St. Louis Parrot Head Dispatch The Official Newsletter of STLPHC July/August 2016 The St. Louis Parrot Head Club is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide a variety of social activities and assist in community and environmental concerns for people who are interested in the music and writings of Jimmy Buffett and the tropical lifestyle he personifies. Happy Birthday to those who are celebrating another trip around the sun in July and August 2 "Party with a Purpose" for Project Backpack Once again, the generosity of our membership, at our annual Beach Party, replenished some much needed items in Project Backpack's warehouse. You can see how the donations were filling up the back of Jane Ellen's vehicle. We are proud to present nearly $900 in items to Project Backpack! Email from Project Backpack: What a fantastic donation you brought to the warehouse on Thursday. The Parrotheads outdid themselves with this wonderful gift for the children we serve. Never have I seen a donation with such a large number of diapers and sanitary items. Toothbrushes and anti-bacterial soap and hand sanitizer were included too. These are items that we use in each of our backpacks and you had them for all of the children from infant to teen. We usually receive these items in limited numbers as most folks really would rather buy cute and unusual and not the boring things. But your group with this novel idea for a drive have lifted our spirits as we now have a supply of toiletries which will last for a few months. Can't thank you enough for this surprise donation(we thought it would come in September as usual) and for filling a need that is rarely met by donation. Really appreciate your continued support and on behalf of myself and the Project Backpack Board---Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! 2016 Walk To End Alzheimer’s, September 10 Mark your calendar and join the team http://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=9111&pg=team&team_id=332844 MoDOT Adopt-A-Highway We have been approved to participate in this program! Our area will be on Highway 141 just north of Highway 30 (Gravois). MoDOT provides signs, trash bags, safety vests, safety DVD, caution flags and even pick up the filled bags. Randy Schwandner will chair this endeavor. The signs are now visible on our area on 141. Look for updates when the clean-ups will begin. 3 While the interns at St Patrick Center will be busy counting the donations that overflowed from the boat, I am excited to announce that we collected $495.26! Considering that we were asking for shopping list items, the generosity of folks to raise that amount beyond what was in the boat is truly amazing!! As soon as I receive the report from the interns, I’ll add it here. By the way, Katie, from St Patrick Center, indicated that our $495.26 is more than some locations collect in 2 “Pot O” Gold” days. We should be proud of ourselves!! 4 Club Events JULY July 7-10--Laid Back Attack July 11-Leather & Leis --CIPHC--Click Here for details July 16--STLPHC Tropical Night with the Grizzlies (tentative) AUGUST August 5--Brittany Kingery at Mike and Robin’s August ? There are only 86 DAYS left until registration ends for the 25th Annual Meeting of the Minds 2016!! Remember we close our registration for MOTM at 3,500 or September 15th whichever comes first! Don’t get left out! Register NOW! http://www.phip.com/motmregistration The 2016 MOTM Schedule Update I wanted to mention one segment from MOTM 2016 this month that should be some real PHun. The Beachside Album hour as always will feature a Jimmy Buffett album from beginning to end with as many Coral Reefers as we can put on the stage. The core band this year will be Ramajay Intercoastal with lots of Coral Reefer Band support. Coral Reefer Alumni Keith Sykes will be joining the band for the album which he played and wrote the two songs “The Coast of Marseille” and “The Last Line.” The album for the 25th annual Meeting of the Minds is the 1978 classic “Son of a Son of a Sailor.” I also want to give Keith a shout-out for his most recent release “Songs From a Little Beach Town.” http://keithsykes. com/ He just hit the top of the chart last week with this single. I think everyone should go hit the “buy” button on this one. Remember Keith will be happy to shake your hand and sign all your cds at MOTM 2016! Don’t miss Keith all over the MOTM stages. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kbl3txU_xw Also don’t forget Ramajay is releasing their brand new CD JAMBOULÉ just before MOTM 2016! I also wanted to mention as I always do that things will be added to the schedule even the day of the show. Since I last emailed an update there has been an addition to Friday night at MOTM 2016! Jerry Diaz will again be leading the Midnight Jam on the Beach at 11:30! Stand by to see some of your favorite artists that could not fit and a few who could fit into our tightly-packed MOTM schedule. This all follows “THE YOUNG GUNS of TROP ROCK” which will be quite a show in itself. I will embellish the young guns in an upcoming email but you want to be there for the evening! On the beach at the Casa Marina! I’m not through with schedule updates so stand by for further updates! Meeting of the Minds Discounts for PARROT HEADS!!!
