Support Kids Fishing days with money and personnel. Donated to the Ben Bendricks Scholarship Fund. Purchased 10 handicap piers for various lakes. Assisted financially with improvements of boat landings throughout Vilas and Oneida Counties. Financial support to Three Lakes Fish & Wildlife Improvement Assoc. Financial support to Trophy Lake Research Project by the DNR Financial support for stocking bluegills in the Eagle River Chain. Donated half the cost of publishing Muskies, Inc. History Book. Stocking of over $50,000 worth of muskies in area lakes Contributed financially to new park and dock on Yellow birch Lake. Hosted state and international functions. Host of the Spring Classic Muskie Tournament on the Eagle River Chain and the Fall Classic Muskie Tournament in Three Lakes. Sponsor the $1,000 Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc. Memorial Scholarship at the Natural Resources School at UW Stevens Point, WI. The Headwaters Chapter has spent over $1 million in the last several years on the above projects!! Fish Photos Spring Classic Directors list Officers & committees Boat for Sale Inside this issue: President’s Message March 2nd, 2016 I would like to thank Bob Jacobs, and the number of Directors who helped in our chapter’s booth at Wausau’s Musky Expo. From my prospective it looked like our big promotion for the Spring Classic, possibly had a positive effect on gaining 3 entries at the show, and showing a large interest in fishing it. We signed up a number of young kids for Youth Memberships to our chapter. Congratulations to Rich and Penny Reinert who have made this Expo one of the best in the state. Please plan on attending our annual DNR / Guides meeting on Wednesday April 6th. We once again will host our area Biologist at 7:00p.m., at the Eagle River Inn. They will give a report on what is going to happen in our area this year and answer our questions. This is a very informative meeting. It is open to all who would like to attend. Our regular meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. sharp. Region 2 meeting was held Saturday, February 13 at the Radisson in Menominee Falls at 2:00 pm. Some of the items that were discussed: moving various chapters to different regions so it will be closer for them to attend the meetings, meetings for next year will include an October meeting to be Go to Meeting, January a Go to Meeting, and in March a Face to Face meeting, the Junior Program will do a trial program for free membership to youth for two years, to include an auto renewal with check box, the discontinuance of Keyes and the use of Tutenberg. Instead of Keyes, they will place an ad in the Rollie & Helen’s Musky catalog and Joe Bucher sponsorship. The Membership/Marketing committee will be split into two separate entities. The 2016 Budget was passed. A financial statement will be available at each Executive meeting. Alliance Report: Jim Heffner reminded President Jacobs the tickets for the Ranger Boat for the Alliance can be picked up at the Wausau Musky Expo. Membership: Jim Chamberlin reported we have 343 member, with 1 new membership added tonight for a total of 344. We had 1 drop, but this one will be renewed. Fish Report: Dale Peterson reported 790 fish were registered. This is down from 2015. We had several members who are now registering their fish with another chapter or have stopped registering them. Dale did the drawing for the rod and reel or jacket for registered fish - number 474 was drawn - Winner is Margie Hollnagel with a 40 ¾” fish. As long as we were drawing, President Bill Jacobs had the drawing for the New Member and Sponsor rod and reels or jacket. New Member - -Winner is Collin Crawford; Sponsor - Winner is Jim Heffner. Newsletter Report: Dale Peterson reported information about the Spring Banquet, Committee Members and Directors lists are in the March newsletter. Ready to go. 3 meeting before the regular meeting, all is going well. We will meet next Wednesday, March 9th at 6 pm at the Eagle River Inn to take pictures to put in the newspaper displaying some of the prizes available at the Banquet. Remember to wear your white shirts. The Main Door prize is $500 cash. The last prize will be a rod. Other items at the Banquet nclude a crossbow, an 8’6” Tom White’s custom rod, and many other fantastic raffles. Joe also reported on the award winners: Mr. and Mrs. Musky - Elmer and Diane Jensen; President’s Award - Jim Rechlitz; Artist Award - Terry Egland Spring Classic Report: Scott Samuels sent a report via e-mail to Dan Pudlo. 27 teams are registered for the Spring Classic. This is ahead of pace of last year. The $100 deposit seems to be getting in more applicants earlier. Thank you Glenn Matula for the idea. Carol Heffner suggested we have 3 registration lines this year due to the amount of teams paying their balances on Friday night. We can divide the teams up alphabetically. Jay Hollnagel is in charge of raffle tables. If you are able to help run a table, please contact Jay. Scott is also looking for two people in the mornings to set up the coffee/donuts. Enter in a drawing at the Wausau Musky Expo for a chance to win a free entry into the Spring Classic. Winner will be drawn after the show. Muskies Inc. Magazine Report: President Jacobs stated the Spring Classic information is located in two places in the magazine. Discussion on how quite a few months the magazine did not have any report about our Chapter. Fred Brogle will coordinate with Scott to assist in writing articles for the magazine. Spring Sports Show Report: Wausau Musky Expo March 4th, 5th, and 6th Our Chapter will have a booth at the show. People will be able to sign up for Youth Membership, for the Spring Classic, and for regular membership. Sweatshirts and t-shirts will be for sale. The Wisconsin Musky Chapter meeting will be held Saturday morning. Northern Waters Challunge October 1st We are hosting the Northern Waters Challunge this year. Fred is looking for more people to help out with the Northern Waters Challunge. Members Outings: LOTW Sept 3rd to 10th Old Business: President Bill Jacobs talked with Greg Manske, DNR from the Forest County. They may be planting muskies in Metonga in Crandon. There will be a Public Hearing on March 23 at 6 pm at the Correspondence: President Bill Jacobs shared a thank you letter from Crandon High School to discuss the planting of muskies in Metonga. In UW Stevens Point for the Scholarship money. Headwaters is now an 2010 - 2013 Native Americans seined out bullheads. Muskies love bullHonorary Member of Main for UW Stevens Point. We all agreed - No thanks! New Business: Jim Heffner stated UW Stevens Point and the DNR are doing a Juvenile Musky tracking study. Last year they studied Stella Lake Youth Report: Jim Heffner reported he is looking for instructors for the in Oneida County and Upper Gresham in Vilas County. A friend of mine wanted to know if I had any extra musky rods and reels for sale. I checked and found like 10 rods and 6 reels that i no longer use. i’M sure a lot of you are in the saMe boat. Lots of great outings coming up this year so check out the calendar on P. 8 and plan on attending some of them. A great time and plenty of fish stories. Spring conservation hearings are coming up in April so make sure to attend. All club outing are from 7am-5pm,fish any lake you like and be at the host site to register fish caught by 6pm. Open to all members and their guests, guests pay $5 for the lunch. Jan. 1st is the start of the Members Only Fishing Contest. If you go to a state that has year round musky fishing and catch a fish it counts in our club’s contest. April 2nd is our Annual Banquet at the Eagle River Inn. This is one of our biggest fund raisers of the year so plan on attending and helping out with the Headwaters Chapter’s projects for 2016. June 11th & 12th is the 36th Annual Spring Classic Musky Tournament held on the Eagle River Chain. Again another big fund raiser for the chapter. Working on the details, but headquarters may be the Eagle River Inn again. This year we had 58 people at the dinner at Oneida Village Inn in Three Lakes. Lots of prizes and good food. Big fish for the outing was 44” caught by Bob Cosgrove, his first musky ever.
