Built and designed in 1883 by architect Adolf Leonard van Gendt, the building started her existence as restaurant Riche. The Rokin was, at this time, one of the most prestigious streets in Amsterdam, with luxury companies. The building is designed in the ‘Weense stijl’. The period in which it was built was for Van Gendt a transition period. The eclectic elements from his previous buildings are still visible in the building. As well as specific details from the neo-renaissance, which was more Van Gendts focus towards the end of the century. INTEROIR – HISTORIC DETAILS “gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love” MONUMENT The original and monumental characteristics of the interior has been preserved through the years, and the quality of the historic elements in the building is high. They give the building a specific mood which forms the basis for new modern interventions, creating an interesting mix of classic and contemporary. INTERIOR – NEW FINISHINGS “beauty has a lot to do with character” INTERIOR The general style of the interior is open and spacious with respect for historic values. A classic building that has been transformed to fit modern times. A minimalistic shell makes it possible for each floor to be styled and branded to fit the desired corporate identity. A new design in an “oud jasje” which focusses on experience, quality and identity.
