Restaurants
For those arriving early or staying longer although this area is not world renowned for its ‘haute cuisine’ there are a
few restaurants that serve good to excellent food. Should anyone wish I’m happy to arrange a group meal on the
Saturday evening, please let me know numbers etc. at least 3 weeks in advance.


Le Compte de Marche, Rue St. Gervais (Excellent food, excellent & accommodating chef, reasonable pricing)
Le Coq D’or, Place du Chateau (Good food)
Le Jonzacaise, Place du Chateau (Bistro type wholesome food, nice outside dining area if good weather, good
value)
Pinocchio Pizzeria, Rues des Carmes. (Good pizzas, very ‘rustic’ setting, cheap & cheerful)
Vieux Logis, Clam, Part of the hotel. (Generally great food, average service)
Le Base Jonzac, Base de Loisirs Jonzac. (Wholesome, rustic food, mostly BBQ or fish, HUGE portions, excellent
value)
In addition to all of the above, there are quite a few bars etc. around the town. I’ve marked the main restaurants on a
map at the back of the briefing.
Taxis :
We will do what we can to ferry visitors to/from hotels etc. over the weekend however, there may be times when a
taxi is the only option.

Airfields:
Primary: Jonzac, LFCJ / Alternate: Pons-Avy, LFCP (no instrument facilities at either)
Remember, if you are arriving on Friday (or
any weekday) that both airfields are within
the Cognac zone and the R49 military zones
will most likely be active.
Historically I’ve found Cognac ATC quite
accommodating and they will often clear
you at a sensible height through the zone
providing they are not busy – it never hurts
to ask!
If you are arriving from outside of France,
remember that there are no customs
facilities at either airfield. Cherbourg, Le
Havre, Le Mans, Poitiers & La Rochelle all
have customs facilities and are en-route.

Fuel :
Although AVGAS 100LL is available at both airfields it pays to be prepared – if you will need fuel, please let me know
approx. 4 weeks in advance so that I can request enough! There is no UL91 or MOGAS available. There are no credit
card facilities (although Jonzac does accept TOTAL charge cards). I can pay by cheque for anyone who does not want
to carry large amounts of cash and happily be reimbursed via bank transfer (in either EUR or GBP). AVGAS is currently
approx. 1.75€/£1.25 litre inc. tax (as per Nov 2015). A good AVGAS price indicator for France is available here:
http://www.total.fr/carburants/les-carburants-aviation/carte-air-total.html
Plates:
The plates for both airfields are attached below. Further details can be found on the DGAC’s English website:
https://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/html/frameset_VFR_uk.htm
Language:
Both fields are French only for the radio calls but don’t worry it’s not difficult and all en-route ATC is in English. I’ve
attached a few basic phrases you will hear and can use on arrival/departure below; worst case if it all gets too much
announce the airfield name clearly beginning and end of each transmission then do the rest in English, you’ll (hopefully)
not be shot down 
Aircraft call sign phonetics remain the same in either language.

French overhead join:
Be aware that French
overhead joins are a little
different
from
those
practiced in the UK and
don’t generally involve
descending
on
the
deadside. The attached is a
rough guide, if you are in
any doubt, google “French
overhead join” for heaps of
info on various forums etc.
Finally,
these
are
uncontrolled strips, so
please also be on the
lookout for pilots who
ignore this, the radio or any
know ‘standard’ form of
join and just do as they
please; trust me, they are
out there!!
