Water
Springs, streams, creeks, reservoirs and dams provide plenty of watering holes
throughout the ranch. The Little Medicine Bow River is a tributary that starts in the
Laramie Range and flows south across the north end of the ranch to join the
Medicine Bow River near Medicine Bow, Wyoming.
Natural wetlands provide
riparian stream side habitat as well as stopover habitat for the traditional migration of
ducks and geese.

Sub-irrigated meadows provide profitable grazing, achieving gains of up to two pounds
per day. At the north end of the ranch along the Little Medicine River there are 285
irrigated meadow acres and a storage reservoir that holds approximately 135 acre feet
of water that irrigates an additional 150 acres of pasture and hay land.

Improvements
A barn and good set of working corrals with chutes for cattle and sheep have been
built in a fenced half section along the Little Medicine Bow River. There is another
section and a half with a permanent spring that is fenced for pasture on the east side
of the ranch. A slab stockade offers shelter and is located near Belmore Springs. The
balance of the ranch is fenced in four pastures with some fence work to be done.
Ranch headquarters consist of two mobile homes, one single wide and one double
wide and two smaller barns. Utilities include electricity and a 1,000 gallon propane
tank. Though a remote and very private ranch it is very accessible by state highways
and county roads.

Relics
Land as far as you can see, not
undiscovered, but it is undisturbed.
Scattered ranch remnants can make you
stop and think about a cowboy’s day. Out
here you can let your mind wander. As
daylight streams through the roofs and the
chinking crumbles, these sturdy walls of the
old cabins continue brace against the
elements as they have for decades. Still in
salvageable condition these cabins could be
moved or reconstructed and used for
camping, guest houses or a mid-day stop
while riding cross country.
Scattered throughout the west atop of
knobs and buttes lonely sheepherders, would
gather flat shale stones and stack them
without mortar creating landmarks. This
Spanish tradition marked herd boundaries
and waterholes or often indicated distance
and direction. These stone pillars became
silent companions for the herdsman or
passersby. They were commonly referred to
as "Stone Johnny" or "Rock Boy". A
monument was also never complete or
finished.
Each dedicated herder that
stopped to
let the sheep graze would add a few more
stones to pass the time.
The "Medicine Bow" mountains and river
were named for the "good" that the
Arapahoe and Cheyenne Native American
tribes found in the land and the water. If
something had a good purpose than it was
considered "good medicine", many good
bows were made from findings in the area.
