If your family qualifies, a subsidized Stafford loan can be taken out and the govern ment pays the interest on the loan while the student is still in school. If you don’t qualify for a subsidized Stafford loan, then an unsubsidized Stafford loan can be given. In an unsubsidized loan, the interest can be paid as it accrues during school, or it can be added to the total loan amount to be paid after the student leaves college. To find out which type of loan you qualify for, visit www.fafsa.gov to fill out an applica tion for financial aid from the government. Once you complete the online form, you will be notified what types of loans you qualify for. When you submit your application to request the loan, use lender code 829158. Plus loans are unsubsidized and repayment begins 60 days after the loan is issued.
