LEEMA ACOUSTICS
“Xen is the most impressive micro monitor I have ever heard.”
Hugh Robjohns - Sound On Sound
“Sonically the Xen is a joy... it must surely be recognised as one of the finest mini monitors around.”
Paul Messenger - Hi-Fi Choice
“Under in room conditions, the averaged response trace held within quite remarkable +/- 2dB limits from 200Hz to 7Khz, tighter limits
than any other example I've encountered in fifteen years of regular speaker reviewing. The crossover point is so seamless, it's entirely
invisible on the overall trace.”
Paul Messenger - Hi-Fi Plus
“Like Ockham's razor, the Xen seems to cut away dressing, getting at the principle melodies of the music.”
Andrew Harrison - Hi-Fi News
“Superb build and attention to detail are blended with eminently natural voicing that is true to the studio monitor roots of Leema Acoustics.
Such is the level of transparency here, that the move from a domestic vinyl release to a 200gm Quiex pressing demanded an adjustment of VTA.”
David Allcock - Hi-Fi News
“I was utterly slapped in the face at just how awesome these small no-compromise speakers really were.
This set of smallies is actually suitable for home cinema hooligans as well as audiophiles.”
Adam Rayner - Home Cinema Choice

What does the perfect listening experience feel like?
Xen

Relaxed, powerful, exhilarating, calming. Our constant quest to provide no-compromise audio products helps bring you that experience. Built using the finest parts and
materials available, every Leema audio product offers genuine improvements in performance, build quality and value for money, leaving you to focus on the important
thing..... Listening.
Unusually, in these cost driven times, our products are designed, developed and manufactured in the United Kingdom.
Leema Acoustics was founded in 1998 as a vehicle for ex-BBC engineers Mallory Nicholls and Lee Taylor to push the boundaries of loudspeaker design. The primary aim
was simple - to design better loudspeaker products than any available at that time. Their original research focused on new principles and mathematical models used for
miniature loudspeaker design. Our founders have a fanatical interest in audio reproduction for professional and domestic environments. Mallory has a long track record
manufacturing the world's leading monitoring electronics for mixing studios and mastering houses under the MAGTRAX brand label. Lee is a BAFTA winning re-recording
mixer and has worked in the film, television and music industries.
From the diminutive Xen miniature to the awe-inspiring Xavier floor-stander, Leema designs encapsulate the advances made during fifteen man years of research in to
loudspeaker design. Innovative proprietary software tools and mathematical modelling helped us to obtain hitherto unattainable levels of performance and fidelity. These
tools have also been applied to our class-leading SPLX10 subwoofer, resulting in a series of products unsurpassed in both their technical specification and sonic quality.
Our beautifully finished cabinets are designed with no audible signature, resulting in Leema loudspeakers often being compared to electrostatic models. Neutrality is vital
for the perfect listening experience.
The Choice of Professionals
Leema loudspeakers are used by audio professionals the world over. In the UK, studios mastering CDs and DVDs use Leema products for quality control every day.
Overseas, our products are used by major radio and television broadcasters, recording studios and mastering houses. This broad range of users and audio material is
testament to the flexibility, reliability and neutrality of our designs. In a single day, a pair of Leema loudspeakers may be required to reproduce anything from Chopin to
Godzilla and must remain faithful to the recording artist's work.
It is important to realise that the products we sell to domestic Hi-Fi and Home Cinema users, are identical to those used by our professional clients.
Rest assured - Whatever your taste in music or film, Leema will take you on a journey like no other....

Merely making better products isn’t enough
We took our time before entering the electronics market. If we were going to build a range of electronics, it would have to be very
different to anything that had gone before. Merely making better products wouldn’t be enough. Our electronics range would have
to deliver not only performance and refinement, but also innovation, to live up to the reputation of our loudspeaker range.
Starting at the source, the Cygnus phono stage is a fine example of our philosophy. We could have just designed a competent
pre-amplifier. Instead, we decided to cater for all analogue disc enthusiasts. A two year research project identified and tested over
eighty recording formats. As a result, Cygnus offers accurate replay of any commercial recording, from acoustic 78s to modern
day high-quality vinyl. If you have a recording in a format that we didn’t identify, don’t worry: Cygnus also has freely user-definable
characteristics. What’s more, all this flexibility is achieved purely in the analogue domain and without matching transformers.
Balanced outputs are also provided for high-end and professional users.
What we needed next was an amplifier for audiophiles
O.K. so we now had a great source. What we needed next was an amplifier that would satisfy even the most ardent audiophile.
Oh, and it too had to be innovative. Tucana was the result. On it’s own, Tucana is a superb stereo amplifier which will happily drive
today’s audiophile speakers in a stereo system. It is a dual mono design using three heavy-duty torroidal power transformers and
has a refined bi-polar output stage using six devices per channel. A flexible set of inputs, a record output and full remote control
complete the picture.
Well, actually not. Tucana is also the system controller for a unique and expandable home cinema system. It is able to talk to the
outside world using the ‘Leema Intelligent Protocol System’ or LIPS. This enables Tucana to automatically and intelligently
configure other group members and devices in a multi-unit home cinema system.
This brings us neatly to Hydra. Hydra is an intelligent stereo slave amplifier having exactly the same topology as Tucana. Used
singly or in pairs, Hydra’s main duty would normally be driving the surround channels in a home cinema system. It may also be
used in a bi-amp stereo or multi-channel system. It’s on board volume control tracks the system level via communications from
Tucana.
Our final product is Corvus. This is the flexible member of the group, having a single channel amplifier for centre channel use and
a comprehensive subwoofer control system. This section offers bass extraction, trim, filtering and phase control of mono or,
uniquely, stereo subwoofers in both multi-channel and stereo systems. Again, Corvus is commanded by Tucana using LIPS.
Simplicity is the key to enjoyment
This all sounds very impressive, but isn’t it really complicated? Actually, no, in fact quite the opposite. The beauty of LIPS is that it
‘understands’ what you are trying to do. For example, if you want to play a CD in stereo, Tucana knows that the rest of the group
can stand down, so Hydra and Corvus remain powered off. If you then decide to watch a movie, the appropriate units are powered
and configured just by selecting a multi-channel source, such as DVD, on Tucana. The individual units learn your favorite settings
for each source and configure themselves automatically.
This approach, eliminates the need to constantly search through menus and change settings. It was designed with families in
mind. No longer will only one member of the family be able to fully use the system, resulting in more enjoyment for everyone and
more return on your investment.
