But it has also been very rewarding as the initial short term goals of the club have mostly been exceeded, and those of us on the committee are delighted with the progress of the club given such a short period of time. A clubs life support is based around its member's base. And at the writing of this report we had 127 members which is fantastic. There are several reasons why people would join a car club and these reasons include: • CAMS affiliation for those wanting to participate in motor sports • Social Community of people with common interests • Member benefits and discounts • Access to technical information nights etc. Addressing these four points have been the key objectives of the committee during this first year. 2005 annual report The first thing arranged was CAMS affiliation. This is more than just providing access to members for motor sport but provides us as a club (and most importantly us as a committee) public liability insurance for ALL activities the club partakes in - even social functions. Once CAMS was established, our aim was to organise track access for members who wanted to participate in a structured yearly motor sport championship. We don't have the member base, nor the experience to run our own track days so an affiliation was formed with the WRX Club of Victoria to run our championship in conjunction with their track days. It's been mutually beneficial to both clubs and has so far worked great. I'm a firm believer in promoting motor sport as I like to see guys racing in a safe environment rather than on the streets. So far in 2005 we have had around 25 members participate in at least one of the 3 motor sport days so I think that side has been a great success. The biggest strength of the club so far however is the social side. Our monthly meetings at the Bell's Hotel usually have at least 50 people and are a very friendly environment. We also have regular cruises, we had the clubs biggest stand for Autosalon in April, we have been go-karting, and also regular weekend away trips in conjunction with page 2 president’s report cont... the track days where usually only half the attendee's are actually competing. The area we are working hardest on at the moment is member benefits. Our sponsorship proposals have been written but as I hope you can appreciate getting backing when you are so new as a club is a difficult task. However, we do already have some benefits such as discounts at Racebrakes and are VERY close to finalising deals with companies such as Centreline, Oils World and Phillips Auto to name a few. We also have a limited range of club merchandise that members can purchase at a discounted rate. The club polo's are hugely popular however, and we are constantly working on other merchandise products. Finally - on the technical side we had our first technical speaker at the last Club Meeting. Steve and Dave from Maltech came and spoke about rubber and braided brake lines. Also - you would have noticed our current History lessons in the newsletters. We already have further teaching plans in future newsletter productions. Looking ahead to the future our number one objective is to not only increase our current members base but to ensure those current members have continued reasons to renew their memberships in 2006. Future activities planned for the rest of the year include the September Autosalon Semi-Finals, a club Show and Shine, the inaugural Annual Dinner and Awards night, Christmas BBQ and numerous cruises and other social outings. We are also continuing to work on member benefits, club sponsors, and club merchandise - including a small range of Team Wang items coming soon.
