Facades tell stories
Everything is just a facade – but what’s behind them? Facades exert a fascination
thanks to their tales of magic and customs, trades and guilds. See a new side to
Lucerne! Stroll around the houses with fresh eyes and discover the artists and their
works: from grisaille painting to American street art, from Seraphin Weingartner
and Hans Erni to “sprayfrei”, the town's anti-graffiti campaign. Various themes on
request.

Lucerne’s fortifications – the Musegg Wall
Our town was once protected by a stone wall featuring 30 towers. Ascend the
Musegg and hear about the building of the wall, today a national monument. Enjoy
the panoramic views and observe the mystical movement of the pendulum in the
Zytturm clock tower. Erected more than six centuries ago, the covered timber-clad
battlements are still a feature of Lucerne – silent witnesses to an eventful, troubled
past.

All about wine
Wine and Lucerne – a symbiosis. The Weinmarkt is a square in Lucerne where
local, Swiss and foreign wines used to be traded in earlier days. We go there, but
also to other places where the noble drop featured in the town. Tasting is also on
the agenda: in the late Gothic Liebenau-Haus we open a bottle or two of wine,
as well as of oil and vinegar, served alongside freshly baked bread and other
delicacies.

Monastery Tour in Engelberg-Titlis
The Benedictine Monastery of Engelberg has shaped the history of this beautiful
little mountain town since it was founded in 1120. The earliest cultural and religious
documentation dates back to the 12th century (scriptorium of Abbot Frowin in the
monastery library). In 1729 the monastery was destroyed by fire. The present-day
monastery was built between 1735 and 1740. From 1877 to 1914 the monastery
church was refurbished in various stages, marked by renovations that retained and
reflected its history. The heart and centre of the monastery is its Barock church.

waiting.
