MARJORIE GUYON
MARJORIE GUYON Guyon’s work is simultaneously contemporary and ancient - layers of history and time combine into visual poetry. To build her compositions, she applies marble dust and builds the surface with glazed pigment - earth from all over the world. Layer upon layer of the two elements build up, under and over collage elements, creating a story. The image simultaneously emerges from, yet disappears into, an ancient surface. Her work appears in group and solo exhibitions in New York City, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Memphis and Los Angeles. She is known as well for the Nation of Nations Project piloting now in Saratoga and Albany through the Capital District YMCA. Significant awards and grants include The National Congress of Art and Design Award of Excellence, New Forms Regional Initiative Grant, NEA and Rockefeller Foundation. Her work appears in numerous private and public collections.
