Generally speaking, it is possible to make a distinction between two groups in the product family: visualization software and process-support software, which also works with visualizations. The following chart provides an overview of the main applications: 3 2 Visualization Software The RTT visualization software family consists of four software applications and a variety of optional, add-on modules. These four applications are the flagship product RTT DeltaGen, the RTT DeltaView plus and free viewer programs and the material design application RTT DeltaTex. It is possible to extend the range of functions that RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaView plus offer by licensing additional modules. In contrast, RTT DeltaTex and RTT DeltaView free cannot be combined with modules. The applications are described in more detail in Section 2.1. Section 2.2 provides a more specific overview of the functions of the optional software modules. 4 2.1 Applications 2.1.1 RTT DeltaGen RTT DeltaGen is one of the leading international high-performance software solution that delivers a realistic display of 3D visualizations in realtime. The software enables quick, efficient workflows to be established in product development, design, assembly, marketing and sales – all with an extremely high degree of flexibility. The realism of images, films and animations created with RTT DeltaGen make a lasting impression. RTT DeltaGen addresses professional users who prepare complex 3D data for realtime high-end visualization applications of unique visual quality. The use of HDR (high dynamic range)-based realtime rendering here produces consistent and very realistic visualization results. First-rate imagery in realtime: Ultimate realism based on HDR In RTT DeltaGen, files in CSB, STL, VRML and IV formats as well as PLMXML structure files can be read offhand. In order to convert formats of current CAD systems (CATIA, Pro/E, Unigraphics, etc.), RTT CAD converters are required. Data from McNeel Rhino can be converted by RTT DirectRhino. The conversion of FBX data runs with RTT DirectFBX. RTT DirectMaya is provided for data deriving from Autodesk Maya. Data from Autodesk AutoCAD can be converted directly by RTT DirectAutoCAD. As for data coming from Autodesk AliasStudio Tools, RTT offers the direct conversion tool RTT DirectWire, which enables a direct and quick data transfer to RTT DeltaGen via SmartSteps. Data can be saved either in CSB or IV formats. The import of ICEM data is done by RTT File Monitor. It automatically starts to import IV files into RTT DeltaGen after they have been saved in a corresponding directory. Users can also benefit from SmartSteps to run a presentation immediately after the data import – quickly and easily. 5 RTT PDMConnector gives you direct access to Teamcenter®, the leading PDM system, via RTT PictureBook 5.5. This allows you to transfer building components and geometries to RTT DeltaGen and to acquire updates. The lightning fast import of JT data with RTT DirectJT, including metadata and colors combined with a new tessellator, increases productivity without a PDM connection. Geometries can be tessellated in RTT DeltaGen, optionally with ‘Levels of Details’ (LODs), and can be optimized for a quicker display of illustrations and for small file sizes respectively. A built-in UV Editor allows UV sets for scene objects to be created and edited directly in RTT DeltaGen. At the push of a button, the editor unfolds the selected geometry parts and automatically generates a 2D image of the UV coordinates. Included in RTT DeltaGen, the application RTT DeltaBatch allows important, common work steps to be run in batch mode, such as the conversion and geometric preparation of files (e.g. the jacketing of components). A clearly-arranged graphical user interface allows designers to work intuitively with 3D models because all the necessary components for the creation of highend looks are integrated there. It is easy to access individual parameters and to determine the look of materials along with important attributes, such as color, surface and reflection behavior. Furthermore, all looks can be defined centrally via the Look Editor, allowing colors, textures and reflexions to be adjusted conveniently. Looks are provided in libraries and can thus be easily assigned to geometry for further adjustments and modifications. By applying the ‘Look Assignment Table’, default looks will be adjusted automatically. Finally, a range of presettings also makes it easier for designers with no previous RTT DeltaGen experience to start using the program and achieve the desired high-quality design results immediately after loading the data into the program (SmartSteps). Not all of these work steps have to be determined and executed manually because RTT DeltaGen provides templates for automatic scene preparation. These templates are particularly useful for processes that are often repeated. Standard work steps such as conversion, tessellation, jacketing, assigning looks or look variants can be defined in advance, administered in libraries and then processed automatically. Shadows can also be calculated automatically, in which case it is possible to choose between offline shadows and realtime illumination with RTT RealLight. In addition, sound and light sources can be created in RTT DeltaGen. Light sources can easily be integrated into the scene by using standard color values or sunlight calculations for worldwide locations. An extensive overall impression may be set up by generating a number of logically connected animations and variant sets. 6 The Animation Editor provides maximum creative freedom. Its user interface maintains path animations for cameras and scene objects, as well as many new animation types for the post-processor, looks, lights and the human models from RTT Human and RTT Ramsis. Thanks to key workflows and graphic controls you can easily create very realistic animations. RTT RealTrace calculates and displays physically correct reflections and refractions on geometry. It generates raytracing effects and assigns them to objects by realistically displaying reflective and transparent geometries in the optional surroundings of RTT DeltaGen. The display of RTT RealTrace in 3D scenes is done in realtime. Even animated scenes can be automatically computed without the need for manual preparation. As RTT's raytracing technology utilizes the high-performance processors of the CPU (the computer's central processing unit), more than 100 million polygons can be processed very quickly if the required RAM is in place. RTT RealTrace calculates and displays physically correct reflections and refractions Thanks to integrated state-of-the-art RTT Scale technology, calculations are distributed intelligently via all available CPUs of a PC-Cluster, which leads to an increase in visual quality. 7 The use of shadow produces a realistic representation of the models. RTT DeltaGen offers various computational procedures for illumination and shadows calculations. Depending on quality, performance and dynamic, realtime shadows, offline shadows RTT RealLight, ambient occlusion, Lightmap or dynamic ‘Global Illumination’ can be selected. A highly realistic depiction of the Audi R8 interior rendered by RTT RealLight using ambient occlusion The new HDR Light Studio plug-in allows creating HDR lighting environments directly in RTT DeltaGen for realtime viewing and modification. It generates creative lighting effects comparable to those of a photographic studio. The quickly and simply placed light sources provide optimal illumination and reflections with minimal effort. To use the HDR Light Studio plug-in a license is required, which will be provided free of charge. Scene settings may be upgraded with post effects such as ‘Glow’ and ‘Glare’ to accentuate realtime models in a highly effective way. ‘Depth of Field’ allows the blurring of certain picture elements, which gives the overall scene a impressive personal touch as some scene elements deliberately appear clearer than others. Enhancing the visual quality of scenes with glow and glare effects and depth of field 8 The tone mapping functionality is another perfect extension to RTT DeltaGen’s post production tools. From a high dynamic range image (HDRI), this function can generate an image with reduced tonal values. In the process, original details and their depiction in terms of light and shadows remain clearly visible. This allows for an optimum contrast comparison between light and dark image details. Default or self-made environments may be used to position models on turntables in different lighting scenarios with matching reflections. Furthermore, pictures, films and interactive Adobe Flash files can be loaded into realtime scenes as background layers or overlays. ‘Drag&Drop’ functionalities and several viewer panels (‘Multiview’) of one or more simultaneously opened scenes (‘Multiscene’) makes working with RTT DeltaGen even more efficient. ‘Surface check’ allows for the advanced identification of surface shapes. The Render Export provides the ideal environment to efficiently render pictures, video sequences, Quicktime VR films and Flash films for complex print and online projects. You can quickly and easily organize your visual material in Render Passes to accurately prepare it for the post production process. In addition, RTT DeltaGen also embraces an interface for external commands that enables individual user interfaces to control scene settings in the software. An integrated RTT PictureBook Browser enables a quick and easy access to RTT PictureBook Server within a company’s network. Thanks to a highly intuitive graphical user interface, users may effortlessly load models and surroundings into RTT DeltaGen and directly access RTT PictureBook libraries (databases of looks and geometries). Additionally, the status of various data saved in RTT PictureBook can be updated in the RTT DeltaGen realtime scene at any time. Data can be browsed by various criteria and accessed via a smart tree structure. Materials and object libraries in RTT PictureBook are connected directly to RTT DeltaGen allowing for smoother workflows during visualization 9 Optional modules for RTT DeltaGen: _ RTT CAD and kinematics converters (diverse) _ RTT Analyzer _ RTT Human _ RTT Ramsis _ RTT PathPlanner _ RTT RealFluid _ RTT Scale plus, RTT Scale advanced, RTT Scale unlimited _ RTT Presenter _ RTT Immersive _ RTT RealView _ RTT LayerCreator 10 2.1.2 RTT DeltaView plus RTT DeltaView plus makes the cost-efficient visualization of scene settings created in RTT DeltaGen possible without compromising visual quality. The scene setting itself, however, cannot be modified in RTT DeltaView plus. Presentation of product details by RTT DeltaView plus, exemplifying an Adidas trainer With this viewer program, animations can be run and various variant possibilities may be switched on or off. Visualizations (also using RTT RealTrace) are displayed quickly and without compromising quality in RTT DeltaView plus. In combination with an additional RTT Scale module, visualizations can also be displayed in powerwall mode with RTT DeltaView plus. This extra module may also add further performance to the program (see also RTT Scale ). U U In RTT DeltaView plus, scenes can be loaded and it offers useful tools for visual effects (such as depth of field or post effects) and shape identification. It also includes functions that allow the creation of films, interactive QuickTime VRs, Adobe Flash movies and high-resolution images. Finally, RTT DeltaView plus also embraces an interface for external commands that allows scene settings in the program to be controlled by custom user interfaces. Optional modules for RTT DeltaView plus: _ RTT Analyzer _ RTT Scale plus, RTT Scale advanced, RTT Scale unlimited _ RTT Presenter _ RTT Conferencing 11 2.1.3 RTT DeltaView free RTT DeltaView free is offered at no charge and enables the license-free visualization of scene settings created in RTT DeltaGen with the same quality. However, models cannot be modified. Animations can be run and various alternative possibilities may be switched on or off. Unlike RTT DeltaView plus, RTT DeltaView free does not offer control and navigation by a Presenter GUI or via external user interfaces. RTT Scale is not integrated with RTT DeltaView free and it cannot be combined with other optional modules of the RTT visualization suite. 2.1.4 RTT DeltaTex RTT DeltaTex makes it possible to determine material combinations simply, quickly and efficiently in realtime. Realistic, interactively controllable visualizations can be created on the basis of any material design in the blink of an eye. Create intuitive material designs – RTT DeltaTex makes it possible! The basis for the digital design process with RTT DeltaTex is the virtual prototype from RTT DeltaGen. The pre-prepared virtual model is loaded in RTT DeltaTex. The desired materials can then simply be applied to it in order to compare them or test different combinations. RTT DeltaTex also enables users to blend the real world with the virtual world. For example, a camera can be used to record textile or leather surfaces in real time before transferring this information digitally to RTT DeltaTex (Live Texture Capturing). It is also possible to access virtual material libraries, select designs and apply them to the prototype. The graphical user interface, which can be operated either via a mouse or touch screen, allows users to adjust the colors and design characteristics of materials in RTT DeltaTex in an extremely intuitive and efficient manner. RTT Scale is not integrated with RTT DeltaTex and it cannot be combined with other optional modules of the RTT visualization suite. 12 2.2 Add-on Modules As mentioned at the beginning of this document, the RTT visualization software family includes a series of optional add-on modules in addition to its four software applications. These modules can be combined with RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaView plus. This expands the range of functions offered by both of these applications. The following chart summarizes the modular functions and shows which modules can be used in conjunction with RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaView plus: 2.2.1 Data Preparation RTT Converters Converters allow the easy and direct opening of CAD files in RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaBatch as well as the conversion of kinematic information for RTT DeltaGen. During the conversion process, surface normals are automatically adjusted. In addition, optional functions for the elimination of tolerance cracks at surface edges or for the structuring of the scene tree may be used. 13 A host of converters are offered for the following formats: _ RTT DirectAutoCAD for Autodesk AutoCAD (DWG) _ RTT Direct CatiaKinematics RTT DirectCatiaKinematics is a conversion tool that translates CATIA kinematics into key-frame animations for RTT DeltaGen. Complex CATIA V5 kinematics is quickly turned into ready-made animations for the visualization software RTT DeltaGen. RTT DirectCatiaKinematics runs in CATIA. _ RTT DirectCatiaV4 for CATIA V4 (MODEL, EXP) _ RTT DirectCatiaV5 for CATIA V5 (CATPART, CATPRODUCT) _ RTT DirectFBX RTT DirectFBX allows RTT DeltaGen users to open FBX files in RTT DeltaGen. In other words, polygon data with ‘skin’ animations are imported as FBX files into RTT DeltaGen. _ RTT DirectIdeas for I-deas (UNV, ARC) _ RTT DirectIges for IGES _ RTT DirectJT for JT _ RTT DirectMaya RTT DirectMaya is a plug-in installed in Autodesk Maya that allows reading and writing CSB files for the exchange of data with RTT DeltaGen. This enables the export of animations from Autodesk Maya into RTT DeltaGen. Furthermore, the RTT MayaTools included in this converter simplify the data preparation in Autodesk Maya. RTT RenderBender offers a partly automated calculation of shadow textures, which subsequently can be placed on geometries within RTT DeltaGen. _ RTT DirectProE for Pro/E (PRT, ASM) _ RTT DirectRhino RTT DirectRhino allows RTT DeltaGen users to open 3DM files from McNeel Rhino in RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaBatch alike. _ RTT DirectSolidWorks for SolidWorks (SLDPRT, SLDASM) 14 _ RTT DirectStep for STEP _ RTT DirectUnigraphics for Unigraphics (PRT, ASM) _ RTT DirectWire RTT DirectWire permits the user to directly open wire files from Autodesk AliasStudio Tools in both RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaBatch. A quick and direct data transfer to RTT DeltaGen is enabled by a plug-in of RTT DirectWire that is installed in Autodesk AliasStudio Tools. _ others on request No additional licenses of the corresponding CAD systems are required to use the above converters. 2.2.2 Analysis RTT Analyzer RTT Analyzer is an optional module for RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaView plus that allows the geometric analysis, measurement and sectioning of models. RTT Analyzer facilitates the fast and intuitive arrangement of section layers. The colors and values of the section layers can be customized to suit personal tastes RTT Analyzer features the following functions: _ Measure Tool: Offers three types of measurement. The distance between two selected points on the geometry or the shortest distance between two selected objects can be determined. Furthermore, the smallest and the biggest gap between two objects can be calculated. The measurement results are shown in a dialogue as well as in a viewer panel. 15 _ Section Tool: Any kind of section is made through geometries and any imaginable section outline or cut of geometries can be shown in the viewer window of the scene and in a separate section viewer. There, the section area can be measured. Objects of the scene can be excluded from the section cut in order to produce partly cut scenes. In addition, various 3D cut layers of one or several models can be viewed in different colors at the same time. _ Measure Cross: A 3D ruler can be located on any spot within the 3D scene to measure models quickly and easily. In addition, a dynamic gauge shows the measurement results in accordance to the camera zoom. _ Vista Check: Enables an analysis of the circumferential view from a vehicle, i.e. in the eyes of the driver conducting that vehicle. The measurement result is visually presented. RTT RealFluid RTT RealFluid is an optional module for RTT DeltaGen and is used to realistically visualize flow simulation computations in realtime. This state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics (CFD) module displays physical processes realistically within the context of vehicle or product design. As such, flow simulations (for example, inside and outside vehicles, aircraft, ships, etc.) can be viewed in a level of quality that was previously not possible. The colored flow paths illustrate how air is moving around the car and having different effects of power on it RTT RealFluid can visualize computational flows and power distribution in realtime in various ways: _ Streamlines (i.e. colored flow paths or interactive smoke trails) _ Section planes _ ISO surfaces 16 Visualizing these simulations, RTT DeltaGen communicates with another application running in parallel so the results can be calculated and transferred in realtime. This is the COVISE server from VISENSO. This server application provides the simulation data and is included in the purchase of an RTT RealFluid license. RTT PathPlanner RTT PathPlanner provides access to the Teraport DMU-Toolkit to determine collision-free movement paths for your scene objects and area envelopes. You can instantly visualize, analyze and obtain valuable information about the path animations on realtime models to help bring your design to life. An additional license for Teraport’s “DMU-Toolkit” is required. RTT Ramsis RTT Ramsis is an optional module for RTT DeltaGen, which allows ergonomic analyses to be carried out in realtime. The module provides the ability to perform sight-cone analysis, accessibility checks and comfort analysis on par with NASA standards with realistic precision. Several models of humans, so-called manikins, can be analyzed simultaneously. It is possible to save and load their postures and positions and to change these parameters interactively through forward and inverse kinematics. Finally, if used as an immersive application in combination with the RTT Immersive module, it is possible to track and ergonomically analyze real people and their postures in RTT DeltaGen. Visual ergonomic experience: RTT Ramsis visualizes visual cone analyses and feasibility studies 17 For RTT Ramsis, an additional license by Human Solutions, ‘Ramsis Core for RTT DeltaGen’, is required. This license can be obtained from RTT. Existing installations from Human Solutions can be used after adaptation (porting). When customers purchase ‘Ramsis Core for RTT DeltaGen’, they can choose a library of anthropometric manikins (human models) that is appropriate for the various countries and cultures of their target markets (supplementary databases have to be licensed separately though). 2.2.3 Presentation RTT Conferencing RTT Conferencing is an optional module for RTT DeltaView plus. This tool lets the user simultaneously review, discuss and comment on designs with colleagues anytime and anywhere. The chairperson can easily pass on scene control to other participants. RTT Conferencing – teamwork in realtime For maximum performance, it is not rendered data that is transferred during the conference but commands based on the users’ local data. The application runs synchronously. The modules RTT Analyzer and RTT Presenter (without ‘Comparison View’) can be used in combination with RTT Conferencing. In order to take part in the conference, each participant needs an individual license. 18 RTT Human RTT Human is an optional module for RTT DeltaGen. It allows human models to be inserted into scenes. The joints of the virtual human beings can be modified interactively by forward and inverse kinematics to produce body movements. A human touch to virtual scenes – human models can easily be integrated into RTT DeltaGen. Body parts can be moved intuitively RTT Human enriches presentations and enables the user to carry out simple proportional studies. If the module is used in connection with an immersive application (such as RTT Immersive), it allows users – for example seated in VR seat buckles – to show themselves as tracked people in the actual scene. The module’s functional range applies to any imported FBX file with skeleton. RTT Human includes three virtual human models and the matching converter RTT DirectFBX. RTT Immersive RTT Immersive is an optional module for RTT DeltaGen. The module provides tracking functions. By using RTT DeltaGen together with RTT Immersive, the tracking functionality of the module allows the user to utilize an HMD (head-mounted display) in RTT DeltaGen scenes. Moreover, when RTT Immersive is used in combination with RTT DeltaGen and RTT Scale plus (or higher), PC clusters with several output channels can be configured to run an angularly-arranged powerwall or a CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) that works together with a tracking system. 19 RTT Immersive lets the user plunge into a virtual room The viewer’s motions are tracked for the camera control in the scene. An additional tracking device will not only enable the user to navigate within the virtual environment, but also to run animations when clicking on objects in that setting. Users can also select control windows which, for example, can be used to choose various navigation modes (‘Examine’, ‘Fly’, ‘Walk’, ‘Drag’) to analyze models using measurements and cross sections (together with the module RTT Analyzer; see above ), or to evaluate alternative designs and animations from various ergonomic perspectives (together with the RTT Ramsis module, see above ). The person controlling the tracking device is in charge of the navigation. U U U U By utilizing the interface ‘trackd’, the use of current tracking devices is enabled for the software. It should be noted that the interface ‘trackd’, however, is not included in RTT Immersive. The interface needs to be purchased from, and licensed by, VRCO Inc. Existing installations can be used. RTT Presenter RTT Presenter is an optional module for both RTT DeltaGen and RTT DeltaView plus. It enables the quick preparation of presentations and allows several models to be positioned simultaneously in one environment (‘Multimodel’). Additionally, these presentations can be saved and provided for users of RTT DeltaView plus. The module also furnishes a dynamic user interface, which not only enables the intuitive navigation through different camera modes, but also the ability to quickly switch model variants. 20 Comparing several vehicle models next to each other – RTT Presenter makes it possible Additional functions: _ Sketch Tool: allows drawing 3D sketches on models _ Joydrive: car models can be steered in any environment via a paddle _ Comparison View: several models can be viewed simultaneously and compared in synchronized viewer windows RTT RealView RTT RealView is an optional module for RTT DeltaGen that combines the real world with the virtual world. This is RTT’s ‘Augmented Reality’ (AR) solution and it allows users to integrate digitally-generated products, prototypes and design concepts with natural and real environments in realtime. This works by connecting a video camera to RTT RealView. The camera images then adopt the role of the virtual environments in RTT DeltaGen. The user can see the respective object in a real environment, move around it freely and interact with it. A reference pattern/image in the environment makes it possible to determine the exact position and perspective of the camera in realtime so that it always appears as though the virtual object is in fact real. Black and white markers (marker tracking) or 2D images (feature-based tracking) can be used as reference patterns/images. 21 Direct comparison of actual and virtual vehicle models in realtime via marker tracking Thanks to the interaction between the camera position and marker movement, RTT RealView is capable of much more than merely positioning a virtual object in an actual, physical environment. For instance, animations and variants can be toggled and changes can be made to the scene via the external interface while RTT RealView is running. A reflection camera can also be used with RTT RealView, enabling reflections from the real world to be transferred to the virtual world. RTT Scale RTT DeltaGen features a unique software architecture that opens the door to possibilities previously unheard of. The practice of ‘one screen – one PC’ no longer applies. The reason for this is RTT Scale, a core element in RTT’s visualization software suite. RTT Scale enables not just more fluidity and interactivity during the display of highly complex scenes, but it means the user is no longer faced with the decision of choosing between visual quality and computing power. This innovative technology also provides an enormous boost in the display speed, even with particularly challenging images that feature realtime raytracing and global illumination. This technology enables interactive performance for highly complex scenes. RTT Scale allows scaling with several graphics processing units or with RTT RealTrace, scaling with several CPU processing units. In addition, it allows scaling with powerwall setups. As a result, RTT Scale can add rendering power to a single-display workstation or several connected workstations, or it can support multi-display powerwalls running with one or more PC clusters. 22 RTT Scale divides rendering jobs cleverly into packages and distributes them to all available processors to boost overall rendering performance RTT Scale is included as a standard functionality for the simultaneous use of up to two GPUs and two CPUs in RTT DeltaGen or RTT DeltaView plus. In order to combine more than two GPUs and two CPUs and to derive even more functional advantages, an optional, supplementary RTT Scale module can be purchased. This additional module allows users in combination with RTT DeltaGen or RTT DeltaView plus to raise rendering speed even more or to set up powerwall/CAVE installations or complex clusters. There are three different types that depend on the maximum number of GPUs and CPUs to be combined: _ RTT Scale plus: up to 10 GPUs and 10 CPUs _ RTT Scale advanced: up to 30 GPUs and 30 CPUs _ RTT Scale unlimited: unrestricted number of GPUs and CPUs The high-performing, modern way of displaying models on a powerwall in real size – RTT Scale renders realtime images extremely fast 23 2.2.4 Image Series RTT LayerCreator RTT LayerCreator is an optional module for RTT DeltaGen that automatically renders image layers from RTT DeltaGen realtime scenes. It enables users to clearly and simply arrange models, environments and effects into layers that can be individually edited, freely combined and displayed or hidden. RTT LayerCreator provides 2D image series and Adobe Flash films as output formats. The module transforms an extremely complex part of production into a simple, automated process. As the layer-based structure displays product variants easily and quickly, it is particularly indispensible in terms of producing configurable marketing or sales content, e.g. for online configuration systems. The modular image structure with layers rendered by RTT LayerCreator and the corresponding Flash output for configurable films ensure maximum flexibility with regard to displaying and creating content. RTT LayerCreator automatically renders image layers from RTT DeltaGen realtime scenes, ensuring maximum flexibility in terms of high-end content creation 24 3 Process-support Software RTT offers two applications in this software category: RTT PictureBook and RTT PowerHouse. RTT PictureBook is a tool for visual process and lifecycle management and also provides comprehensive support for handling graphical assets. It is possible to extend the range of functions that RTT PictureBook offers by licensing additional modules. In addition, the Internet-based platform RTT PowerHouse provides users with maximum flexibility, allowing them to produce high-end visualisations and view them anywhere. All of this takes place in real time and extensive 3D experience is not a pre-requisite. RTT PowerHouse cannot be combined with modules. The applications are described in more detail in section 3.1 and section 3.3. Section 3.2 provides a more specific overview of the functions of the optional software modules for RTT PictureBook. 3.1 RTT PictureBook A huge amount of data and information is created during a new product’s development and design phase. Keeping track of details and changes is often easier said than done. Who worked on which details? Which changes have been made and which still have to be processed? RTT PictureBook provides answers to all these questions – and many others. It is an integrated and unique solution for the management of visual files that also helps teams stay connected while ensuring transparency by relying on images. The relationship between RTT DeltaGen and RTT PictureBook ensures flexible and transparent workflows so that each team member is always able to stay on top of the project. 25 RTT PictureBook manages visual assets. Users can toggle between different custom views to check them individually and efficiently RTT PictureBook – both a presentation platform and a process-oriented asset management system – ensures transparency and optimal communication. The server-based solution permits the user to store design statuses in a structured way, to link them to annotations and finally, to monitor the individual development stages. Its user-friendly Web interface allows decision makers to review progress and to simply retrieve and compare specific design statuses. Additionally, virtual reviews can be quickly and easily created from the design data saved. A replication service is needed to guarantee the secure exchange of data. 3.2 Add-on Modules As mentioned earlier, the RTT Process-support software RTT PictureBook includes optional add-on modules in order to expand the range of functions. 3.2.1 RTT Composer Thanks to the support of RTT PowerHouse, RTT Composer allows global flexibility in creating product images for all varieties of communication measures. Interactive 3D models can be utilized in realtime to create visualizations within the web browser entirely independent of operating system, hardware or location. Due to the intuitive user interface with photographic views, no technical knowledge is required. Data security is completely guaranteed. 28 3.2.2 RTT PDMConnector The new RTT PDMConnector loads CAD data via RTT PictureBook 5.5 directly from the leading PDM system, TeamCenter®, into RTT DeltaGen. Structural components and geometries can be utilized comfortably and directly in the realtime visualization. Convenient filters enable the dedicated selection of CAD components that are relevant to the VR process, and updates made at the component level are massively accelerated. 29 3.3 RTT PowerHouse RTT PowerHouse is oriented toward the requirements of visual marketing. The Web-based and largely hardware-independent real time server makes it possible to view and output high-end 3D visualizations, films and images for almost any application, anywhere and at any time. The highly efficient real time or offline creation of marketing materials and real time design reviews via the Internet are just two of the numerous applications RTT PowerHouse offers. One of the major benefits of the real time server is that real time models can be reused an unlimited number of times. These can be used flexibly at any time for marketing purposes or for internal product presentations. RTT PowerHouse also enables users to automate certain processes to a considerable extent. Repeatable activities can be redefined with different models and parameters and then rendered automatically. It is used to carry out a development project in conjunction with the end users.
