One male had already been neutered, but fortunately for Bean, it was not a wasted trip, since he was vaccinated with the FVRCP vaccine and received his rabies vaccine for free, as did all 25 cats. Along with the other cats, Bean also received a tattoo on his underside for a quick identification of a "fixed" cat, of course, while under anesthesia. Of the 25 cats, 9 were FAWS fosters or recently adopted kittens. FAWS adheres to a policy of sterilizing all cats prior to adoption. A few kittens are too tiny to be spayed/neutered prior to adoption, that is, less than 2 pounds. The families who adopt these tiny kittens either get the kitten sterilized at their own vet or we take them to LSU at the next available spay day event, and FAWS pays the $30. to LSU. Thanks to the team for giving so much of their time and effort on this weekend. There’s a ton of work involved: trapping, driving, heavy lifting, paperwork. The Feline Management Team consists of Patrice, Harolyn, Candice, Pamela, Brittany, Gail, Robert, and Michaela. TO CONTACT FAWS Feliciana Animal Welfare Society P.O. Diva came from a 60-member cat clan north of Clinton. She found a wonderful forever family and even helps her new girlfriend with her homework. 3 Ted didn’t mind the wet weather at all when he went to the Pet Sense Adoptathon. Even though it was a rainy day, Pet Sense customer turnout was still impressive, resulting in 3 canine adoptions for FAWS. Though we brought a nice foursome of various breeds of puppies, the happy winners of dogs awaiting forever homes were adults, with big black five month-old Ted being the youngest. FAWS members regularly visit the War Veterans Home in Jackson and Grace Nursing Home in Clinton. Participating animals need no special certification. They must be friendly with people and other animals and should be up-to-date on vaccinations. The more animals and greater variety of animals we bring, the more successful the visit. He was rescued out of a drain pipe when he was only 6 weeks old. Now approaching 10 weeks, Champ will be a large dog, since his father was probably a German Shepherd. Champ is up to date with shots and worm medicine. He has a really sweet nature, loves to plays with other dogs, and enjoys the company of children. Look at those stripes! Kahn is a real beauty. We're guessing he has some Black Mouth Cur in his background; his true breed is unknown. Kahn is a massive dog, approximately 1 year old, and neutered, Left to starve by his previous owners, Kahn came into the loving hands of rescuers who have completely restored his health. This big beautiful guy now lives with other family pets in his foster home. He’s ready for a permanent home now and is waiting for his forever family to come get him. Ruthie's story is one of pure survival. She had been spotted several times roaming the city streets. But she was leery of being caught. Her instincts told her to be wary. Finally, she began to trust her rescuers and cried for help one day, and as they say-- the rest is history. Ruthie is now completely socialized and loving every minute of it. Her foster family has showered her with love and lots of attention. What a beautiful loving kitten she has become! Complete her world by adopting this little darling. You'll be rewarded tenfold.
