the Indiana Catholic Men and Women’s Conferences.
