Air flow in a duct is usually really turbulent; where you sense the airflow might not the right place 30 FEET OFF THE GROUND IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO MEASURE AIRFLOW! If you can’t measure it, how is anyone going to clean it? Then it can be calculated using Darcy's Equation for Pressure, which is: P2-P1 = (4fLv*v)/d*2*g where, P2 & P1 are pressures at two points in pipe, f = friction factor, L= length of pipe, v = velocity of fluid, d = diameter of pipe, g = gravity. WHAT'S WRONG HERE? SUPPLY SIDE VENTILATION These systems are designed to bring in air through a duct to the outside. When operating, they turn on the air handler, open a damper in the duct to outside. In some cases, they may turn on a remote fan. In almost all cases, they track fan time for heating and cooling and activate only when extra run time is needed to meet a ventilation standard. CONTROLLERS Two basic types: 1. Non-programmable (you do the math) o April Aire o Clock timers (supply side systems must use air handlers with EM if these systems are used) 2. Programmable (they do the math) o Smart thermostats o Honeywell W1850 o Tamarack fan controllers APRILAIRE CONTROLLER Does not keep track of air handler run time; must be used in connection with ECM air handler SET ENVIRONMENTAL OPERATING CONDITIONS These last two terminals must have either an outdoor temp sensor, or the blue “time only resistor”. They can also be connected with a jumper wire. If nothing connects the two terminals, the controller will not operate. FAN OFF will flash on the display. As above, set the number of minutes between 1 and 199. Press the Mode key one last time to return to normal operation or for the FR-V model, proceed to VENT settings. Note: In humid climates, the FAN OFF time should be at least 6 minutes. This avoids moisture re-evaporation from the coil and condensation in cold supply ducts. SETTING THE VENT TIMES Press the MODE key until VENT ON flashes Increase or decrease the number of minutes to open the outside air damper when the fan is on Press MODE again, VENT OFF will flash Increase or decrease the number of minutes to close the damper after the VENT ON time as elapsed THE HONEYWELL WHOLE HOUSE VENTILATION CONTROLLER W8150 DOES THE MATH!
