Players' Stuff What Is This? 2000-09-07 19.13 This booklet is some kind of players handbook for the product "The Kingdoms of Kalamar" from Kenzer and Company. It's only made to be useful for me, but may be useful for others as well. This here booklet is meant to contain some usefull and useless information about the world of "Tellene" in wich some of my gaming might take place. I's not the prefect book. There are grammatic and spelling errors. There probably are other errors as well. Hope it's good for something though. /Jonas Kingdom of Mendarn The Lands Mostly human Here's some short descriptions about the lands, and most nations. Lot's of farms, some fishing. Quite a lot of halflings. Some dwarves and gnomes in the hills. Skirmishes with Pel Brolenon. Some gold in the rivers. Excellent jewelers. An island controlled by the Keepers of the Four Corners, inhabited by enormous dancing humanoid fire-beings, lies somewhere outside Mendarn coast. Brandobia Crondor Woods: Beautiful forest with Lot's of elves. Lendelwood Elven Beautiful forest with good weather. Home to a large elven kingdom. Human and halfling woodsmen and farmers live at the edges.Rumors tels of a great elven city and the greatest trees an Tellene in the middle of this forest. These elves have been a bit dangerous since somone desecrated the grave of the long dead elven king Fiondeala. Theocracy of Pel Brolenon Mixed Lot's (meaning really lot's) of slavers. Dangerous place. Home to the House of Shackles. Skirmishes with Mendarn. Eldrose Forest: Ugly, bad, dangerous forest. Keep away from it. Voldorwoods Elven A massive forest where almost no humans have been. The eastern part is inhabited by rustic elves. There are rumors of wild elves as well. Kalamar Once, almost the whole of Brandobia was one glorious country. This country fended of the Kalamaran armies, they chase away the goblins, hobgoblins and orcs, and almost drove the elves away. The elves blessed the ruler of Brandobia with frutiful loins, and his three sons later split the land between them after a long civil war. Avdoron Mires Bad swamp filled with bogeymen and other foul creatures. Brandobian Ocean Lot's of traffic. Lot's of Eldorian colonies. Elenon Mountains High, cold, big, dangerous chain of mountains. There are dwarven miners in the southern parts. Alumapale Springs: Strangely colored, steaming, warm springs high in Legasa Peaks. Dopromond Hills: Gnomes and halflings. Lot's of miners. Napalago Hills: The gateway to the east. Welpremond Downs: Halflings, Elves and Dwarves. Yan Elenon Mountains: Lots of orcs and some ogres. Kingdom of Cosdol Once, the Kalamaran Empire ruled all of Kalamar, from Shadesh Bay to the Kalamaran Sea. Now this is not so any more. Mostly elven & half-elven Lot's of wizards and such. Also quite a few merchants. Lot's of people of most races. The first emperor to hold this land was Fulakar, who made a oact with the Lurker in the Void to secure the border against the Obakasek Jungle. Kingdom of Eldor The greatest emperor was King Theodorus I who reunited the empire with the help of hist loyal man Rovak Fen'doral (who rode on the great silver colored dragon Vevisalakale). Human Old and stable kingdom. Not a good place for non-human people and actually not too fun for other foreigners either. Has some colonies. Is at war with the elves in Lendelwood. The Known World King Theodorus I rewarded Rovak Fen'doral by striking a silver coin (now called "Silver Dragon" and invaluable to collectors) with Rovak Fen'doral on one side and the dragon on the other. 4 Players Stuff Bet Kalamar: A vast and magnificent city with great towers Here one can find exotic people, goods and pleasures from all over the world. Rovak Fen'doral was later transformed into a sword that would have eternal life, so that he could protect his King (and his Kings line of sons) in the future as well. Paliba Woods: Fearsome beasts and elves live in this forrest. King Theodorus I died of old age when he was over a 100 years old, but all his children and grandchildren was murdered. Kingdom of Tokis Doulathanorian Mostly human An elven kingdom deep in the Edosi Forest. Imperial troops are not welcome here, Ruled by the empire. At war with Pekal. A poor, overtaxed and starving country. Elos Bay Kolokar's Barrier An unusally safe body of water, as long as you're on good terms with the empire. This is a great stone barrier reaching from the Kakidelas to the Byth Mountains. At every ten miles there's a stone tower with a cellar. Duchy of Dodera Lands of Tarisato Mostly human Mostly human Ruled by the empire. Ruled by the empire. This lands are ruled by nine lords in the name of the emperor, and sometimes fight each others to gain more lands. There are lot's of hobgoblins living in the P'Tikor Hills in th east, and they provide soldiers for the emperor. Some camps with renegade dwarves from Karasta in the Kakidela Mountains. There has been nine different dukes over the last 16 years. They are being killed because they fail to reconquer Tharrgy and to kill of the dwarven renegades. P'Rorul Peaks: Great basalt peaks. Thera are dwarves, orcs and hobgoblins mining for gemstones here. A quite poor war-tired country. P'Tikor Hills: There's no law here, but lot's of hongoblin factions trying to maintain it. Duchy of O'Par Obakasek Jungle Mostly human A hot humid jungle with lot's of rain and lot's of goblinoid creatures and dangerous warmblooded lizards. In a hidden valley in the jungle clad mountains, there are lizards so big a man can stand inside one of their footprints. The home of the Parish of the Prolific Coin has it's ancient and forgotten home, filled with riches, somewhere near ther rivers of the Obakasek. This is a small neutral country surrounded by nations at war with each other. The Duke allows all nations to trade and send troops through his lands, and thus can collects tithes and taxes from them all. Bet Bereli: Home to the duke, and a good source of information as O'Par has the best spies and informers in the known world. Principality of Pekal Ka'Asa Mountains Mixed An active volcanic mountain range with bad air and lot's of giants, goblins, trolls and such. This country is at war with the Kalamaran Empire. Without the help of elves of Cilorea and the people of Tharrgy and Paru'Bor. Magma River: A contiunous river of magma floating from a volcano high in the mountains. It sometimes changes direction without warning. The ruler is the half-elf Prince Kafen whose father led the revolt against the empire. Karasta There are lots of humans, elves, half-elves, halflings, dwarves and gnomes in the principality, but goblins, orcs and such are rarely seen. This was once a dwarven kingdom, but is now occupied by th emperors forces of humans and hobgoblins. The dwarves are still fighting though. And some giants. The are quite a few magic users in the principality, and the College of Magic has parts in the ruling of it. Bet Rogala: The capital of Pekal, and home to the College of Magic. Kingdom of Basir Mostly human Udo Bog: An area south of Lake Eb'Sobet where tar and flaming oil bubbles to the surface. Ruled by the empire. Big navy. Dwarves, gnomes and halflings in the highlands. Lot's of trade as well. A good place to be. Rainbow Falls Ubikokeli Highlands: In the grottos under these hills lies the secret of the Great Sword of Fulakar the Conqeror. A blessed and bueatiful place in the evil lands of the Lopoliri Mountains, this waterfall is 400 feet high and allways has a beautiful rainbow above it. Kingdom of Kalamar Ryakk Woods Mostly human This is a strange and not nice wood in the Kakapela Hills. A feudal state with a strong army and heavy taxes. Ruled by His Most August Supremacy, Emperor Kabori I. Rumors sais that the emperor receives a Silver Dragon each year, and that if the coin is a golden coin one year, then the Sword of Kings has returned and King Theodorus I shall be avenged. The emperor denies this though. The emperor also rules over the Kingdoms of Tokis and Basir, the Lands of Tarisato and the Duchy of Dodera and occupies the dwarven Kingdom of Karasta. The Kingdoms primary enemy is the Principality of Pekal. Alubelok Swamp: A great and dangerous swamp, except for the waterways and rice fields. Players Stuff 5 The Known World City-State of Shrogga-pravaaz The Young Kingdoms Mixed This state is ruled by kobold's who mine for stones and sell water. A pretty rough place. City-State of Shyta-na-Dobyo Mostly human This city is also known as the City of Laughter or the Wine Town. This town is ruled by the drunken followers of the Passionate One, and it is the source of all the best wines on Tellene. Elos Desert Most of this desert is covered in salt. There are some Dejy nomads living in it, who knows how. There is also a strange cult sacrificing living people to a great twenty-headed hydra, as well as fairies creating and dancing on water in the middle of the waste. The Great Fissure: Near the western limits of the desert there is a great crack in the shell of Tellene, and explorers reports that there are artifacts of an ancient culture in it. Metal Basin: There's a strange basin located in the southeast of the desert. When alloyed with iron, the metals found here prodces steel as good as mithril. There is a deadly curse on the area though. DuKem'p Swamp The lands in this area has been held by both the old Brandobian empire and the Kalamaran empire. At the moment they ar independent though. In this dangerous swamp there are lizard men, outlaws, black dragons and a mad alchemist making cold burning water. Free State of Ek'Gakel Cilorealon Mostly human This magnificent elven city lies in the midst of the beatiful Kalalali forest. Know foes of the elves have been able to enter here. Outside the cities and towns this land is inhabited by Dejy tribes. The state of Ek'Gakel has declared war on all Dejy people. The Dejy tribes are also at war with each other. Orcs have been seen in the woods. City of Miclenon Human Kingdom of Ek'Kasel This city at the eastern cape of the Whomdol Bay is a colony of Eldor, ruled by a governor. Mostly human This kingdom is allied with Korak and is at war with Norga-Krangrel since a long time. City-State of Dijishy Mostly human Bet Kasel: The capital of the kingdom, and home to the Alchemical College of Tellene. This state ha a greate influence on it's surrounding areas, as well as a great library making a a destination for many a scholar. The city is goverend by the Inevitable Order of Time, and it's rumoured that it has the support of a sphinx living nearby in the desert, Kingdom of Norga-Krangrel City-State of Ehzhimahn This kingdom is ruled by hobgoblins. The hobgoblins says that Blacksoul himself chooses their king. The Moonknights claims that the hobgoblins have hidden the Moon Charm of Diadolai somewhere in Norga-Krangrel. Mostly goblinoid Mostly human This city is also called the City of Spires because of it's many betiful spires rising to the sky. It is famous for it's glass blowers and their magnificent works. Tharakka Morass: This area is dangerous! City-State of P'Bapar Mostly human Mixed This is the country that stoppes the hobgoblins from Norga-Krangel from overrunning the area. They are constantly at war. Even the women are excellent fighters. Militocracy of Korak A magnificent city wich has become rich as it overlooks the only overland trading route between the Brandobian lands and the Kalamaran ones. Korem: The capital, also known as the City of Swords. Here one can find the very best mercenaries of Tellene, as well as the very best weapons (even enchanted weapons are made here). Orc's, goblins and such are not allowed in the city, and patrols drive them away from the countryside as well. Sliv Elenon Mountains City-State of Prompeldia Gold and silver exists in great easily accesible quantities here. Mixed This city is inhabited by thieves and murderers. Anyone is welcome to this place, and the law is some kind of joke. Lot's of trade, especially in slaves. The Known World 6 Players Stuff Lake Jorakk The Wild Lands This gigantic lake is so large that that the boats used here rivals ocean faring sisters in seaworthiness. There's not many such boats though as the areas round the alke are very sparesly populated. Lands of Skarrna Mostly human These lands are ruled by lots of local rulers, called Skryvalkers, wich also have the functions as battle lords in times of war. There is also a high council though. Ardarr-norr: The larges city of the Skarrns, famous for its pearls and therefore often called the City of Pearls. Lands of the Drhokker Mixed The Lands of the Drhokker is a confederation of towns and villages. Most people in this area lives along the Jorakk River and the Jendasha River. City-State of Narr-Rytarr In this land the very best war horses are trained and soled. Actually, there is no land in Tellene that has any kind of horse as good as the Drhokker horses, except maybe the Dejy horse clans. Professional rouges makes signifocant amount of mone using magic to smuggle horses out of the area. Mostly human Lands of Torakk An uncivilized area inhabited by tough but primitive people. Most people here are descendants of the Dejy and Fhokki. This was once a trading post, but has grown to a respactable size. The city collects tithes from traffic between Lake Jorakk and the cities at the Jorakk River. Mostly human The land here is populated by families that are organized for hunting reasons. The people of Torakk are hard and fearless warriors as well as good hunters. A mysterious religious leader has risen in the northwest of this area, and is massing a barbarian horde to attack the Kalamaran Empire. Deshada Mountains A narrow mountain range known for it's bad weather and gruesome topography. Good as a hiding place, but not much else. Principality of Paru'Bor Hadaf Highlands Mostly human This area servers as a grazing area for Dejy herdsmen who abandons it in the fall. There is a village here that is controled by a vampire who steals the villages most beatiful maiden every 10 years. The cities of this land is sort of antish, overstructured. Most religions are forbiddem, though thje Courts of Justice is the national church. Bet Regor: The capital city, and home to the Knights of Justice. Jenth Ridges Theocracy of Slen There are lot's of elves and halflings in the wooden parts of these hills, and lots of dwarves and gnomes in the eastern parts. Mostly human A cold, frozen and twisted land inhabited by religious lunatics. An enormous church of the Ministry of Misery. Jorakk Mountains There are some dwarves mining thise mountains. Kako-Gyr: A great temple to the Flaymaster. Kingdom of Draska The Queendom of Tharggy Dwarven A kingdom in the Byth Mountains. Allied with Shynabyth. This country is run by women, wich seems to work fine. Lot's of soldiers. The textiles from Tharggy are famous. Kingdom of Shynabyth Brynarr: The capital of Tharggy, famous for it's dye-makers and cutpurses. Mostly human Vrykarr Mountains A poor kingdom. At war with Paru'Bor and the twisted Theocracy of Slen. No worshipping of the known gods are permitted by the King of Shynabyth. There are many clans of gnomes living in the valleys of these mountains. The upper reaches are home to many giants. Kingdom of Thybaj Mixed There are humans, halflings, elves, dwarves and gnomes living together in this kingdom. Shyta-Thybaj: The capital city, a veritable fortress. Lake Adesh This lake is dotted with countless islets. Players Stuff 7 The Known World City-State of Zoa Reanaaria Bay Mixed This city is home the the largest market place of the bay. It's a big city where lot's of wonderful stuff may be bought or sold. It's ruled by a council wich often contains dwarves and elves. Counai Heights There are lots of giants in these mountains. Faunee Rise There are lot's of dwarves in these hills. They are extremely heavily armored and seems a lot less greedy than dwarves use to be. Khydoban Desert Mostly undead There are actually a few tribes of humans living in this dead waste. This desert is often called the Dead Lands because of the unproportionate number of undead found here. There might even be an entire kingdom of undead somewhere in the Dead Lands. City of the Dead: A deserted city somewhere in the dead lands. Deserted by the living, but inhabited by something. Ramataj Rock: A red 1600 feet high stone formation with a base circumference of eight miles filled with decorated caves. Kingdom of Nissen Mostly gnomish This area is quite peaceful and has a lot of trade. There are no big countries here, but there are a couple of city-states, and some dwarves. There are some monsters and pirates trafficking the sea and the bay. This kingdom concists of numerous gnomish and halfling communities. Masau Hills These hills are dangerous. There are cannibals and other bad things here. Arajyd Hills Lot's of kobolds live here. Lot's of Keepers of the Watercorner travel here as the clues leading to Wave Crusher's silver bag (wich was stolen by Risk) lies somewhere in the hills. Neebau Cliffs Gnomes, dwarves and orcs mines this area. City-State of Dynaj Sea of the Dead Mostly human Dangerous waters filled with strange whirlpools and ghost ships manned by undead crews. This is the nearest safe harbour for ships damaged in the Sea of the Dead. It's a frightening city as it's so close to the Dead Lands. The Congregation of the Dead is big here. Sotai Gagalia Headlands City-State of Geanavue There are gnomes and giants in this area. Rich in minerals but dangerous. Mixed Uursu Springs: These are hot springs with curative powers. A peaceful city-state, using a smaller town at the cost as a trading center. It is famous for the beatiful Giantish stoneworks sold here. Most peaople here are human, half-elven, and also dwarves and gnomes from the mountains. City-State of Shyff Mixed This is the home of Tellenes most talented shipbuilders. The population is mostly made up of humans and elves. City-State of Thygasha Mixed Often called the City of Dreams. This city is built on sacred ground, an ancient battlefield of the gods. Thank's to it's magical Silver Sand and it's exotic dreams of the night, Thygasha is a large and prosperous city. The Known World 8 Players Stuff Svowmahni: The eastern capital. A trading center. Svimohzia Svomawhom Forest: There are bandits and other foul people here. Ashoshani: The western capital. Lot's of lumber, and good ship builders. Miznoh Forest: There might be leves living here. Kingdom of Ul-Karg Mostly goblinoid This is a big hobgoblin kingdom, with three major tribes. They trade with the outside through Vrandol. Zamul Forest: This is one dieased and sick forest. Durbattum River: This river is even more diseased. Kingdom of Zazahni Mostly human This kingdom is divided into various dukedoms. The country is usually in a state of civil war, and the kings tend to have short lives. As if this wasntt enough, the north often skirmishes with Oszhvinmish, and the south battles with savages and creatures from the jungle. Most dukedoms puts high tariffs on just about anything. The country is famous for it's mercenaries and poisons. In the plains of these country a strange bottomless crevasse appeared without warning. A warm continent. The people here would have been rich if the continent had been more peaceful. Some scholars claims that all civilized people springs from this area. Awhom Forest There are a strange ancient civilization deep in this forest. Krimppatu Mountains City of Bronish These mountains are rich in gemstones and metals, but there are hobgoblins, dark elves and other foul creatures here. Mixed This city is neither rich nor poor. People seems contended, and there's no king. The city is protected by an enormous dragon living in the mountains. Menamo Hills There are humans, dwarves, halflings and gnomes farming and mining here. Colony of Vrandol Mewhi Marshes Mostly human There are lizard men living here. This is a Mendarn colony. The city of Vrandol is a center for slave trading and trading with hobgoblins. Mewzhano Bay These waters are diffcult to sail, but there are lot's of seal here. Confederacy of Ahznomahn Mostly human Lozhen Mountains This country is ruled by rich merchants, and it's main resource is trade. They have great ships, and trade with everyone. They put taxes and tolls on everything. Dangerous, volcanic peaks filled with rare stones. Parnor Hills Dashahn Mountains Beatiful breezy tropical hills abundant with birds and fruit. To bad they are in between Ul-Karg and Vrandol. This range is also called the Malachite Heights, possibly because it was the last bastion for the dark elves. Now there are dwarves, humans and gnomes mining here. Sea of Svimohzia Civilization ends here, and this sea is filled with monsters, sharks and such. Imomema Hills This plateau is claimed by Ozhvinmish and Zazahni. Straits of Svimohzia Kingdom of Meznamish There are dangrous winds and pirates in these waters. A great red dragon, eating people from both Pel Brolenon and Meznamish as well as passing ships lives on the spire of one of the Dragon's Teeth (the islets making up the straits). Mixed This is a quite rich country. Lot's of minerals, gems, fish and trade. There are mainly humans in the towns and cities, but lot's of dwarves, gnomes, elves, and some halflings lives in the country. The Dragon's Teeth: There are rocs living on these islets. Mizohr Woodlands: Lot's of gnomes and some elves. Tanezh Mountains Zhano Headlands: Lot's of gnomes and some dwarves tunnels here, and some humans herd and farm. Lot's of dwarves mining for iron here. Vohven Jungle Kingdom of Ozhvinmish Mostly human This jungle is often called the Emerald Sea. There are barabaric human tribes as well as other, more exotic, creatures living here. This land's got a long coast line, and is actually run as two separate states. The western state is ruled by the king, and the eastern by a steward. Arboretum of Clahz: The druid Clahz created strange carnivorous vegetable creatures at this place in the center of the jungle. Players Stuff 9 The Known World Whiven Marsh Merchant's Tongue There are big crocodiles and too many insects here. This language is a quite new conglomeration of the other common languages and is used throughout Tellene by merchant's mercenaries and other travelling people. It also defines a system of weights and measures used by the civilized countries. Zhano-Mewhi Bay There is black sand on the beaches here, and whales in the "winter". There is no special runes merchant's tongue, so at most times the runes known to the involved people are used if something needs to be written down. When writing something that should be readable in many countries or by many people sometimes all rune systems are used, or at least the Reanaarese as it is the most well known one among merchants. Organizations As for churches, the information here is common knowledge and views. Brandobian The Blackfoot Society Runes: Strange group of people trying to overthrow kings and get the peasants to rule the cities. Ancient: This text is written in ancient brandobian runes. This text is written in brandobian runes. This is of course the language spoken in the continent of Brandobia. It's a bit nasal but also quite beatiful. The Secret Network of the Blue Salamander Probably just a poular legend or rumor. Said to strive for world domaniation and to be ruled by mind flayers. Dejy A name that collects all the different languages of the different Dejy tribes. These languages can be as different as Brandobian and Fhhokki. There are no Dejy runes. Brotherhood of the Broken Chain Not very important, unless you're a slaver. Attacks slavers to steal and free their slaves. Elvish The Golden Alliance There are two elvish languages. Important trade organization, especially around Svimohzish Isle. Keeps pirates away in the straits. High Elvish A very beautiful language known only to the elves. Guardians of the Hidden Flame Low Elvish Was once the rebels fighting to overthrow the usurper of the throne of the Kalamaran Empire. As far as anyone know they don't exist any longer. Runes: This text is written in low elvish runes. A beatiful sounding language known to elves and some people of other races as well. Sentinels of the True Way A barbaric organization that hates all magic. Dwarvish Pirates Runes: Pirates... They are on all seas and slay all peaceful seagoers. Wild and cowardly are they. This is the simple language spoken by the Tellene dwarves. The most famous pirate port is Dowond-Brandel, an evil cesspool of sin and corruption at the south of Eldrose forest. Fhokki Runes: In two places, the Reanaaria Bay and the Straits of Svimohzia, there are even more pirates. This text is written in dwarvish runes. This text is written in fhokki runes. This is an old hard sounding language. It's spoken mainly by the people in the Wild Lands. Pirates of Reanaria Bay Hobgoblin These pirates are ogrinized, and seem to have good spies and connections. Runes: The most succesfull the tha pirates ruled by the Captains Table of Thirteen, wich is rumored to be ruled by an immortal wizard by the name of Kolaar Swiftstrike. Theese pirates have fortresses on islands just east of the Obakasek Jungle. This text is written in hobgoblin runes. The ugly guttural language used by the hobgoblins and sometimes by goblins as well. Kalamaran Pirates of the Straits of Svimohzia Runes: These pirates are dangous and vicious scum terrorizing seafarers from Brandobia to Ahznomahn. They are based on islands of the Pel Brolenese and Whimdol Bay coast. They trade slaves with Pel Brolenon. Ancient: This text is written in ancient kalamaran runes. This, of course, is the base language of the continent of Kalamar. There are two variants of this language though. High Kalamaran Languages This is the language spoken by nobles and other fine people of this continent. Here are the most common languages and runes in Tellene. The Known World This text is written in kalamaran runes. 10 Players Stuff Low Kalamaran The Courts of Justice, Truthseekers This is the bas of the language spoken by everyone but the nobility. There are numerous dialects of this language though, and some of them are mighty strange. The True, The Blind One, The Magnificent Magistrate, The Exalted Judge Justice, truth A scale balanced on the tip of a golden sword against a white background Place of worship: City temples (wich often contains courtrooms) White, gold Colors: Falcon Animal: Followers sets truth and justice above all. Priests Notes: allways intervene and tries to settle disputes. Follows all "just" laws. Focus: Symbol: Reanaarese Runes: This text is written in reanaarese runes. This language is spoken only by a some native people of the Reanaarese Bay. It's runes have been spread though because the people of the bay was early in adopting Merchant's. Svimohzish Runes: The Cathedral of Light, The Order of Light This text is written in svimohzish runes. The Eternal Lantern, The Shining One, Lord of Luminosity, radiance This is the old and strange language spoken in most of Svimohzia. Day, light, dawn Focus: Half of a shining sun Symbol: Place of worship: Open air temples in cities, altars in towns and villages White, yellow, gold Colors: Rooster Animal: Priests acts as sentries, keeping watch by night in Notes: cities and villages. Battles evil, especially ghosts, vampires and such. Churches Across the world are many religions with varying deities and beliefs. The majority of people and creatures believe in a deity and belong to a religion. Most religions have churches or other sanctuaries within their area of influence. The church can be a powerful force when decisions are made by governing leaders and play a vital role in keeping the common people united.
