UFO Film and Television Studios. (UFO) is a Western-built Production
Service and Rental facility located in Sofia, Bulgaria. With the opening of our
new stage facility, it is one of the largest privately owned stage facilities in
Eastern Europe.
UFO’s production experience began in Bulgaria over 10 years ago. Since then,
we have produced nearly 100 features and over 500 Music Videos and
Commercials in Bulgaria. Our production service and rental company is
founded by a combination of European and Western production personnel
with over 40 years of combined experience in Feature Film, Television, and
Commercial production in the United States, Canada, the Middle East, and
Europe.
Our company provides a combination of the best of Western production with
the labor and cost savings of Eastern Europe. We believe our production
costs in Bulgaria are some of the lowest in the world. This is also achieved
without compromising quality or western production standards. In addition,
UFO runs a full service Special Effects Facility, located on the premises, that
has produced special effects for over 40 feature films.
UFO’s goal is to provide a production experience in Bulgaria that closely
resembles what Western producers have come to expect as the industry
standard in Los Angeles, New York, and Western Europe—at Eastern
European prices. UFO understands the needs of the international producer
and what productions of every budget require to meet their needs. Finally,
UFO understands the requirements for banking, insurance, VAT recovery,
Tax incentives and bonding of feature film productions. Thus, we are able to
set up the local infrastructure that is required to satisfy banking, insurance,
bonding and financial institutions.

The LiteRing is available in green, and fits all camera sizes. The ring has a
series of adapters to ensure maximum compatibility with camera lens sizes.
This system in many cases can eliminate the use of a traditional green or blue
screen.
This specially designed Reflecmedia Chromatte fabric is engineered to work in conjunction with a
LiteRing. The LiteRing’s LED’s (Light Emitting Diodes) are arranged in a circular casing that is
positioned in front of the camera lens. This provides all the light required to illuminate the Chromatte
background for chroma key production.
The LiteRing connects to the camera with a specially designed
adapter ring, similar to those used for matte box mounting, which is
attached to the inner thread of the lens. The LIteRing s then placed
n the adapter and simply locked with a single screw. This enables
users to quickly release the LiteRing in between shots.
The LiteRing takes the green from the fabric and completely
removes the need to separately light the background. The ability to
change the background keying color in seconds cannot be achieved
any quicker – no need to hang a different drape or repaint the
studio walls! Tungsten, HMI and Fluorescent lights can be large in size, expensive to power and
uncomfortable to work under. Typically you require thousands of watts to light absorbent chroma key
fabrics, whereas the LiteRing output of around 10 watts provides all
the light required by Chromatte.
By relocating the color and the light into one camera-mounted
device, we have significantly reduced the set-up time and overcome
many of the difficulties associated with conventional chroma key.
The system has become the standard for all special effect work in
Hollywood due to the ability to nearly eliminate light bleed on the
foreground subject.

UFO FILM AND TELEVISION STUDIOS:
Located less than 22 Kilometers from the Sofia city center, the “UFO Film and
Television Studios” is one of the largest stage and studio complexes in
Bulgaria. With over 3280 sq. meters/ 35,308 sq. ft of stage space. Every stage
is 12 meters / 39 feet to the ceiling. Add to this nearly 45,000 sq. meters of
back-lot space. In addition the studios are located on level- former
agricultural land with 360◦ clear horizon outside of all the noise and light
pollution of the city, yet less than a 10 minute drive away just off the main
highway to Varna located near the town of Dolna Malina.

Stage 2: 720 sq. meters / 7750 sq.feet

The complex has over 1000 square meters /10,760 feet of office space. This
includes 12 Actor Rooms plus 4 Luxury actor suites with bathroom and
showers. 16 offices, 2 Production Offices, 2 Make- up Rooms and 2 Wardrobe
Rooms.
ADDITIONAL PRODUCTION FACILITIES:
In addition there is over 750 square meters/ 8,100 square feet of Camera,

UFO has a full sized WESTERN TOWN, AMERICAN TOWN, 16th CENTURY
GALIEON SHIP, MEDIEVAL VILLAGE and ARCTIC STATION
The Western town, circa 1860’s has a fully functioning Saloon, Brothel,
General Store, Bank, Sheriff’s Office, Church, School, Undertaker, Post Office,
Blacksmith, Water Tower, Train Station and Stable. The Western town can
also play a variety of eras from the late 1700’s up to a small American town in
the 30’s with a mix of sign and prop changes.
The American Town is 4 city blocks with side walks, four way stop and
street lights including a fully functioning Sheriffs Office, Medical center, Bar
and Hotel. With signage changes the town can play from the 40’s to present
day.
Our Medieval Town has a large fountain center, 3 streets with large over
hangs and city center. With prop changes this set can easily play from the
years 500 to a 17th century European Village.
16th Century full sized Spanish Galleon Ship is fitted with sails, rigging and
cannons and also has internal stairs for easy actor and crew access. The ship
can easily be re-rigged to play a variety of eras from the 14th until late 19th
century.

SPECIAL EFFECTS (Digital)
Along with its parent company in Los Angeles, UFO LLC, UFO brings over 14
years of experience in Digital Special Effects now produced in Bulgaria at a
fraction of US and Western European prices. This Bulgaria division, now
operating for 7 years, is an extension of the UFO SPFX division in Los
Angeles. The Bulgarian division is geared to doing full project special effect
work on moderately budgeted feature films and commercials to larger studio
and commercial projects. With the exception of the special effects giants, such
as ILM and Digital Domain, UFO’s and UFO’s combined experience exceeds
nearly every existing FX house in the industry. With this, UFO is able to
provide state of the art, “Hollywood-accepted” visual effects at Eastern
European prices.

kind of playback imaginable, from radar screens to GPS readouts to weather
schematics, many created from full 3-D animations. In addition UFO can
supply and set up full play back systems via computer or video at 25 Frame
PAL. We can also set up 24 Frame NTSC crystal systems on a project basis.
