MCU Reports Continued Financial Growth
and Member Support in 2013
MCU Board Secretary Shirley Jenkins addresses the crowd at the 2014 Annual Meeting.
MCU Chairman of the Board of Directors Mark S. Brantley, Esq. and President/CEO Kam Wong
addressed members at the annual meeting on May 7, 2014 at the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan,
announcing 2013 as another year of continued financial growth with total assets amounting to
more than $1.95 billion and increased member deposits.
“Working cohesively,
I am fully confident
that the MCU team will
continue to effectively
serve our members and
city as a whole.”
“These surefire indicators of our strength
as a financial institution, coupled with
our member-focused practices, allow
us to offer our members access to
credit and loan products while larger
financial institutions remain reluctant
to extend access to these services,”
Wong said, as the treasurer’s report
showed that MCU has amassed a
$1.28 billion loan portfolio and a loan
versus member funds ratio of 71.64%.
In addition to a generous loan portfolio,
MCU spent 2013 by providing new
financial tools and services to help
improve the MCU member experience.
MCU Director Emeritus Thomas Diana accepts a special
award from Chair of the Board Mark S. Brantley, Esq.,
for his 35 years of dedicated volunteer service to MCU.
This includes the introduction of the
pilot credit counseling program, which
educates member groups on various
credit and personal finance topics,
as well as improvements to MCU’s
mobile banking services.

Keeping in the credit union tradition
of “people helping people,” Municipal
Credit Union also reported its continuation and explanation of its
philanthropic efforts throughout the
New York City area. “MCU never loses
sight of our responsibility to give back
to the communities we serve,” Brantley
said, going on to discuss MCU’s
sponsorship of the St. John’s Civil
Service Appreciation Day, honoring
“Hometown Heroes” in education and
transit and advocating for the rights
of credit union members across the
country through supporting the
“Don’t Tax My Credit Union” initiative.
Both Brantley and Wong also reported
significant efforts made by MCU to
engage in youth initiatives, including
a partnership with the United Federation of Teachers to host the second
annual Youth Empowerment Day, and
partnering with the Frederick Douglass
Academy and Make the Grade Foundation to build the first ever student
run online radio station. Municipal
Credit Union also supported the
young people within our communities
by donating more than $82,500 dollars
in scholarships.
“MCU never loses sight
of our responsibility
to give back to the
communities we serve.”
The success of 2013, both financially
and through community outreach
efforts, has set the stage of many
more thriving years for MCU. “Working
cohesively, I am fully confident that
the MCU team will continue to effectively serve our members and city as
a whole,” Brantley said to members,
as he looked to 2014.
