Paws Minute for a 865-573-9675 HumaneSocietyTennessee.com Winter,2016 20 15 was an extraordinary year. Because of you, countless cats and dogs were granted a new lease on life. Thank you! Your time and generosity made the difference between life and death for animals in our community. Together we can end the euthanasia of adoptable animals in our community. Please help us make 2016 a year of bright new beginnings for animals in need. In December, a record breaking 150 animals found their forever home. 60 HSTV cats and dogs found a home in just three days during Grayson Subaru’s Home for the Holidays, a collaborative adoption event between HSTV and Young-Williams Animal Centers. were fixed at our nonprofit low-cost spay/ neuter clinic because their owners recognized the importance of not breeding. Nearly 150 animals were fixed through our transport program. On top of that, 55 families received grant and donor sponsored spay/neuter assistance. KEEP 140 dogs were helped by new training programs thanks to a Pedigree Foundation grant and your support. 16 Heroes & Hounds veteran volunteers trained 18 dogs under the guidance of certified trainers. All of these dogs are now healthy, well-balanced pets. Thank you for helping us keep pets in their homes. Fosters Save Lives TIME on her side G odiva was a little set in her ways when she arrived at HSTV. She was very much a diva! While it was tempting to pet her silky smooth coat, you had better wait for her invitation. Godiva, like many cats, needed time to warm up to new faces. For many homeless animals, time is never on their side. The clock is always ticking and the future not promised. Luckily for Godiva, HSTV supporters put time on her side. And sure enough, as she grew to know and trust the staff and volunteers, Godiva proved to be a very sweet cat. Godiva was with us for almost a year before meeting the right adopter. Today, Godiva is pampered like the princess she is and while she may never say it, Thank You! Your generosity sheltered, vetted, fed and allowed us to love Godiva for nearly a year. Thank you for putting time on her side. Thank You for Saving the Lives of Animals Like Bilbo L ast year, Mya, a pit bull mix, found herself abandoned at one of our partner shelters. She had recently been separated from her nursing pups and their location was unknown. Soon after, a litter of orphaned new born puppies came to the shelter. In an attempt to save their lives, shelter workers decided to try Mya, still lactating, with the orphaned pups. But, with crowded conditions and limited resources, Mya needed a place to rest and raise the pups, if she would accept them. Thanks to an HSTV foster family, Mya was given the chance to save the pups and she did. Today, Mya has been spayed and adopted into a loving family. The same goes for the puppies she saved. Read how one adoptive family has been impacted by the love of rescue dogs Four years ago the Massey family adopted Vivi, a 7-week-old baby girl. From her first day with them, Vivi was surrounded by love and welcomed by the family’s rescue dog, Bella, a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix. “As Vivi grew, Bella was there literally every step of the way as her constant companion,” says Vivi’s mom, Jackie. Last January the family lost Bella to a sudden illness. In September they adopted Bilbo. He instantly won their hearts with his big head and goofy, yet somehow familiar face. “His unique mix of Shar-pei and Border Collie was like a sign from heaven that all of our previous dogs were cheering us on to adopt again,” believes Jackie. The family’s oldest daughter, Rachel, was four when they adopted their first rescue dog, a Shar-pei named Rufus. At almost 24, some of her fondest memories involve dogs. “The unconditional love we have received from our dogs over the years is amazing and as necessary to our family as food and water,” says Jackie. C ompassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind. In Memory Of... Hershey, a nine-year-old chocolate Lab/pit bull mix was adopted by Kevin Haase during the Grayson Subaru Home for the Holidays adoption event; a collaboration between HSTV and Young-Williams Animal Centers. Nearly 200 families chose to adopt, not shop during the three-day event.
