Similarly, when you select [Gray] or [White], an adjustment is made so that it should be gray or white respectively. If you click [Auto], the color is determined automatically based on the brightness of the obtained color. For example, the color is adjusted to be white when a bright color is obtained. EDIUS - User Guide 79 Editing 7 Click the part to be corrected in the Recorder. The color is automatically corrected. You can also adjust the color using the points of the color wheel, or the sliders of saturation and contrast. Example: To correct a color-casted white table Click [White] in the color picker, and click a point on the table in the image. 8 Click [OK]. 1 Note • Colors appear differently depending on the monitor. Therefore, when exact color adjustment is necessary, output the video to the monitor on which the final video is screened. • If the completed video is broadcasted on TV, adjust the colors within the range of the regulations. • If you check [Safe Color] in [Color Balance] or [Color Wheel] of color correction, the upper or lower limit of brightness and color can be adjusted within a certain range. Transition and Clip Margin 0 Transition is an effect that overlays images of 2 adjacent clips and gradually shifts to the next scene. For the overlaying operations, you can use either of the extend mode or fix mode. For details on the extend mode/fix mode, see the Reference Manual. Clip Margin Existence If there is no clip margin, transition cannot be applied in the extend mode (except for the mixer part). If clips do not have margins, triangle marks are added at the edges of the clips. If clips have margins, they are displayed as in the following figure. GPUfx Transition 0 High quality and complex transitions that use the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) can be set. A large number of presets are included in the [GPU] effect folder. If you want to set parameters to create a new transition, they can be set and applied from the [Advanced] folder. The setting dialog box of each transition contains [Design] settings to adjust the motion, lighting, etc. and [Time] settings to specify a key frame for changing the motion along the time axis. These settings can be used to apply complex motion and effects. 82 EDIUS - User Guide Effect To display GPUfx transition, click the [Transitions] tree in the folder view of the [Effect] palette, and click the [GPU] tree. 1 Note • GPUfx cannot be used if video memory on your PC is smaller than 256 MB. You can export projects in a variety of file formats, to disc media such as DVD or BD, and to tape media such as HDV and DV devices. Before Exporting Before Exporting Checking/Adjusting Brightness and Color Even a video finely displayed on a PC monitor may cause problems like highlight/shadow detail loss when actually displayed on a TV monitor. Although the best solution is to edit the video in an environment that the final video is screened while checking the screening regulations, in many cases, editing must be performed without such environment and regulation check means. In such cases, use the vector scope or waveform to check the brightness and colors, and perform the editing process. Checking Brightness and Color Vector scope and waveform can monitor the brightness and colors, allowing fine adjustment of detailed parts that cannot be seen by eyes. 1 Move the timeline cursor and display the image to check the color data on the Recorder. 2 Click [Toggle Vector Scope/Waveform Display] on the timeline. The [Vector Scope/Waveform] dialog box appears. (1) (2) (3) (1) Information area Display the coordinate values and color information of the position where the mouse cursor on the preview window is placed. (2) Vector scope Display color distribution of the image shown in the preview window. The circle represents the color circle, and the distance from the center represents the saturation. (3) Waveform Display chroma and luminance levels of the image on the preview window. No problem will occur when the IRE is within 0 to 100. 1 Note • Displaying the vector scope/waveform increases the CPU load. Display it only when necessary. Adjusting Brightness and Color 1 In the folder view of the [Effect] palette, click the [Video Filter] tree. 2 Click [Color Correction]. EDIUS - User Guide 97 Outputting Work 3 Drag and drop [Color Balance] to the clip (video part) on the timeline. 4 Select [Color Balance] in the [Information] palette, and click [Configure]. The [Color Balance] dialog box appears. 5 Check [Safe Color]. Make an automatic adjustment to keep the video signal within the YUV color space. 6 Click [OK]. 3 • Although safe color clips a range of luma (luminance) 16-235 and chroma 16-240, and the chroma is not automatically adjusted within the safe area, it is calculated so that luma/chroma will be within IRE0-100. Adjusting Audio Volume Use the normalization function to adjust the entire audio volume and use the V-mute function to reduce momentary noise. Normalizing Audio of Multiple Clips Normalization function is useful to perform entire volume adjustment. Set a reference level of audio and adjust the volume of the entire video at one time. When normalization is applied to multiple clips, the volume level is adjusted to be appropriate for each clip. 1 Select the clips to be normalized. 2 Click [Clip] on the menu bar, and click [Normalize]. The [Normalize] dialog box appears. 3 Enter the audio level to be used as reference, and click [OK]. The initial level setting will be the [Audio reference level] in the project setting. When normalization is applied, an orange line will be displayed in the area below the audio part of the clip. 98 EDIUS - User Guide Before Exporting Reducing Momentary Noise (V-mute Function) Fade in or fade out before and after a specified point to make noise less conspicuous. 1 Click the expand button for the audio on the track panel. The track expands and the rubber band and the waveform are displayed. 2 Check the noise position in the waveform. You can detect noise, etc. by reviewing the waveform range and the sound actually being played back. 3 Move the timeline cursor to a position where the volume is to be zero. Confirm the shape of the waveform display, and adjust the position of the timeline cursor. 4 Click on the track panel on which the clip to be V-muted is placed. 5 Right-click on the clip on which V-mute is to be applied, and click [V-Mute].
