The Richland One Community Coalition (ROCC) is a part of the Student Support Services Department and is proud to assist Richland County School District One with its mission: We are Richland One, a leader in transforming lives through education, empowering all students to reach their potential and dreams. RICHLAND ONE COMMUNITY COALITION THE NEED FOR ROCC The Richland One Community Coalition (ROCC) was formed in response to the desire of the Richland One community to reduce youth substance abuse and strengthen families. Parents, students, churches, nonprofit agencies and other organizations meet to tackle issues that threaten the future of Richland One youth and our community. ROCC (pronounced “rock”) is an organization that is on the move! This action group is comprised of community individuals and organizations including churches, nonprofit agencies, schools and businesses involved in reducing substance abuse. ROCC MISSION To mobilize the community to address the underlying conditions of substance abuse and other high risks behaviors among youth through community awareness, concern and action. ROCC PURPOSE To reduce youth substance abuse and increase community collaboration and parental involvement. RICHLAND ONE COMMUNITY COALITION ROCC COMMITTEES Executive Steering: Provides oversight and input into coalition management and operations. Sustainability Task Force: Serves as an advisory body tasked with developing recommendations for sustaining ROCC. Communication: Strives to build awareness about ROCC, as well as, youth substance abuse and prevention. Community: Expands opportunities for community involvement and collaboration. Parent: Seeks to enhance parental engagement in substance abuse prevention efforts. Youth: Aims to involve and empower youth to become leaders in youth substance abuse prevention. ROCC INITATIVES ROCC collaborates with other like-minded groups and individuals to carry out its mission. We pursue that mission through the work of committees, each one focusing on environmental strategies and activities: Advocacy Environmental Scans Multi Media Awareness Campaigns Above the Influence (ATI) Social Marketing Social Norms Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Prom and Graduation Safety Campaigns School Surveys Youth Leadership Development INTRODUCTION COMMUNITY RESOURCE DIRECTORY The Richland One Community Coalition (ROCC) developed a community-based organization directory for parents, students, and community leaders in the Richland One area.
