Established by George Cadbury in 1913, Bournville College (then known as
Bournville Day Continuation School), was intended ‘to provide young people
with a sound education which will fit them to meet the demands of life and
work in the best possible way.’

Bournville College
BA/BSc (Hons)
A Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree is a level 6 qualification. Students who successfully
complete a BA or BSc course can progress on to Postgraduate (Level 7) study, to gain additional qualifications such as
a Master of Arts or Sciences. This can be delivered as a top-up degree for students who have completed level 4 and 5.
Duration: Usually 3 Years, Full Time, up to 6 Years Part Time. Top-up 1 year.
Foundation Degree (FdA & FdSC)
A Foundation Degree allows you to focus on a particular job or profession. Available in a wide variety of
vocational subjects, Foundation Degrees have been developed specifically to provide students with appropriate skills,
knowledge and understanding, for academic achievement and success in the workplace. Foundation Degrees combine
academic study with work-place learning and are the equivalent of 2 thirds of a BA or BSc Degree. Students who
successfully complete a Foundation Degree can usually top up to a BA or BSc Hons with an additional 1 year of study.
Duration: 2 Years, Full Time, 3 Years Part Time

also include a number of optional modules, which means you can tailor your learning
experience according to your individual interests and ambitions.

Professional Qualifications
Higher National Diploma (HND)
A HND is a Level 5 qualification that is the equivalent to the second year of a degree. For those who wish to continue
their studies, a HND can be converted into a degree course (BA/BSc) with additional study. Students who have
successfully completed a HND can usually enter directly on to the third year of a degree course. HND courses are
work-related qualifications that will provide you with a mix of academic and practical skills. You’ll be assessed through
a range of assignments, practical tasks and projects.

Entry Requirements: Applicants should have successfully completed a Level 3 programme of study and are also
required to have a Level 2 qualification (i.e. Grade C or above) in English and Maths.
Higher National Certificate (HNC)
A HNC is a Level 4 qualification and is the equivalent to the first year of a Degree. While studying a HNC, you’ll enjoy
a mix of academic and practical ‘hands-on’ learning that will prepare you for work and can be topped up to a HND
qualification. You’ll be assessed through a range of assignments, practical tasks and projects.

without these qualifications, we also offer a range of Pre-Access courses that contain GCSE Maths and English.
Access to Higher Education
The equivalent to 2 A Levels, an Access course is a great route in to Higher Education for those who don’t have
the formal qualifications or experience to enter directly on to a HE course. While studying an Access course,
you’ll develop the study skills and knowledge to underpin learning at HE level.
Duration: 1 Year, Full Time
Entry Requirements: Applicants should typically have GCSE English or Maths at grade C or above. For those
without these qualifications, we also offer a range of Pre-Access courses that contain GCSE Maths and English.
There are a broad range of professional qualifications on offer to students,
each of which help develop specialist skills and knowledge in your area of expertise
or interest. Many of these qualifications facilitate progression on to degree courses
or other sector specific professional qualifications. Entry requirements and course

Contemporary Art Practice
Film & Television Production Technology
The content of the foundation degree delivered in partnership with Staffordshire University
has theory elements but is heavily practical. It provides students with high level technical
creative skills backed-up by real film commissions for real clients. Working with professional
companies both individually and in groups, students will be able to complete productions in the
professional environment and gain valuable apprenticeship-style experience as well as specific
technical knowledge. Students will be supported by tutors through a thorough reflective skills
programme and also via an industry mentor. The Award will give students a feel for what it is
really like to work in the dynamic and exciting world of film and television, and provide them
with the skills, connections and showreel to break into the industry.
The course is designed to allow the transfer of skills to a real working environment, and you’ll
have the opportunity to work closely with industry through practical work, live briefs,
industry practice and independent projects. You’ll explore a range of practical techniques
including drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, surface pattern, photography and
digital media. To enable deeper understanding you will also delve into the background of
history of design, such as the circumstances surrounding artistic development within
modules including: Creative and Social Context and Professional and Contextual Studies.

This nationally recognised qualification is suitable for anyone working or wanting to work to
improve the mental health and psychological well-being of people and to work with their families
and carers in a range of health and social care settings.
Duration
The course has a strong vocational focus and prepares you for work to support and promote
mental health and well-being in health and social care, both statutory and non-statutory.
The Foundation Degree develops knowledge and skills that employers are looking for across the
spectrum of mental health services. It is a recognised qualification, that contributes to personal

The Early Years Foundation Degree aims to provide a child-centred approach and framework
for academic and professional skills development. Thinking skills, including the ability to reflect
and analyse, are facilitated through the students developing knowledge, understanding and
experience. In practice students are expected to develop their personal and professional
dispositions within a framework that supports inclusion and diversity. Modules include:
Childhood, Children and Learning Theory to Practice; Safeguarding Children in Early Years;
Developing Positive Learning Environments; Collaborative Work with Parents and Others;
Exploring Strategies for Practice; Understanding Leading and Managing in the Early Years
Settings and many more.
This programme will provide you with a thorough preparation for undertaking certain roles
in teaching, facilitating learning or training and will offer you the opportunity to develop your
practice through developmental reflection and theoretical perspectives. Ideal for those who
train, teach or assess others on a regular basis or who have similar roles within voluntary or
community activity, the programme incorporates the 2013 national standards for teachers in
the education and training sector. You’ll enjoy a range of classroom activities, discussions and
presentations during your time on this course and will be required to carry out independent
research to support your learning, development as a teacher and the course assessments.

Progression
The DET is the recognised qualification for those working with learners in further education
and training. Students completing the DET may top up their qualification to a BA (Hons) in
Education Studies at the University of Worcester or, by choosing designated modules relating
to post-compulsory education, to a BA(Ed). A DET qualification is a pre-requisite for progression
to the University of Worcester’s Level 5 Specialist Diplomas in Teaching and Learning English/
ESOL or may be taken in parallel. Students successfully completing the first year of the DET
programme would be eligible to be awarded a Certificate in Education and Training (CET).

This Foundation Degree is designed to promote the personal, professional and academic
development of all those working or volunteering in a learning and or teaching support role in
educational settings. The programme is suitable for those working with children and young
people in the three to nineteen age range, including those with additional needs. The modules
within the programme focus on key concepts, theories and skills that underpin inform and
enhance effective professional practice. Your work based experience and practice will form
an important part of the learning and assessment process.

This course is designed to provide an insight into key aspects of business both at a
macro and micro level through the provision of academic knowledge and the promotion of
understanding & evaluative expertise so that the business principles engaged with throughout
the course can be successfully applied. In addition, the FdA Business qualification develops
students’ abilities and personal skills in the field of information management, analysis and
presentation, enabling them to progress to become independent learners, with a clear
route to degree courses and employment.

The online HND in Business is suitable for home and international students. It is designed for
those who wish to pursue a career in a range of general business/management positions.
As the course is highly flexible and learners can access the course materials from a computer

in any way restricted by the need to travel to a delivery centre. The Online HND in Business

Although the awarding body (AAT) does not prescribe specific entry requirements to the level
4 diploma all applicants studying the level will require comprehensive knowledge of material
studied at AAT levels 2 and 3. The qualification is only suitable to those who have achieved
the AAT level 3 diploma (or intermediate) or an equivalent alternative qualification such as
ACCA level 3.

This course is perfect for those who want a career in Social Work. Whilst studying,
you’ll learn through a variety of teaching methods including seminars, workshops and

modules in Skills for Learning and Sociology with a choice of two from either Social Policy,
