"We are moving to Brandon, MB................... Thank you to everyone that made our last 11 years in Hamiota very enjoyable !! We will always remember the friendships made while living here. We are going to miss the small town atmosphere. We are thankful to have raised our family in such a wonderful community. We hope to see you in Brandon in the future." To Denise's patients at Hamiota Dental, "I will truly miss you as I continue my career at Brightside Dental Care in Brandon." Remember Maureen Schwanke’s picture Walking to the Future that won the Lily Oncology Award ? She donated her $1,000 winnings to the Hamiota Cancer Care Program Let it be known...Maureen has loaned the picture to the Hospital for everyone to enjoy. Come and view the actual award winner!! Thank You Maureen !!! Emily Lints, a Ranger in 1st Hamiota Guiding, received a Girl Guides of Canada Tree Planting grant. She partnered with the Hamiota Parent Advisory Council to plant five trees at the local school playgrounds. In the school yards, there was very little shade for teachers, parents, and children to sit under. These trees were planted in hopes that future generations might enjoy much needed shade and comfort at the playgrounds. At the beginning of August, these five shade trees were successfully planted; three at the elementary school and two at the high school. Emily hopes to continue to take care of the trees and make sure that they are ‘well-taken-care-of’ throughout the seasons. The Hamiota Lions are preparing for another busy season. Interestingly, if you are a believer in Jesus Christ you have been given an extreme make over spiritually. However in Philippians 2:12-13 we read, “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” This means that you are a new creation in Christ, but you have to work it out into your life to experience all the blessings that come from being a follower of Christ. For example, you have been set free from fear and anxiety, but are you experiencing freedom in your mind and thought-life. You can learn to put off the old you and its limitations, and realize the new you and what you’re capable of through Christ. Relationships, and finances are just two areas that we can experience an extreme makeover but we have to work at it. The old way of thinking says that nothing will ever change, but God says and an extreme make over is His desire for you. You have the nature of God and the mind of Christ! Don’t ever stop exposing your mind to an extreme makeover. We all have work to do in one area or another so we constantly need to refer to the Bible to help realize all the blessings we have in Christ and what we have been given through Him. Get into God’s Word and start to do what it says you can do and become who it says you are! .........Till next month, be really blessed! Pastor Orland Announcements: Welcome Back Sunday September 20- 10:30 AM. Doug Martindale 764 2349 4 September 2015 rd A successful 123 Hamiota Fair was held on July16th under near perfect weather conditions for the whole day and into the evening. Unfortunately the rain, a couple of days prior (& the evening before), rendered the gymkhana arena unsuitable for any events. Overall, entries increased to 298 from 272, however there were 26 no shows in the light horse classes which were held on the grass arena and the gymkhana classes had to be cancelled. We welcomed several new exhibitors this year in heavy horse, light horse, cattle, miniatures, cooking & canning, handicrafts, school work and junior. Appreciation is extended to Reg Madsen and Murray Sheane, Heavy Horse directors who brought all of the heavy horse exhibitors for the Complex for lunch. Congratulations to all the participants who helped to make the fair a success. The directors would especially like to thank the grains and garden produce judge, Sid Lewis (Ragweed) for donating his judging skills. A sponsorship was applied for from Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries and orange tee shirts were received for all volunteers to wear. The generous donation from Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, together with our prize sponsorships and donations towards the cost of the meal, are gratefully appreciated as we still have not received our grant from the Manitoba Government. Thanks to all of the volunteers who phoned for either pies or donations towards the Fair Day Supper and appreciation is extended to all those who agreed to help in the kitchen with the meals. A successful concert concluded the day. This report would not be complete without great appreciation being extended to the Parks Staff for all their assistance in maintaining the grounds, getting everything ready for the fair crowd. All requests for the Complex set up was handled in a timely manner. Without the assistance of Mike, Elgin and staff the fair would not have happened. “Thank You Very Much” from the Ag Society and Directors. We received comments on how nice the grounds looked and how well they are maintained. Winning 50/50 ticket of $180 belonged to Wanda Smith of Hamiota. Congratulations to Wanda and thanks to all who purchased tickets. Good luck in next year’s draw! Plans are underway for Hamiota Fair 2016 edition. If you like to knit, crochet, sew, quilt, do crafts, take a look at the 2015 prize list which is online at website www.hamiota.com. Now is the time to be planning your projects for next year’s fair. Practice your baking skills and plan to enter the many classes in the Cooking and Canning Section. The Homecrafts Section is looking for Junior leaders who would like to help with the handicrafts and homecrafts fair day. If you are interested in helping out, give a call to Hazel Henderson @ 764-2765 or Marlene Andrew @ 764-2546. Thanks to the teachers at the Elementary School for their encouragement to all students to participate in the School Work Section. Take a look at the Junior Section and plan to enter some classes. You may earn some easy spending money for the summer. See you at the Fair next year! On April 17th, the Hamiota Lions Club hosted an appreciation lunch at the Hamiota Community Centre for seniors 65+. Over 100 seniors were in attendance. During lunch, the Hamiota Lions Club took the opportunity, with the help of Zone Chair Lion Jim Boles who was in attendance, to present Lion Pete Oberlin with the Melvin Jones Award. The Melvin Jones Fellowship award is the highest form of recognition that a Lion member can be presented with. It embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of the Lions. Our Club is very fortunate to now have 3 Melvin Jones recipients......................’Thank You’ to Lion Jim for all his help. After lunch, entertainment was provided by George Rogers, Cyril Maxwell, Nora Gray, Linda Conner and Jack Boyd. We would like to express our appreciation to these talented musicians for the wonderful music provided and to Cyril for his hard work setting up the equipment. “Thank You” also goes to Lion Dwayne Campbell for providing the keyboard We would also like to thank those that donated door prizes. The Lions hope that everyone enjoyed the afternoon! . September 2015 At the Arts Centre There are just two more “Tea at the Old Bank” teas left in our summer season (Sept. 17 and Sept. 24) from 2-4 p.m. with an assortment of great desserts to choose from. The board will be bringing a number of different desserts and serving up 'sampler' sizes that taste testers can vote on to tell us their favorites for next summer's menu. It's great fun and a great way to wind up the summer season.
