See Official Rules for full contest rules at EastIdahocu.org Celebrating 80 years of Service “Invested in you, invested in community” I n July of 1935, a gentleman from Washington D.C. came and explained the “credit union” idea to a small group of interested postal employees in Idaho Falls, Idaho. After listening to his presentation, the group felt that by pooling their money and forming a member-owned establishment, they would be able to take advantage of the benefits a credit union would have to offer. The money needed to apply for a charter was collected and an application was filed on July 10, 1935. By August 9, 1935, the charter was approved and the Credit Union was officially in business under the name of Idaho Falls U.S. Employees Federal Credit Union. On the first day of business, total deposits were $52.75 from 24 members. Eighty years later, East Idaho Credit Union is one of the oldest and largest credit unions in Idaho with 10 branch locations serving over 40,000 members in 10 eastern Idaho counties. Some employees have worked at the credit union for over 25 years. Our heritage is rich and strong. We are delighted that you’ve chosen to be a part of the East Idaho Credit Union Credit Union family and are truly thankful for your membership. The credit union has grown and prospered because of your loyalty and commitment. We look forward to continuing to uphold the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” Congratulations! Therefore, we suggest all members contact us prior to going out of town or prior to making a larger than normal purchase. We can flag your account to ensure your cards will continue to work without being blocked for suspicious activity. If you have an questions, please call us today at 1-800-727-9961. Here are updates with our community involvement for the past few months. Coins for Christmas raised over $17,000 in 2014 purchasing over 980 pairs of shoes for students in need. Over 90 schools were involved in the cause to help east Idaho. EICU employees had the opportunity to participate in a “Casual for a Cause” fund-raiser throughout November and December to benefit Toys for Tots. They had to donate either toys or cash in order to wear jeans on Wednesdays. We had five of our branches participate, while other branches donated time and money to other local charities. The five branches filled over 5 boxes with toys and bikes. (Special thanks to Dave’s Bike Shop for giving us helmets at cost to provide with the bicycles.) It took the team from Star 98 Radio two full-size vans to carry all the toys to the Toys for Tots facility. Salmon community warm over the winter. They also collected pull-tabs from cans for the Ronald McDonald house and will continue to collect them throughout the year. The Rexburg branch raised funds for the Family Crisis Center. The Challis branch collected over $600 to support their local EICAP cancer support and Helping Hands. Arco and St. Anthony branches had to have their Giving Tree Ornaments replenished due to the high level of participation plus they collected cash to fulfill more ornaments from the trees.
