Montero THURSDAY, JUNE 2 17:30h Adidas originals (Parc del Fòrum) Alberto Montero made his debut in 2011 with “Claroscuro” and, after publishing two albums of elegant and simple folk, he just released “Arco Mediterráneo”, a more complete and complex work that raises his value as a privileged voice of the most unorthodox songwriting. www.albertomontero.bandcamp.com 4 PUNK Aliment FRIDAY, JUNE 3 17:30h Pitchfork (Parc del Fòrum) If their debut album, “Holy Slap”, was already a storm of smouldering punk and all-consuming garage dressed up as robust pop, their second album, “Silverback”, pushes it up a notch and takes that furious mixture of monolithic rock and vibrant punk with hints of the The Stooges to the next level. www.aliment.bandcamp.com 5 SYNTH-POP Bearoid WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 & SUNDAY JUNE 5 15:10h & 20:30h DayPro (CCCB) & Sala Teatre (CCCB) Experimentation and dance, organic textures and synthetic details come hand-in-hand in Bearoid, project that Daniel Belenguer Saborit has created as a vehicle for music research and his quest for independence. “Dawn At Home” is his second EP. www.bearoid.bandcamp.com 6 ELECTRONIC BeGun FRIDAY, JUNE 3 21:30h Bowers & Wilkins Sound System (Parc del Fòrum) beGun is globe trotting electronic music that travels from chill wave to bass music and from house to UK garage. Gunsal H. Moreno perfectly encapsulated it on “San Francisco”, his debut on Subterfuge, and which he took a step further on “AMMA”, where he enhances the recipe by embracing African sounds. www.begun.bandcamp.com 7 SURF-POP Big Summer FRIDAY, JUNE 3 12:30h Sala Teatre (CCCB) Big Summer is Vasco Batista’s musical vision. He has a marked inclination towards classical pop, crystalline melodies and deviations towards the most ethereal of surf. In 2013 the band released their first LP “Everything is going to be OK” and in 2014, the EP “Big Summer” came out. Their second album is forecast to come out in 2016. www.thebigsummer.bandcamp.com 8 PUNK-HARDCORE Cadena SUNDAY, JUNE 5 22:15h La [2] (Apolo) The Barcelona band Cadena starts from the best of punk and hardcore tradition of the Catalan capital, the one that shook up the underground scene of the eighties, to go on to shred it up in industrial explosions, waves of noise and injections of aggressive and visceral rock. The band has just signed to Boston Pizza Records with the 7” “0857”. www.bostonpizzarecords.bandcamp.com /album/0857-7-bpr033 9 ROCK Cala Vento FRIDAY, JUNE 3 13:00h Martini (CCCB) Joan Delgado and Aleix Turon are a boisterous duo with a surprising capacity to convey intensity and get the most out of pop, indie, punk and post-hardcore. In 2015 they were the winners of Converse Make Noise, and announced their signing to the Barcelona label BCore, on which they will soon release their debut album. www.calavento.bandcamp.com 10 SYNTH-POP Carla TUESDAY, MAY 31 & WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 20:00h & 13:30h Sala Apolo & DayPro (CCCB) CARLA is making a name for herself as a delicate creator of hazy synth-pop that astonishes from the very first listen. “Night Thoughts”, her much awaited debut album mastered by the British producer John Davis (Blur, FKA twigs, Haim, Lana del Rey), confirms CARLA as one of the great voices of national electronic pop. www.facebook.com/carlapophivern 11 ELECTRONIC Daniel Baughman SATURDAY, JUNE 4 21:30h Bowers & Wilkins Sound System (Parc del Fòrum) Daniel Baughman has always been totally at ease on the electronic music scene, alternating his DJ facet with the management of the Geradehaus party or residencies in clubs such as Low or Mundo. On the decks, he shows off the passion that has led him to crate dig around the world and to give impeccable techno, house, disco and italo sets. www.soundcloud.com/baughman 12 DJ-POP Daniel Gon WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 02:00h & 22:00h Barts As well as playing in bands such as Miau Miau, Without and The Handclappers, Daniel Gon is also a regular behind the decks in clubs and bars of Barcelona, where he mixes rock with whatever style comes to mind with no qualms whatsoever. This double facet is complemented by his collaboration with music magazines such as “Ruta 66” and on blogs like Gent Normal. www.soundcloud.com/daniel-gon 13 KRAUTROCK Die Katapult SATURDAY, JUNE 4 13:00h Martini (CCCB) Anna Fredriksson and Elena Comas are Die Katapult, a Barcelona-based Hispano-Swedish duo that sings in German and has found the perfect way to combine all their passions in what they have called European krautrock. A denomination in which there is room for influences that go from Kraftwerk to Hidrogenesse, from electro-punk to retro futurist synth-pop. www.soundcloud.com/die-katapult 14 DJ-POP Dj Coco SATURDAY, JUNE 4 04:00h Ray-ban (Parc del Fòrum) Jumping seamlessly from indie to electronic and from punk to electro-pop, Dj Coco has become more and more popular every year at Primavera Sound. The Barcelona DJ had gained a well-earned reputation with his residence at La [2] de Nitsa, his sessions at Nitsa Club and visits to Los Angeles and Helsinki. He has also played alongside David Holmes and Erol Alkan and has remixed Baxendale and Sidonie. www.soundcloud.com/djcoconitsa 15 POP Doble Pletina WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 17:00h Primavera (Parc del Fòrum) Doble Pletina have just finished mixing what will be their new album, the much awaited follow-up to “De lo concreto a lo general” with which they consolidated themselves as elegant and stylish pop miniaturists. Following in the footsteps of The Magnetic Fields and taking art house pop to the limits, the Barcelona band has not stopped gaining ground. www.doblepletina.bandcamp.com 16 SYNTH-POP El Último Vecino WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 18:00h Primavera (Parc del Fòrum) The project led by Gerard Alegre Dòria was one of the great revelations of 2013. Now, after playing on stages of Spain, Lithuania and Mexico and proving with the maxi single “Tu casa nueva” that they are not a one-record band, they are back with a new record. It is a good moment for dark anthems while defending the Joy Division-New Order sequence. www.elultimovecino.bandcamp.com 17 PSYCHEDELIC FOLK Esperit! WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 & SUNDAY, JUNE 5 14:20h & 17:20h DayPro (CCCB) & Sala Teatre (CCCB) If there is one artist who is able to break moulds and maneuver among all styles without losing face, it is, without a doubt, Mau Boada, the one-man-orchestra who performs under the moniker Esperit!. The musician will present “Heráclito” an album made together with the Valencia musician Fernando Junquera (Negro) at the festival. www.bankrobber.net/es/esperit 18 POP Inspira FRIDAY, JUNE 3 17:00h Ray-ban (Parc del Fòrum) With “Greta”, the Barcelona band Inspira, led by Jordi Lanuza, has definitively abandoned the circuit of cult bands to become one of the key names in contemporary Catalan pop. This fourth album represents a change in style with which the band moved towards a much clearer and compact sound, much warmer and more immediate. www.inspirabcn.com 19 FOLK Invisible Harvey SATURDAY, JUNE 4 12:30h Sala Teatre (CCCB) After alternating his musician facet with that of film director, television scriptwriter and music critic, Dimas Rodríguez strikes out on his own under the name of Invisible Harvey. On the poppier side of americana and always trying to get a smile out of folk, he has just presented “La puerta giratoria”, a delightful romantic anthem that is a taster of what will be his debut on El Genio Equivocado. elgenioequivocado.bandcamp.com/album/ la-puerta-giratoria-2 20 Programme per day Catalan Music at Primavera Sound Programme per day THUESDAY, MAY 31 Carla (synth-pop) Sala Apolo 20:00 h Carla (Synth-pop) DayPro (CCCB) 13:30 h Esperit! With a tour that has had her perform in Portugal, Holland, Luxembourg and Belgium, Serrat can consider herself one of the Catalan artists with the greatest international profile. www.soundcloud.com/joana-serrat 25 POP Manel SATURDAY, JUNE 4 18:55h H&M (Parc del Fòrum) After an intense period of concerts and becoming the first Catalan singing pop band to go to the top of the Spanish charts on two occasions, Manel released in April their fourth album “Jo Competeixo” that would have been their consolidation if it was not for the fact that nobody is contesting Manel’s status as the number 1 reference of new Catalan pop. www.manelweb.com 26 POP Nothing Places THURSDAY, JUNE 2 17:30h Pitchfork (Parc del Fòrum) Three years after making a name for himself with a self-titled debut of intricate melodies and adventurous spirit, Emilio Saiz has gained critical acclaim with “Tidal Love”, a record in which there are influences that go from Radiohead to Wilco passing through Alt-J and Dirty Projectors. www.nothingplaces.net 27 PSYCHEDELIA Pacosan SUNDAY, JUNE 5 16:00h Sala Teatre (CCCB) With their first record, the Catalans Pacosan managed to open a path between electronic and psychedelic music, influenced in equal measure by Animal Collective and by Caribou and taking the lysergic, abrasive and hypnotic properties of music to the limit. “My High” has led them to share stages with bands such as The Dodos, Glass Animals and Holy Fuck. www.pacosan.net 28 ELECTRONIC Pina THURSDAY, JUNE 2 21:45h Bowers & Wilkins Sound System (Parc del Fòrum) Pedro Pina has made electronic minimalism and digital creation his raison d’être. Paying special attention to the mechanical aspects of the composition and more and more focused on industrial rhythms and edgy IDM, Pina made his mark with “Hum”, his third record and he is back now to do it again with “Transit”. www.pina.bandcamp.com 29 GARAGE Power Burkas SUNDAY, JUNE 5 15:15h Martini (CCCB) Behind the provocative name Power Burkas hides one of the jewels of Vic - the latest musical powerhouse in the region- and it is an insolent band at that. A searing blast of electricity, rhythm and irreverent sense of humour to shake up the Catalan garage scene. The quartet is preparing its debut on Famèlic and BCore. www.laburkapoderteda.bandcamp.com 30 TRAP Pxxr Gvng SATURDAY, JUNE 4 20:05h Adidas originals (Parc del Fòrum) PXXR GVNG started to circulate on Internet in 2014, cruising through a fusion of bass music, autotune, rap and Latin electronic music like nobody else. After bombarding Youtube with videos they have started their discography assault with “Los pobres”, with which the Barcelona collective has gained even more ground as a rising viral phenomenon and ringleaders of Spanish trap. www.facebook.com/pxxrgvngofficial 31 ANTI-FOLK Ran Ran Ran SUNDAY, JUNE 5 14:30h Sala Teatre (CCCB) The Catalan label Bankrobber continues to increase its roster with the signing of Ran Ran Ran, a Barcelona duo formed by Ferran Baucells and Jordi Farreras. Its third record has put Ran Ran Ran in a prominent position on the Catalan folk scene, succeeding in looking towards americana without losing sight of its identity or lyrical depth. www.ranranran.bandcamp.com 32 PSYCHEDELIA Redthread SUNDAY, JUNE 5 13:00h Sala Teatre (CCCB) Claustrophobic darkness is Redthread’s natural habitat, the Barcelona trio that moves like fish in water in styles such as psychedelia, dark wave and progressive rock. The band debuted last year with the EP “Cartesian Jetstream”, which is full of rough melodies and complex psychedelia. www.shinkiro.bandcamp.com 34 FUNK The Handclappers SUNDAY, JUNE 5 19:00h Sala Teatre (CCCB) The Handclappers mix funk, post-punk and echo bands such as !!!, exploiting all the potential of sinuous bass and broken rhythms. The band has been singled out by several specialist media as one of the names to watch out for on the Barcelona underground scene. The trio brought its blend of garage, pop, surf and hard rock to the 2014 edition of the festival and are now coming back to present “Magic Shape”, which has just come out on El Segell del Primavera. www.thesaurs.bandcamp.com 36 NECRO-FOLK +++ SUNDAY, JUNE 5 23:00h La [2] (Apolo) Provocative, wild and fascinated by the esoteric, Marc O’Callaghan and Víctor Dvnkel, sing to sick and dying pop, which is why their music can not be anything but dark necro-folk on a visit to the territories of Death In June and Current 93. Last May they released “Octagrammaton”, a sinister treatment of failing folk, warring atmosphere and esoteric punk. www.cruzcruzcruz.bandcamp.com 37 SURF-POP Twin Drama SUNDAY, JUNE 5 13:45h Martini (CCCB) Twin Drama are Xavier Mohedano and Fernando Herrero, two youngsters from Barcelona who last summer decided to put everything into simple, highly energetic sunny pop. The band is now preparing their second album, a new immersion into shoegaze and the sound of C-86. www.facebook.com/univvers 39 GOTHIC FOLK Wind Atlas SUNDAY, JUNE 5 00:00h La [2] (Apolo) The Barcelona band Wind Atlas started to make a place for themselves on the darker side of folk with “The Not Found” and confirm their passion for gothic music on “Lingua Ignota”, their second album. Ambient, folk, dream pop, slowcore and shoegaze all come hand-in-hand in this project that, now as a quartet, is producing songs of a strange and intriguing beauty. www.windatlas.bandcamp.com 40 CATALAN MUSIC at Primavera Sound 2016 About Creative Catalonia Government of Catalonia - Creative Catalonia Creative Catalonia is the framework programme hosted by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies to foster the Catalan cultural and creative companies worldwide.
