Miles Maiden, the founder of SteriPEN® and a dedicated outdoorsman, thought that
there were better ways than filters or chemicals to purify water in the wild. After years
of research, the first SteriPEN® was sold in 1991 and in 2001 TIME Magazine named the

How it works
SteriPEN® purifiers use shortwave UV light to disinfect water. The UV light disrupts the DNA of microbes in
seconds. Without intact DNA, microbes cannot reproduce to make you sick.

These numbers change with the type (quality) of CR123 battery being
used. Batteries with higher nominal voltages (4.2V) will deliver 50 doses
or more quite easily and batteries with a nominal voltage of just 3.0V
will yield at least 38-40 one-litre doses.
Alkaline & NiCd are not supported.
Batteries perform best when kept warm (above 4°C).
