As it turns out, both Calpine and NRG Energy have
come out in opposition to the new transmission line, saying it is unnecessary, and at a cost of $600 million, is a
waste of taxpayer money. Both companies insist that ERCOT (Electrical Reliability Council of Texas) improperly
endorsed the project.

Third Blood Moon of Lunar Tetrad to Occur Easter Weekend

Since the time of Christ, eight lunar tetrads or a series of four blood moons, have
occurred that coincided with Jewish Holy
days. All of these events have resulted in significant historical occurrences for both Jews
and Christians.
The next blood moon of the current lunar tetrad will occur on Saturday, April 4,
which is not only the Jewish Passover, but
the night before Easter.
Blood moons look red because when
the Earth eclipses a full moon, direct sunlight is blocked, but the sun’s rays still light
up the moon. The light, however, which travels through the Earth’s atmosphere, is bent
toward the red end of the light spectrum,
which causes the appearance of the reddishorange moon.
Prior to the upcoming April 4 blood
moon, other significant signs have appeared
in the night sky. On March 20, a total eclipse
of the sun took place, which was only visible
in the far Northern Hemisphere. At the same
time, the moon reached its perigee, or closest
point to earth, causing the appearance of a
“supermoon”, which had a larger than average effect on the Earth’s oceans.
In the Bible, several verses point to the
skies to seek a sign of Christ’s return. In Joel
2:31 and Acts 2:20, “The sun shall be turned
into darkness and the moon to blood, before
the great and terrible day of the Lord.”
During the tetrads of the twentieth
century, which occurred in 1948 and 1967,
significant events occurred for the nation of
Israel. The 1948 tetrad happened during the
Israeli War for Independence, which resulted
in Israel being declared a sovereign nation.
In 1967, the Six Day War took place
in which Israel recaptured Jerusalem as its
capitol.
Prior tetrads heralded more tumultuous
events, such as the expulsion of the Jews from
Spain in 1492, and the defeat of Christians

Waller ISD Regular School Board Meets at February Meeting
WISD Public Information
The Waller ISD Regular
Called School Board Meeting
was held on Monday, February 9.
The Consent Agenda was first on
the schedule and was approved
by the school board. Consideration for the approval of resignations, employment, administrator
contract renewals, minutes of the
January meeting, leaves of absence, staff transfers, disburse-
ments, budget change requests,
tax refunds and reports were on
the agenda.
The Waller ISD and Harris County Law Enforcement
Agreement was renewed, which
supports the five school resource
officers in Waller ISD schools.
Election agreements were on the
agenda, including the Waller ISD
Joint Election Contract for election services with Waller County,
and a joint election agreement
between the Waller ISD and the
City of Waller were approved.
In addition, the appointment of
Marion Gollmer as the Election
Judge, and Tara Webb Alternate
Judge for the May 9, 2015 Waller
ISD Trustee Election were approved. The consent agenda was
approved as presented.
The Regular Agenda opened
with the consideration to approve
the Order of the Waller ISD
School Board Election for Position 5, 6 and 7. Currently David
Kaminski holds Position 5, Dr.
Michael W. Prince holds Position
6, and Kim Parmer holds Position
7. Candidates had until February
27, 2015 to file an application for
a place on the Waller ISD School
Board of Trustees Ballot.
The 2015-2016 Waller ISD
School Calendar was considered
and approved. The calendar remains much like the previous
years, and spring break will fall
on the same week as all Region 4
school districts. A Calendar Survey was released to the public,
and one hundred percent of the
responses were used to formulate next year’s calendar.

DRT No Longer Oversees Historic Alamo Grounds and Museum

After 110 years, citing 10 contractual
breaches, the Texas General Land Office,
under the leadership of new Commissioner
George P. Bush, is terminating its contract
with the Daughters of the Republic of
Texas to oversee daily management of the
Alamo.
Commissioner George P. Bush thanked
the Daughters of the Republic of Texas,
stating “Without the early intervention of
the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, we
would not be able to celebrate the Shrine of
Texas Liberty today..the Alamo has always
had the same owner, the people of Texas.
And so to meet the ever-increasing operational needs of the Alamo, the GLO has
determined to change its day to day management from the DRT and move in a new
direction.”

In further action, the court unanimously passed a
Resolution to support a “no-build’ option for the Brazos
Valley Electric Transmission line slated to run through
northeast Waller County.
A no-build resolution calls for the county’s right to
review, approve or reject a project that would impact its
residents. To fight the transmission line, Judge Duhon
has also sought the expertise of the well-known property

the DRT have lovingly cared for and maintained the Alamo. This decision does not
represent the end of the DRT’s devoted service to the Alamo, but instead marks a new
chapter in their remarkable story of dedication to Texas history.

Waller Wonders - Ignorance is (sometimes) bliss

have good intentions … really I do. For
instance, I’ll go
to bed thinking
I will tackle that hall closet tomorrow. Then I wake up the next
morning, and today, which was
tomorrow yesterday, gets pushed
to another day to be determined.
Besides me, who even knows
that hall closet is there, much less
that it needs attention – a LOT of
attention? So, I push it to another
tomorrow.
Same thing with eating
healthy (or exercising, or doing
anything else that is for my wellbeing). I intend to eat healthy. I
I
start the day with a bowl of oatmeal, no sugar, added fruit and
nuts, a scant sprinkle of salt to
keep it from tasting like wallpaper paste. I pack a healthy lunch,
low in calories, high in protein
and fiber.
Then someone says, “Let’s
go across the street for lunch.”
Okay! I’m standing at the door
with my purse in hand. One of
our favorites is a family-owned
Mexican restaurant; good food,
good service, good prices. Granted, I order the Summer Plate, but
then there’s that big basket of
perfect chips and salsa. I could
maybe justify some chips and
salsa. But THIS place also puts
a bowl of queso on the table –
melted cheese! And just like that,
my good intentions go sit on the
patio where I can ignore them.
The other place across the
street offers terrific food and
good service, too. This food is
perfect if you’re going to go dig
a two-mile long ditch, or roof a
house. I’m just going to go back
to my desk to sit, talk on the
phone, or sometimes walk a few
steps down the hall to our conference room, where I will again sit
and talk.
Okay, so lunch at that place
could, and often does, consist of
the soup and sandwich special.
That’s a grilled cheese sandwich
and tomato soup. Before you ask
what could possibly be wrong
with that, I will tell you.
The sandwich is on thick cut,
rather substantial bread. It has
three kinds of delicious, melty
cheese oozing over the edges.
Moreover, it has three thick slices of crisp jalapeno bacon. All of
this yumminess is then toasted
on a greased griddle.
The innocent-sounding tomato soup? It’s a hearty-size
“cup” with creamy tomato soup
(creamy with cream!), generously
garnished with toasted croutons
(probably from the same bread
as the sandwich), and sprinkled
with grated cheese.
I have no idea how many
calories this “soup and sandwich
special” contains, nor am I ever
going to ask, but I’m confident
that it has multiple zeros in the
total.
Which brings me to an article put out by Women’s Health
magazine. It’s an evil chart showing what kind of activity a woman would have to do if she ate
certain unhealthy things. Oh, and
that woman weighs 130 pounds.
I weighed that at one time. I think
I was 25 years old and had lived
on water and diet pills for a year.
So, here’s the bad news
shared by Women’s Health: Eat
one glazed donut (242 calories)
and do 88 minutes of crunches to
burn it. Enjoy a cheeseburger and
fries (691 calories), and you’ll
do 141 minutes on the elliptical
(that’s over two hours!).
Two slices of pepperoni
pizza can’t be all that bad, right?
Those 626 calories will require
159 minutes of climbing stairs.
There’s nothing about coming
down the stairs, just climbing.
How about those chips and queso
I mentioned earlier (no portion
size was mentioned, just 740 calories)? That takes 130 minutes of
swimming to just break even.
Alright, I won’t eat anything. I’ll just stop by Sonic and
have a soda. A 21-ounce soda, a
mere 200 calories, would require
54 minutes of lunges. That’s an
hour of lunges, assuming you
live! And don’t even think about
having a milkshake instead!
Those 780 calories of delight
would mean 72 minutes of jump-
ing rope.
Bottom line: I think I’m going to have to up my good intentions. Like this afternoon, about
three o’clock … or as one of my
co-workers calls it … “chocolate hour” … I wanted M&Ms.
Just plain ol’ chocolate M&Ms.
Thank goodness I forgot that I
had a bag in my desk drawer until
I got over the urge.
A 1.69 ounce bag has 230
calories, with 31 grams of sugar
… 31 grams! That’s about seven
times the amount of sugar my nutritionist said should be in a serving of food. According to the WH
article, I would be doing about 85
crunches to kill that one little bag
of M&Ms.
Well, I certainly wouldn’t be
doing crunches … but you get
the picture. Now I must either
hide that bag of M&Ms, or give
it to someone who will actually
DO 85 crunches!
I had a nice visit with my
daughter and my granddaughter
on Sunday. Ashlynn, who turns
15 on April 16, looked as fresh
as a daisy … despite the fact that
she had just completed a 45 mile
… yes, I said 45 MILE … bike
ride that morning, starting and
ending at the Waller stadium.
She’s in training to again ride the
MS-150 bike ride from Houston
to Austin in mid-April; that’s 160
miles. I may have mentioned that
she rode it for the first time last
year while she was still 13. Her
daddy is riding beside her the
whole way, of course. He’s not
going to let anything happen to
his baby girl!

Will Texas End Daylight Savings Time?

Daylight Savings Time in
Texas could be a thing of the past
if some Texas lawmakers have
their way. HB150, if passed,
would eliminate the twice-a-year
time change.
Texas State Rep. Dan Flynn,
who filed the bill to end Daylight
Savings Time, says time change is
no longer needed and is causing
more problems than it solves. The
bill has several co-sponsors and
has received bipartisan support.
President Johnson signed
Daylight Savings time into law in
1966, asking Americans to spring
forward or turn their clocks back
an hour in the fall. The intent
of the law was to save energy at
a time of rising oil prices. Yet,
numerous studies, such as one
conducted by the California Energy Commission, found energy
savings to be a paltry .1 percent
at best.
Other studies done by insurance companies and health agencies have shown that the time
changes lead to more car and
workplace accidents, and have a
detrimental effect on the human
psyche.
Many still believe the myth
that DST was meant to help
farmers. In fact, in the 1960’s,
powerful farm lobbyist opposed
the change, and spoke out vociferously against it.
A famous quote from an
American Indian wryly explains
the situation by saying, “Only the
government would believe you
could cut a foot off the top of a
blanket, sew it on the bottom,
and have a longer blanket.”
On Wednesday, March 11,
the bill was considered in a public
hearing, and testimony was given
on both sides of the issue. At the
present time, the bill is still pending in committee.
A second bill, filed by Representative James white, HB363,
asks for the creation of a task
force to conduct a study and develop recommendations on the
efficacy of the continuation of
Daylight Savings Time.
Last week, the New Mexico
State Senate approved a bill, 2811, to move their state off of DST.
Fourteen other states are considering the same changes.
If the bill passes, it will go
Texas Workforce Commission Recovers $10.5
Million in Unemployment Insurance Fraud
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) recovered a total of more than $10.5 million in
fraudulent Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefit claims during
calendar year 2014 (CY2014)
through its collection efforts combined with the State Comptroller’s
warrant hold process and offsets
to current UI benefit claims.
Of that total, TWC recovered
nearly $3.1 million in fraudulently
obtained UI benefits in CY2014
through TWC’s Fraud Prosecutions Unit. TWC investigates, and
refers to local district attorney offices, cases in which UI benefits
are obtained through fraud or de-
ception. Recovered funds will be
returned to the Unemployment
Compensation Trust Fund from
which TWC pays unemployment
benefits to individuals who have
lost their job through no fault of
their own.
Twelve Gulf Coast individuals from Galveston, Harris and
Brazoria counties were prosecuted for state UI fraud in 2014
and were ordered to pay a total
of $107,938 in restitution. In addition to restitution orders, individuals who commit UI fraud can
be ordered to pay fines, perform
hours of community service and
some serve jail time. For a list of

“The Texas Workforce Commission is committed to preventing abuse of the UI program and
prosecuting individuals who engage in fraud,” said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. “Preserving
the UI Trust Fund for the employers and workers of Texas is a top
priority.”
Debt to the state does not go
away unless it is paid. The Texas
Constitution prohibits forgiving
such debt, and TWC continues
to pursue and collect fraud, and

Steer Validation Program Dates Set
The deadline for purchasing tags for the 2015-2016 Texas 4-H/
FFA Steer Validation Program is Thursday, April 10, 2015.
By purchasing a tag, youth are not automatically entered in
a major livestock show. This tag is needed for youth to show
market steers at 2016 Spring Major shows such as Ft. Worth,
San Antonio, or Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. For FFA
students, tags must order through an Ag teacher and 4-H youth
should order through the county extension agent. Validation
will occur in late June, and parents and youths are expected to

John and Barbara Isom celebrate 35 years of ministry at

John graduated from the University of Houston in 1970 with
a business administration degree
in accounting and served in the
Army as a computer programmer
at the Army Management Systems
Support Agency at the Pentagon.
After working for IBM as a computer systems analyst at NASA
on Skylab and Space Shuttle programs, John accepted a call to
WBC to serve as Minister of Music and Youth. John enjoyed eight

RCS Student Advances to the National Spelling Bee
Allison Strange, an eighth
grader at Rosehill Christian
School, recently competed in the
ACSI South Central Regional
Spelling Bee on March 14, 2015
in Plano, Texas and will advance
to the National Bee.
The top sixty spellers from
the states of Texas, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas,
and Louisiana competed for five
available spots to enter the ACSI
National Spelling Bee on May
1-2, also in Plano, Texas. Allison
placed second in the Regional
Bee and advances to the National Spelling Bee.
She memorized over 1,700
published words that helped her
make it through the first nine
rounds of competition, lasting
four hours. After that, the bee
moved to an unpublished list,
where she made it through six
more rounds of unpublished
words, four of which were a
two-person competition for the
regional championship.
Strange ultimately came in
second to her long time rival and
friend (from the same district),
with whom she ironically battled
59 rounds and tied for the 8th
grade gold medal back in January.
Strange has competed in
spelling bees since first grade
and has never lost a school spelling bee. She also has three gold
medals, an overall district championship, and has qualified for
the six-state Regional Bee three
times, but this is her first trip to
Nationals.
She gives all glory to God,
and is proud to be representing
RCS at the National Spelling
Bee.

Public Utility Commission will
hold a hearing on whether or not
ERCOT followed proper procedure and conducted a full economic analysis before approving
the project and whether it has established that a reliability problem
really exists that would necessitate
such an expenditure.
The court also voted 4-1
(Beckendorff opposed) to approve immediate engagement of
an environmental law firm Fritz,
Byrne, Head & Harrison, PCCE
for legal services, and to exempt
the same from competitive bidding. According to Duhon, the
firm will be engaged to advise the
county on the following issues: 1)
Whether or not the county should
participate with CALH in their
Contested Case Hearing 2) to help
rewrite the 2011 ordinance, and 3)
advise the county on development
of a comprehensive waste management plan.
Commissioner Beckendorff
objected to hiring the firm at this
time and suggested there should
be a search for at least three firms
and competitive bidding before
determination of the best firm is
reached.
However, Judge Duhon stated
that time was of the essence and
that the court, already having delayed action due to a lengthy litigation and settlement process, now
needs to move forward as quickly
as possible.
“Fritz, Byrne, Head & Har-
rison have had 34 years of experience in environmental law
and have helped several counties
resolve their environmental problems relating to landfills and other
similar issues,” stated Duhon.
Commission Amsler added,
“These issues need to be dealt with
posthaste. Time is of the essence.”
The court also approved payment by a 3-2 vote, of $35,305.80
to Allison, Bass, & Magee for legal services. Amsler and Klecka
were opposed.

foot of space value in a classroom was also discussed when
it comes to instruction. Marcus
stated that the buildings would
be delivered by mid-April. The
Waller ISD School Board authorized Superintendent Danny
Twardowski to execute a contract
with VLK Architects for potential bond projects.

the PASA Population and Analysis Report. Waller ISD has approximately 400 more students
enrolled in the District in comparison to this time last year. The

The event to promote ecumenical unity, open to all ladies
of the community, was headlined
by the Sowell Family Pickers, a
local bluegrass band that specializes in gospel songs and inspirational messages. The family
group features all six children on
various instruments, as well as
the mother, with the father handling the support functions. The

hiring of Coach Bruce Lane as
the next Head Football Coach
and Assistant Athletic Director.
Coach Lane has spent 31 years
as a teacher, coach and athletic
administrator.
He has shared with RCS
Staff his desire to see student
athletes become champions in
all areas of their lives; but most
importantly he desires for them
to become “Champions for
Christ” by growing in their walk
with Him.
Most recently, Coach Lane
has served in the following
schools: 2012 - Present: Wilson Hall School, Sumter, South
Carolina, Head Football Coach,
Assistant Athletic Director,
Coach Bruce Lane
Head Track Coach; Recognized
as the AAA Coach of the Year
and a Carolina Panthers Coach
of the Year Finalist; Coached
his football team to an 18-game
home winning streak and led
them to be the 2012 and 2014
State Semi-Finalist; and in 2013
his football team was the undefeated State Champions.
Also, in 2009-2012: Fort
Bend Christian Academy, Sugar Land, Texas, Head Football
Coach, Athletic Director and
Strength and Conditioning
Coach; 2010 and 2011 Playoffs;
and Best 3-year record in the
history of the school.
All totaled, Coach Lane
has 26 years experience as a
Head Football Coach. He is a
two-time State Champion Head
Football Coach, has won 188
football games, and has appeared in four State Championship games. He has had 32 athletes move on to the collegiate
level, and one player (J.T. Wall)
was drafted by the NFL’s Pitts-
burgh Steelers.
Coach Lane and his wife,
Chris, will be finishing out their
teaching and coaching responsibilities in South Carolina and
will be packing up their belongings and their college age son,
Christian, for the move back to
Texas.

Alamo Visitor Center to house
the hundreds of Alamo artifacts
donated by British pop singer Phil Collins last June. The
Alamo Endowment has been
reconstituted as a major capital
campaign to raise the millions
of dollars needed for an Alamo
museum and visitor center worthy of Phil Collins’ renowned
collection.
Last week, as a thank you for
his expansive donation, the Texas
State Legislature issued a resolution naming Collins an honorary
Texan. Items donated by Collins
include a rifle and leather pouch
once owned by Crockett, as well
as a knife owned by Bowie.
According to the concurrent resolution HCR 79, Collins
became interested in the history
of the Alamo when he saw Walt
Disney’s series Davy Crockett,
King of the Wild Frontier as a
child.
One stipulation on Collins’
gift was that Texas would build
a new facility at the Alamo, with
the conservation technology
needed to protect these priceless pieces of Texas history and
to display them so that future
generations of Texans and visitors could experience and learn
from them.

Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine
Empire lasted for over 1,250 years
and historians agree that without
Byzantium to protect it, Europe
would have been overrun by Islamic
invaders.
Many books have been written about the current tetrad of blood
moons and the end times.
In regards to prophecy in Revelation 6:12, St. John stated: “And
I beheld when he had opened the
sixth seal, and lo, there was a great
earthquake and the sun became as
sackcloth of hair and the moon became as blood.”
In Genesis 1:14, God specifically said that He created the heavens “to be signs.” We also know that
the wise men were led by a star,
which is recorded in Matthew 2:12,
“..there came three wise men from
the east to Jerusalem, saying, where
is he that is born King of the Jews?
For we have seen His star in the East
and are come to worship him.”
What does this all mean? Jesus said that only the Father knows
the day and hour of His return, but
many today feel we are living in
times reminiscent of 1938 or 1939,
the days leading up to WWII, when
events spun out of control, leading
the world to the brink of destruction.
As for the current tetrad, which
began with the first blood moon on
April 15, 2014, many significant
events have occurred. Whether
these events are related to the signs
in the heavens will be up to each individual to interpret.
Since April of 2014, for instance, the rise of ISIS and increased persecution of Christians
has occurred; Russia has taken control of the Crimea and has entered
the Ukraine, and Iran continues
its march to obtaining a nuclear
weapon.
Despite these events, one thing
is certain: Christians need not be
afraid. None of us know the day or
the hour of Christ’s return. As Jesus
said in Matthew 6:25,27: “Therefore do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink, or about
your body, what you will wear;
is not life more than food and the
body more than clothes? Can anyone of you by worrying add a single
day to your life?”
Without a doubt, however, significant events are occurring in our
time, and if nothing else, look to the
blood moons as a sign or signal to
remember what’s important in life.
Perhaps God is reminding us in every way possible to turn to Him.
So, on the Eve of Easter, whether you believe the blood moon is a
sign from God or merely a scientific phenomenon, you might want to
look to the heavens to observe this
spectacular celestial event.
And be not afraid, for as the
Bible states in Luke 21:38, “When
these things begin to take place,
stand up and lift up your heads because your redemption is drawing
near.”

at Bellville United Methodist Church. The annual event
began with a practice round to
allow spellers an opportunity
to warm up and prepare for the
main event. Twelve schools consisting of elementary and junior

Memphis “Bubba” Wells, an 8-year-old 2nd grader at Holleman
Elementary School in Waller, participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Rodeo Rockstar contest, along with 66
other entrants. Memphis was the youngest in the entire contest,
and the only boy in the Junior Division. This is only his second
contest; his first contest was at the Waller County Fair Talent
Showdown in 2014, where he won Grand Champion. Memphis
was also Little Mr. Waller County in 2013. During the Rockstar
on-stage interview, emcee Katie Key asked him if he had three
wishes what would they be? He answered, “to be rich and have
$100 dollars, to be famous for singing, and to meet Jesus”. Memphis is a straight A student and his proud parents are Micah and
Cherith Wells, and biggest fan is little sister Paisley, who is age 6.

The W.C. Schultz Junior High Bel Canto Choir participated in the Region 27 UIL Concert and
Sight Reading contest on Monday, March 2 at Spring Branch Presbyterian Church. The choir
