Canticle of Zechariah
Rev. Susasn Allen Grady
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who has come to set the chosen people free.
The Lord has raised up for us a mighty Savior from the house of David.
Through the holy prophets, God promised of old to save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us;
to show mercy to our forebears and to remember the holy covenant.
This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship without fear,
holy and righteous in the Lord’s sight, all the days of our life.
And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way,
to give God’s people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Lighting of the Advent Wreath - The Hope Candle
(8:30) Bates/Wieder Family
(11:00) Edwards/Hancock Family
We light this candle, symbolic of the hope of Christ, which provides a window for our soul.
Purge from our hearts fear that denies your promised future for us. Open our minds to the
possibilities of what You might do for us in this holiest of seasons.
Congregational Response
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel come to thee, O Israel.
A Morning Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer
Rev. Allen Grady
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Yearning
Chancel Choir
Craig Courtney
There is a yearning in hearts weighed down by ancient grief and centuries of sorrow.
There is a yearning in hearts that in the darkness hide and in the shade of death abide,
a yearning for tomorrow. There is a yearning for the promised One, the firstborn of creation.
There is yearning for the Lord who visited His own, and by His death for sin atoned, to bring to us
salvation. There is a yearning that fills the hearts of those who wait the day of His appearing.
There is a yearning when all our sorrows are erased, and we shall see the One who placed
within our hearts a yearning. Emmanuel, within our hearts, the yearning.
Scripture
Luke 1:5-20
The Word of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

Advent Offering
for Missions
This Sunday, November 29, is the first
Sunday of Advent, a season when we prepare
ourselves spiritually for the coming of the
Christ Child at Christmas. One of the ways
that many people observe this season is by
giving to someone in need. A wonderful
way to do that is through the Oak Grove
Advent Offering. Each year our Advent
Offering funds mission ministries that meet the real needs of people. From feeding
children at Montclair Elementary School to caring for low income senior adults at Mountain View Personal Care Home, your Advent offering makes a difference!
UMW Christmas Tea
The United Methodist Women’s Annual
Christmas Tea and Installation of Officers
will be held on December 2, 2015 at 11
a.m. in the Sanctuary. Following this
service we will adjourn to the Parlor for
light refreshments and fellowship. All
women of the church are invited to attend.
Please use the special Advent offering envelope that was mailed or pick one up at church.
Checks should be made payable to Oak Grove UMC and marked “Advent Offering.” You
can also give online (www.oakgroveumc.org). Thank you for your generosity.
Sunday, November 29
4 p.m. Sanctuary
Christmas is a time of joy, but
sometimes recent loss, life
struggles, or memories from the
past can cloud the joy of the
season. Our Service of Hope
offers people the opportunity to
be honest about the difficult
feelings while claiming the hope
we have in the Christ of Christmas. This service is open to the
community and we encourage
you to invite friends and family
to attend with you.

education. Write your check to the Oak Grove

NHUMW School on the memo line. Thank you
for your consideration in giving a full year
scholarship to a deserving and grateful student.
