Michael Biolsi points us to four biblical values:
u
Integrity provides me with protection.
When I have integrity, I have protection. I
have less fear and less stress because I do
not have to look over my shoulder all the
time.
Psalm 25:21
“May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in You.”
v
Integrity provides me with security.
w
I can be confident that what I do is right. If
you walk with integrity you do not have to
worry about having a shaky foundation for
what you do.
Proverbs 10:9
“The man of integrity walks securely, but he
who takes crooked paths will be found out.”
Integrity provides me with guidance.
Proverbs 11:3
“The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the unfaithful are destroyed by their
duplicity.”
Call Westover Church at 299.7374
and listen to the prompts.
They will lead you through
connecting to your party.
If you know their 4-digit
extension, key it in.
x
If you call Westover ‘home,’
please create a My Westover login.
After creating a login, you can update personal records, give online,
register and pay for events, and view the groups and classes in
which you participate.
My Westover Profile is a web-based companion to our church
database providing a dynamic two-way communication tool.
Our desire is to be good stewards of our resources, communicate
efficiently, and more effectively meet the needs of the body.
It’s easy!
s Visit westoverchurch.com
s Select the My Westover Profile logo on the right
s Select the bottom blue box (need a login)
s Select Need a Login - click here
s Fill in your email address and name and select Find Me
Each family needs only one login.
If you have any problems...email rpittard@westoverchurch.com
In a society without moral absolutes,
anything goes. When people can choose
what is right and wrong without having a
standard, how do you decide which way to
go? Eventually you will get caught in your
duplicity. However, if you live in integrity,
your decisions are easier to make—your
integrity guides you.
Integrity provides me with hope.
Job 4:6
“Is not your fear of God your confidence,
and the integrity of your ways your hope?”

Some of our Newcomers
Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.
This monthly newsletter and our
website www.westoverchurch.com
are two of the best ways to know
what’s going on at Westover. If you
are ready to take your first steps
here, we suggest the following...
Have you started attending
Westover recently and wonder
how to find out more about the
church? If you are relatively new to
Westover – OR – if you would like
to have a better understanding of
who we are and why we do things
– come to our next Newcomers
Class that will meet for 3 consecutive weeks, beginning Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and Feb. 10, at
11:00am in Room W203. (Exit through the back of the
Worship Center, enter the Main Lobby, go left into the
West Wing and the second room on the left is W203.)
This is essentially an orientation class that gives you
an opportunity to meet many of the pastors while
learning about Westover’s history, purpose/priorities,
ministries, and ways to connect. Plus, it’s a great first
step toward connecting at Westover. We look forward
to meeting you!
If you want to register, you can sign up at www.
westoverchurch.com. If you have questions, please
contact Beth Solberg (info box above), or complete
a response card which you will find at the bottom
of the WEEKLY or at Connection Pointe and indicate
“Newcomers.”
Choose the one that
best suits YOUR schedule!
Membership
Our newly-revised membership class is titled THE JOURNEY,
and focuses on six major components:
• Together on the Journey – the priority of the local church.
• The Beginning of the Journey – priority of the Gospel and
what that means for the church.
Sign up through
membership@
Westoverchurch.com
or by contacting
Beth Solberg
(Info box above).
• Truth for the Journey – a focus on the scriptures and the
“who, what, where, how, and so what?” of the Bible.
• Strength for the Journey – what is the role of the Holy
Spirit?
• Care Along the Journey – the importance of communal
living and leadership.
• Participating in the Journey – where serving, missional
living, and you intersect.
Each of these components is addressed during a week of the
class, and will be followed by a discussion within the class.
Conducted by pastors and other leaders of Westover, you
won’t want to miss it!
Our next 1-Day Membership class is being offered Sat.,
March 9 from 8:30am-2pm in W203.

GET CONNECTED
Stop by Connection Pointe located in the Atrium or Main Lobby! It’s THE information source
for anything Westover-related: connecting into ministry, finding out about classes (locations
and times), small groups, or ministry events that might interest you. If you’re new to Westover,
our friendly hosts will provide you with a welcome packet that highlights major ministries and
opportunities for you to get involved.
If you have a young child
that you would like to
have dedicated in one
of our services, please
contact Natalie Bower
(see info box).
BAPTISM
“So those who received His word were baptized…” Acts 2:41.
We know from scripture that baptism is commanded, and that
the act of baptism binds us to the body of fellow believers. To
learn more about baptism for you or your child—it’s spiritual
significance, mechanics of baptism, and next steps—consider
attending the next baptism class on Wed., Feb. 20, at 6:30pm
in N106. This class is a required step in the process. For more
info, or to sign up, contact Beth Solberg (see info box).
The next BAPTISM SERVICE is scheduled for APRIL 28 at
12:30pm in the Atrium. Please join us for this moving event!
Welcoming Ministries
Needs YOU!
It may look easy, but it takes hundreds of
people as part of Welcoming Ministries to
make Westover the warm, friendly place it is!
We have immediate needs in the following
areas: coffee Baristas, parking lot greeters,
shuttle bus drivers, door greeters, ushers, and
guides. Consider serving one Sunday in one
of these areas to see what you think! We’d
love to have you join us! Contact Caralynn
Vaughn (see contact info) to discuss these
opportunities.
Response Card
If you haven’t done so yet, please
complete the response card that you
will find at one of the Connection
Pointe locations or at the bottom of
the WEEKLY. We would like to give
you a phone call (or send you an
email) to say “Welcome!”

This open discipleship program is for elementary
students. The program that is used is called “The Gospel
Project” for kids. It offers the big picture of God’s story.
It’s a Bible story resource that follows a chronological
time-line of Bible events—presenting the story of
redemption through Jesus like kids have never seen
before. Each week these stories come to life through
video, music, activities, and more. If you’re interested in
joining us on Sun. evenings from 5-6pm, contact
Claudia Matthews (see contact info).
Jesus teaches about
loving enemies.
Jesus says love each other.
Shepherding Ministries
Shepherding Ministries welcomes all children
to join in worship, learning and fun every
Sunday morning. If you are the parent of a
special needs child, we have a special class
for your child. Please email Mary Clark at

Rick writes: I stumbled upon the following poem a few weeks ago and thought it was worth
passing along. Thanks to the unknown author for reminding us of the choices we could make
toward a healthy, God-honoring marriage.
IT’S THE EVERYDAY CHOICES THAT YOU MAKE:
To do what is best for your partner in life...
To respect the commitment of being husband and wife...
To be still and just listen—not have to be heard...
To forgive and forget and not need “the last word”...
To admit you’re not perfect—you’ll both make mistakes...
To support the decisions that each of you makes...
To be willing to laugh when a day has been rough...
To divide up the burdens when life becomes tough...
To support one another when things are too hurried...
To comfort each other when stress keeps you worried...
To be willing to cherish your true love and friend with a joy and compassion that will never end.
As you celebrate each year together:
May you always have...
Understanding to make your marriage work,
Commitment to make your marriage grow
And Love to make your marriage happy!
What a great reminder as we celebrate Valentine’s Day. What great advice for every
day of the year because great marriages don’t just happen!
Rejoice in the Lord always,
And again I say rejoice!
Want to Make a Marriage Memory? Plan a get-away to attend The Weekend to Remember
What you and your spouse will hear during the Weekend to Remember® is the
result of more than three decades of biblical research by a team of men and
women who distilled what it takes to have a successful marriage and family.
Our speakers will show you exactly how to pursue a marriage that really works
through stories of their own breakthroughs and blunders. We want you to leave the
weekend with encouragement, hope, and practical tools to build and grow your
relationship. That’s why we call this a Weekend to Remember.
Register using our church group name, WestoverChurch, and you will save 50%
on the conference fee at any location (Note, that does not include the hotel cost). See
FamilyLife.com for all the details and all the locations. The closest locations to us
are listed below.

In this six-session small group study, Andy Stanley exposes some
common ways God’s truth gets twisted. Each one has the potential
to destroy your relationships, cloud your decisions, and distort your
perception of Him. This study helps us discover the ways the truth
gets twisted in our lives and culture and, more importantly, how we
can recognize and overcome them. Contact Diana Brown (see contact

The Spain STT Team – Right Side:
Sandy Sikes & Barbara Zwadyk
Left side: Ben & Meghan Willis
Some of you may be asking “What Spain STT?” and rightly so as it was not announced during
our Dec. 2 STT Rollout Event. This STT formed from a request presented by our missionary, Dana
Saleeby, to our Children’s Ministry Director, Sandy Sikes, during last November’s Fall Global Celebration. Dana is the Midsouth Associate Regional Director for Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru).
She shared Cru’s need for programming for the missionaries’ children as their parents attended the
events at this year’s STINT (Short Term International) Mid-year Conference in Spain.
Sandy said, “I was very excited about this STT opportunity as I have been looking for ways for
children’s ministry to partner with Global (as we did during VBS last summer). After talking with
my staff, we decided to make this not only a short term trip, but also a “vision casting” trip as we
look for a way to carve out a niche for children’s ministry in Global Missions. For that reason,
our team is composed of children’s ministry staff (except for Meghan’s husband, who is quickly
becoming staff by proxy!). We are planning to use curriculum from last summer’s Babylon VBS
and our KIDS@nite programming, The Kids’ Gospel Project.”
Dana says, “This will not only serve in evangelism and spiritual growth for the children, but it
will also allow the parents an opportunity to more fully engage in the conference and be ministered to through the talks and time with other STINTers. It is such a blessing to the teams and
especially to the families who will be there!”
Praise God for His hand in all of this. We ask that you keep this team, the children and their
parents in prayer as they spend their week together focusing on our Lord Jesus Christ. May all involved receive encouragement and spiritual growth in Him, and may it produce much good fruit,
all for His Glory!

Please give these Westover Members a warm welcome home.
Remember to ask them to share what God has done, and is doing, as they serve Him in East Asia.

New Westover-Supported Missionary
On Fire for the Lord
Last year Westover began supporting Carrie.
She came to Cambodia doing an internship with
International Justice Mission and working with
trafficked young women and children.
We have rarely seen one so young, who is
so committed to God. She has a knowledge of
Scripture that is remarkable for someone her age.
She truly walks step-by-step with Jesus. Carrie
knows where she is going, but only because of
the amount of time she spends in the Word and
in prayer. Her desire to disciple and serve God
is both refreshing and inspiring. Her ministry in
Cambodia is so multifaceted. Two days a week
she is at the House of Prayer and facilitates the
WORK of prayer there. She teaches English. She
mentors several young women. Her soccer skills
are good enough that the boys let her play on
their teams. The soccer ministry here at Crossroads is having an impact in the community.
The other day we walked up the steep stairs
to her modest third floor apartment and needed
oxygen and leg massages when we got to the top.
Her apartment is small, and she sleeps on a small
woven grass mat. WHY? Because she is from
Texas, and is used to the wide-open spaces and a
bed would take up too much room and make her
feel enclosed.
She is passionate about exercise and nutrition and desires to get a program started with the
girls. But her greater desire, is that the beauty of
the 75+ girls that she works with, as well as the
girls coming out of being trafficked, comes from
within. A relationship with Christ and Him controlling their lives will bring more beauty than
they could imagine. It would heal the wounded
hearts and bring beauty in place of ashes. That is
what makes Carrie motivated to give up a life in
the USA to come here and serve so faithfully.
Pray for the huge ministry that Carrie has
here. Her life impacts young women from so
many walks of life. What a privilege for Westover
to have even a tiny part of her ministry.

monthly ministry focus
We welcome all individuals and families
to serve at the Westover Garden!
No need for a green thumb or gardening
experience, just a desire to get your hands
in the dirt and love our neighbors. Time
commitment is 1 hr/wk or more if you wish.
The 2013 Westover Garden Team will
consist of two core groups:
Gardeners
The Gardeners will focus on planting,
caring for and growing the garden. They
will water, prune, and harvest on a weekly
basis.
The need: 12+ Volunteers
Who are Gardeners? Anyone that wants
to get their hands dirty and grow!
Liaisons
The Liaisons will partner with an
immigrant/refugee family, and will
cultivate this friendship. Because of these
team members, the “recipient” families
will better understand that this is their
garden, they will visit and regularly
communicate with the families to make
sure they are visiting their garden. The
Liaisons will come alongside their family
and encourage.
The need: 1 liaison to each “recipient”
family
Who are Liaisons? Any person, family or
group that wants to get to know and show
God’s love to a refugee family!
Freedom Sunday
February 17
freedomsunday.org/about
Although freedom can be celebrated
any day of the year, Freedom Sunday is
a call for the global church to unite and
honor freedom. The first Sunday of Lent
was chosen because Lent is a season
to focus on suffering; a draw towards
reflection, fasting, and prayer. Abolition!
will support Freedom Sunday by sharing
information with all of Westover through
an electronic newsletter filled with
valuable articles, reports, video clips,
and conversation starters. For more info,
email us: abolitionnc@gmail.com. Like all
authentic worship, Freedom Sunday is not
confined to just a few hours on a specific
day. Our hope is that small groups, prayer
groups, LifeCommunities, other churches,
Christian organizations, and individuals
will join together and make the choice
to support freedom for all of our world’s
captives, locally and globally.

Are you in a life season when you have time to come alongside a “younger”
sister in the Lord and share what God has taught you about His holiness, love and
grace? Or, do you long to cultivate a friendship with a more mature woman with
whom you can explore your walk with Christ? Then mark on your 2013 calendar,
the dates of the next Woman2Woman class, Sundays, Feb. 24, March 3 and 10, from
9:30-10:30am in S008.
During this three-week class you’ll learn about God’s plan for “older” Christian
women to mentor “younger” women, and on the following Sunday afternoon, you’ll
be matched with a mentor or mentee for a 6-month period. Our prayer is that the
Sunday morning class time, when nursery care, children's programs, and services are
available for family members, will enable women interested in being a mentee or
mentor to attend the class. Women desiring to serve as a mentor, who have previously attended W2W training, do not have to attend the first three classes, but do need to
notify Beth Robertson of their willingness to serve as a mentor.

Mentors Needed
Are you ready
to invest
in the life of
someone else?
2 Tim. 2:2 tells us that we’re not
supposed to hang on to the things
we’ve learned but rather to pass
them along to others. In doing that,
there is opportunity for greater
things to come.
Are you ready to
become a mentor?
If so, contact
Pastor Rick Trautman
(see contact box).

Living in the Freedom
and Power of Christ
•To live courageously in the face of
pressure.
•To satisfy my soul’s thirst for God.
Place – Every man needs to be
connected with a group of men
who encourage, support, and
challenge him.
•To love and be loved without
reservation.
•To live life with godly power and

Purpose – Every man needs to
know his life is not random. He is
on this earth to make a difference.
As each man discovers and lives
out God’s purpose for his life,
he will know his life has made a
lasting impact…

Drop By
4 Prayer
Meet us at the front left (as you
face the stage) side of the Worship
Center for prayer on Sunday
mornings between services. Drop
by with your personal requests, or
join in prayer for others. Everyone
is welcome.
“Pray for each other so that
you can live together whole and
healed. The prayer of a person
living right with God is something
powerful to be reckoned with.”
James 5:16 The Message
Know God More Intimately: Pray Using His Names
The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run into it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10
God proclaims His names in Scripture to reveal Himself to us. When we study His names we can see
Him more clearly, correcting mistaken ideas we might have. Then we will know where to run in times
of need, and will be able to pray with power as our prayers align more closely to His will. What is true
about our God? Let’s take the next few months to explore some of His names, and then pray accordingly.
Adonai | The Lord and Master
For the LORD (Jehovah) your God is God of gods and Lord (Adonai) of lords, the great God, mighty
and awesome. Deuteronomy 10:17
Turn to Me and be saved . . . for I am God, and there is no other. . .Before Me every knee will bow.
Isaiah 5:22-23
You are not your own; you were bought with a price. I Corinthians 6:19-20
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will
of My Father who is in heaven. Matthew 7:21
Dear Adonai,
In Your Word you tell us that You are our Lord and Master, and we believe that You tell the truth. Still,
this is a difficult concept to grasp for people who live in a democracy where it is illegal to own another
person. Please help us to understand our relationship to You, and what it means to call You Lord. Help
us to come to You humbly with our requests; not with pride in our own knowledge or abilities. By the
power of Your Spirit, teach us to obey You, not just with our words, but with our hearts, actions and
lives. It is such a comfort to know that You are a wise and loving Master who became a servant for us.
Thank you for Your example. Amen.

these groups for prayer.

information is important and should
never be used to guide or influence
any aspect of the ministry. Current IRS
guidelines require Westover to provide
an annual charitable contribution receipt
for all single contributions of $250 or
more. This is not a cumulative total of
contributions, but this limit applies to
each individual contribution. That is
why you may have noticed that your
annual giving statements do not reflect
contributions under $250.

THE TRADER
For those attending funerals and memorials at Westover, please park
near and enter through the North Canopy Entrance; as other entrance
doors are locked during the week. By entering through the North
Canopy, you will be on the correct level for services that are either
held in the Theater (old worship center) or the Main Worship Center.
Those needing assistance in walking can be dropped off under the
North Canopy and it will allow them to be at the closest entrance to
where the services will be held. Please follow “funeral” signs in the
parking lot directing you to parking near the North Canopy.
LIFE@Westover is published monthly by Westover Church.

USE OF THE CALENDARS:
Pages 23 & 24 are calendars reflecting events going on at Westover for the year (page 23) and for the current month (page 24). Page 23 will show each month with
the date of the activity/event scheduled. This will not give you the details about the activity/event or the time and place. For more detailed info about a specific ministry
event, go to the ministry page and locate the contact name, phone number, and/or email address and direct your inquiries to that person. If the event/activity is taking
place in the current month, go to page 24 and look up the date and it will give you time, place, etc.
Since most of these events/activities have deadlines for registration or sign-up, those dates will be reflected under the ministry page in this newsletter or on page
24 if it’s taking place in the current month. These calendars are updated each month as new events are added/changed for the year. Cut this last page out and use these
calendars to help plan ahead.
