CoreValue® Informational Brochure
We quantify intangibles.
We create software that quantifies the intangible assets hidden within a business––
assets that can increase a company’s value by millions––and which a business owner
can then use when transferring ownership, raising capital, or building for the future.
Spreadsheets lie
(or at least they don’t tell the whole truth)
We know your company’s true value. We’ll back you up.
Let’s face it. Spreadsheets look backwards. They paint a picture of what happened. But they are rarely
helpful when it comes time to measure the real value of a company looking forward. They cannot, for
instance, put a value on vital, but intangible aspects such as a company’s market share, its brand, its
ingenuity, its goodwill, or contracts with customers and vendors.
Now, however, CoreValue® Software can uncover millions of dollars of
hidden value.
How? Using sophisticated algorithms first developed at MIT, we are able
to quantify intangibles. That means we can turn your ability to
outmaneuver your competition, your long lease in a great location, your
intellectual property––all the intangible parts of your business––into real
value you can bank on.
Better still, the whole process takes about 90 minutes. You simply have
to log onto your computer and answer a few questions.

The CoreValue
Story
May we add
millions
of dollars
Why weinto
do what
we do
of value back
your
company?
It all started in Springfield, Vermont.
Using our software couldn’t be easier.
Simply log onto the web and answer questions.
Even though CoreValue® software is incredibly complex on the
inside, the actual way you interact with it is quite simple. The
software asks you questions.
The main questions relate to 18 core value drivers which are the
keys to a successful company. We’ll ask you about your brand,
your company’s ability to differentiate products in the market
place, your customer satisfaction, your margin advantage.
The end result?
In just 90 minutes, you’ll hold in your hands actionable reports
you can use to show potential buyers, investors, or financial
advisors the real value of your company.
More often than not, that means adding millions of dollars of value that has been lying
dormant all along.

Software 30 Years in the Making
Long before the internet, the founder of CoreValue® Software, Chuck Richards, set off
on a mission to solve a problem. Why did 80-90% of private businesses fail after they
transferred ownership, causing countless employees to lose their jobs, not to mention
the towns and cities who lost their vital employers? Chuck watched it happen while
growing up in the small town of Springfield, Vermont, and he wanted to know why.
While doing graduate work at MIT, Chuck began to look at business as an engine––
analyzing how the parts work together to generate outputs (revenue and profit).
Then he cast his lens on the problem of business transfer, examining whether transfer
failure rates could be improved at a macro-level with economic policy, government
assistance, or tax policy.
His conclusion? It had to be handled on a micro level -- fixing one business at a time.
At that moment, CoreValue was born.

Your business is an engine.
We measure the gears inside and calculate how well they function.
If you think of business as an engine, and that financial valuations measure the outputs––the revenue
and profit––CoreValue® quantifies the ‘gears’ inside the engine, and the ability of those gears to
work together to drive future revenue and
profit at/or above its current rate.
CoreValue® Rating
As you answer questions about your company,
CoreValue quantifies the durability,
sustainability, and efficiency of your business
engine. Your CoreValue Rating is scored on a
scale from 0-100. The higher your score, the
greater probability that your business will be
able to generate future revenue and profit at or
above its current rate.

How CoreValue® Works:
Step 1: From any computer, laptop, or tablet, you can access your CoreValue account. After providing some
basic information about your company, we walk you through 18 questions to get started, one question for each
of the 18 drivers, then dive a bit deeper into each. Typically, this takes less than 90 minutes
Step 2: After you complete level 2 of the workbook, you can review all your reports, tackle your task list,
dive deeper into the workbook (level 3), or start entering valuable company data in your company’s Vault. We
store everything for you, safely and securely.

CoreValue® can help you identify and fix problems.
Think of CoreValue as a ‘body scan’ for
your business, identifying weaknesses
and quantifying the value of shoring up
those weaknesses. CoreValue can even
suggest specific tasks for you to work
on, and will identify which tasks give
you ‘the biggest bang for your buck’.
There’s nothing like watching the value
of your business grow. It’s that simple.

CEO’s Dead Reckoning
For most of human history, sailors used the stars to
gauge their latitude -- north to south -- but lacked
the ability to know where they were east to west, as
soon as they lost sight of land.
Dead reckoning was an accurate term, because if
your reckoning was off, you might end up dead.
The problem was instantly solved when John
Harrison came up with an invention which could
measure longitude. And from then on, sailors
could safely navigate and explore the world.

CoreValue® is solving a centuries old business
problem. For hundreds of years, businesses have
relied almost solely on double entry bookkeeping
to navigate. CEO’s have known looking backwards
through the lens of finance to move forward was as
risky as dead reckoning. To successfully navigate
forward, the CEO must also measure the ability to
reliably produce future results. CoreValue provides
that forward-looking measure. CEO’s who know
both their CoreValue and their financials can more
safely navigate their companies to future success
and through transitions of ownership.
Enjoy building
your business again.
You know building a truly valuable
business takes time and hard work.
While there are no shortcuts, CoreValue®
Software can help.
That’s because we give you the language
to communicate to your senior
managers, board of directors, bank,
investors, or advisors all the intangible
aspects of your business and how well
they are functioning.
Alignment around objectives and
priorities is much simpler and effective
with the CoreValue framework and
quantifiable measures.

Strengthening communities, one business at a time.
Fact. Most private businesses can’t sell or transfer. And the
ones that can, have a failure rate near 90%. A larger concern is
that the majority of our private businesses today––over 7
million in the US and Canada––are owned by baby boomers
nearing retirement.
These businesses make up over 50% of our job base.
Here’s the good news. We can help fix the problem.
Today, our mission is to help private business owners
transfer their company successfully to the next generation of
owners, so employees, industries, and communities can
continue to thrive.
By providing greater transparency into the operations of a
business––its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to
improve––a business can be sold or transferred more easily
and successfully.

enterprise value, but will identify
your potential value and the drivers
