02. How to reach us.
By Car:
From Naples (60 Km), Highway A3 Salerno/Reggio Calabria - Exit
Castellammare di Stabia - SS145 to Sorrento, then SS143 Amalfi Coast. From
Salerno (34 Km): Salerno, then direction SS163 Amalfi Coast.
By train:
Napoli Centrale (North) and Salerno (South) stations. "Circumvesuviana"
railway to Sorrento from the central station of Naples and from Sorrento,
Positano, Amalfi and Salerno buses of the "Sita" company.
By plane:
The handiest airport for the Amalfi Coast is Naples Capodichino, connected by
public buses to the centre of Naples, Sorrento and from Sorrento to Amalfi Coast.
By boat:
From Naples, Salerno and Sorrento daily runs to Amalfi and Positano.

Excursions:
Ravello and Amalfi
Your driver will drive through the wonderful countryside of the Amalfi Coast,
with its local traditions. You can start going to Ravello at about 10 am and visit
the fascinating Duomo, built in 12th century. The famous Villa Rufolo with its
bell-tower and the enchanted place which gave inspiration to Richard Wagner
for his music. Do not miss Villa Rufolo Belvedere, the famous terrace where
summer classical concerts are held.
Various restaurants are in town for a lovely meal.
The tour could continue to Amalfi (on the way back to Praiano). There after a
stroll through its white narrow back streets , you may linger in the famous
piazza, perhaps sitting in one of the caffè, sipping an espresso or tasting a typical
pastry while admiring the famous arabesque cathedral of Saint Andrea.
Naples full day.
At about 8.00 am, transfer to Naples, a city rich in tradition, art, museums and
galleries. Option to visit the National Archaeological Museum, the most famous
of its kind in Europe. Stop for the best coffee in town. Panoramic tour to take in
the most beautiful and famous sights of the city, including: Maschio Angioino,
Umberto Galleria, San Carlo Opera House, the Royal Palace, Posillipo Hill,
Mergellina bay and its beautiful promenade.

Sorrento tour and shopping.
After driving for about 45 minutes, you reach Sorrento town where shopping is
for sure one of the most amusing and curious activities to do. The variety of
articles and shops is so wide that you have too much to choose from.
Corso Italia and Via S. Cesareo are the main shopping roads, the beating heart of
the town. Many-coloured shops and wares follow one another along an ancient
Greek-Roman route where visitors from every part of the world crowd,
enlivening and animating the milieu.
It is possible to purchase handicrafts such as inlaid works, artistic ceramics and
scented wax, or "limoncello" sweets, "rosolio" liqueur, jams and preserved
vegetables, or silver jewels, corals and cameos, valuable embroideries on tablecloths and handkerchiefs, Neapolitan eighteenth century crib’s figurines or
composition of withered flowers.
Pompeii half day.
The visit starts with a transfer of about one hour to the most famous
archaeological sites in the world. Wandering in the ancient streets of the town to
admire the Baths, Forums and Villas built by prosperous Romans. Our concierge
team always suggest to visit Pompeii ruins with a tour guide that can be
arranged at front desk.
Pompeii full day.
On your way back after the same excursion of the half day tour (see Pompeii
half day) you can choose different itineraries such as:
-Ravello-Amalfi
-Sorrento coast and Sorrento town
-Hercolaneum Archeological site or Vesuvius
Shopping between outlets and malls.
Departure from hotel about 10.00am to reach the “shopping lovers” paradise.
Outlet Village “La Reggia”, nearby Caserta town, is the biggest outlet shopping
centre of South Italy, usually open from 9.00 to 22.00pm.

05. Private Boat Services and Tours
The best way to enjoy the entire coast of Amalfi and Positano with its hidden
crystalline water bays is by sea on our fabulous Master Angelina Boat. Master
Angelina is a luxury cruiser, classy in its shiny wood, it will take you wherever
you wish to go with all the comforts, driven by its 600 hp engine. With our
captain Giancarlo, you will discover the coast, stopping anywhere you like and
enjoying drinks on board. The full day (8 hours) rate is € 850,00 (excluding
VAT) or € 550,00(excluding VAT) for half day (4 hours). The boat fits very
comfortably up to 10 passengers departing from “La Gavitella” beach just
beneath the hotel reachable by elevator plus approximately 200 steps. Our
concierge team can arrange tailor made excursions. Here below please find a list
of different itineraries to discover our amazing surroundings by sea.
Like Hollywood stars in Capri.
The suggested time to start this trip is between 9 and 11 am and the departure is
usually from La Gavitella pier. On the way you can stop anytime for a refreshing
dive in to the blue waters surrounding the island or in the magic Baia di Ieranto.
A good idea could be to have lunch in one of the hidden restaurants, right close
to the see and overlooking the famous Capri’s faraglioni rocks. Once on the
island you will enjoy free time on the island. By cable car located in front of the
harbour, you can reach the famous “Piazzetta” and walk to Via Cammarelle a
paradise for shopping lovers. We also suggest to visit the town of Anacapri as it
is the most peculiar part of the island. Our Skipper Giancarlo will wait for you at
the port until you will be ready to return.
Emerald grotto and Amalfi
Departing from our beach, you can enjoy a beautiful half day exploring the
spectacular coast.
Enjoy a 4 hour private cruise admiring Positano, the famous fiord of Furore,
Conca de Marini, with a visit to Emerald Grotto, and finally the ancient maritime
republic of Amalfi. If you want, Giancarlo will stop to offer you the experience of
swimming in the blue sea and stony beaches of Duoglio or Santa Croce, before
retuning back to Praiano.
A fresh dip between Li Galli islands and Nerano
Directing the prow towards Li Galli Islands, you will have the amazing swim in
the beautiful clear waters. It is here, according to the verses of the Odyssey, that
Ulysses resisted the song of the sirens. Going to the cave of the Madonnina del
Mare the skipper will let you swim in the translucent waters. Proceeding along
the coast to Nerano, if you like, you can have lunch in a Michelin starred
restaurant as for instance “I Quattro Passi” or in a typical trattoria as “Le Sirene”.

This tour can be arranged also at night time dining perhaps in the Recommone
bay and the famous restaurant “ La conca del Sogno”.
And for the most romantics: Capri by night.
The experience of the breathtaking night excursion to Capri will make your
holiday unique. You can imagine a departure in the late afternoon, during the
spectacular sunset. Master Angelina will fly on the waves and will take you in a
short time to Capri. Of course at that time during the summer the water is warm
and tempting, and thanks to the comfortable cabin with a complete bathroom,
you might take the chance of a first swim and a later shower before arriving on
firm land. On the island, we will reserve dinner at the most traditional trattoria
or the fanciest restaurant. After dinner, you can take one of the typical
convertible cab to arrive at the famous Piazzetta, where the most amazing
crowd share this slice of paradise called Capri. For the nightlife lovers, a night at
the famous live music club “Anema e Core” is a must. Late in the evening,
Giancarlo will take you back on board. Few miles before home, you cannot miss
a midnight swim, under the stars and why not, cheer to your holiday with a glass
of champagne.

06. Trekking tours
Walking lovers, as an alternative, could discover the nearest mountain
experiencing the particular Trekking walk.
Path of Gods:
The “Sentiero degli Dei” is an excursion in the Amalfi Coast added to the world
heritage sites for its geographical beauty.
The path is called this way because while walking it looks like you are floating
between the sky and the sea, and as the “gods”, one will be able to enjoy the view
from the top of the Amalfitan Coast, in particular Praiano and Positano.
“Tall Path”: This path will bring you from Santa Maria del Castello to Bomerano,
and, it is the most difficult, intense and demanding, especially for its elevation
which goes from the 650 meters above sea level in Santa Maria di Castello to the
1079 of Capo Muro, to then descend back to the 633 meters above sea level of
Bomerano, ending point of this path, which is also the starting point of the “short
path”.
“Short Path”: This path goes from Bomerano to Nocelle. It is a very comfortable
excursion as well as exiciting, and to a certain extent, also more suggestive than
the tall path. The course is entirely downhill, even though in some parts you can
find stairs and uphills.
An unmissable spot is certainly the Convent of Saint Domenico from the 16 th
century and the church of S. Maria in Castro that was built in the 12th century.
One of the most fascinating and beautiful places to visit is without doubt the
stretch that goes from Grotta Biscotto to Nocelle, an exceptional view point.
From the small and characteristic village of Nocelle you can continue your walk
to Positano, which should last around 30 minutes.
La Valle delle Ferriere:
This fantastic excursion allows you to reach Amalfi through the natural reserve
of the Ferriere Valley, a woodland rich of chestnut trees, falls and spring.
Surrounded by Mount Cervigliano, the area is considered to be a completely
separate micro climate, that allows rare species of plants to survive, such as the
Woodwardia radicans, an extremely rare example of fern of the pre-ice age.
Starting points are from San Lazzaro (Agerola) or from Atrani.

07. Amalfi Coast Scubadiving
For the fans of scuba diving, there are two ways of discovering Amalfi Coast. The
first one above sea level and the second one completely submerged, where both
hidden wonders and mysteries of unequal beauty. There are dozens of different
spots for scuba diving, for every diver’s level, each one suggestive and
breathtaking.
We propose different options:
Isca Grotto and the Sapphire Grotto:
This immersion doesn’t present any particular trouble, but it is still one of the
incredible colour spectrum and vivacity of the underwater landscape which is
revealed to the divers.
The rocky walls of Isca Grotto create an amazing light reflex that produces some
unique light effects across the tunnel wall cracks. Not far away, it is possible to
reach the Sapphire Grotto, that for its special colour, is certainly one of the most
amazing grottoes of the peninsula.
The entrance is placed only at 3 meters below sea level, which continues in a
narrow rocky passage reaching 12 meters below sea level. Inside the grotto
there is 35 meters wide and above the water level it is rich of marvellous
stalagmites and stalactites that in some cases touch each other, creating unique
forms.
Secchetella dei Galli:
It’s one of the most beautiful and suggestive destinations for scuba diving lovers
in the area, particularly for the extraordinary variety of scenarios and creatures
that the place has to offer. The Secchetella dei Galli, difficult to spot even when
waters are crystal clear, erects till 6 meters from sea level between Cetara and
“Li Galli”.
You can decide to handle the immersion in different ways, depending on the
scuba divers skills, but always hides exciting surprises.
Diving across the yellowish Gorgonies and the red Paramunicee, deep into the
sea, with some luck you can encounter some unusual guests!!
Ischitella:
This immersion is appropriate for every diving level and it is performed on the
wall of a rock in the proximity of Praiano. The slope is gradual, allowing even
unexperienced divers to easily the chosen depth. It is possible to admire yellow
Gogonias, sponges and other typical sea organism already at a few meters below
the sea.
Expert divers may visit the Shrimp Grotto located 40 meters below the sea level,
the Red Coral and the Red Gogornians forest.
Even the sea fauna is very rich, indeed in the numerous cracks of the rocky walls
you can find groupers, lobsters, moray eels.

08. Visiting Positano
Positano thanks to its mild climate and the beauty of its landscape has been a
holiday place since the Empire Roman’s Age.
The Spiaggia Grande and the Fornillo beach are both reachable thanks to the
typical not ending “stairs”, better known as scalinate.
The legend recounts that, many years ago, a ship carrying a Byzantine painting
of the Holy Mary was ploughing through the Tyrrhenian Sea, in front of Positano.
The sailing ship could not sail again, when the sailors heard “POSA POSA”, which
meant stop there, in that spot. They got near the shore and the Positano people
took the painting of the Holy Mary and brought it in the S. Vito’s Church, which is
the patron of Positano. By then Positano people started the construction of the
new church dedicated to the Holy Mary, which is celebrated every year on the
15th August.
Today, the church is one of the most beautiful churches in Italy.
Li Galli Isles:
From the hotel pier you can rent a boat to explore the coastal caves and the
rocky isles of Li Galli opposite Positano. By tradition, these three outcroppings
are the home of the Sirens, made so famous by Homer in the trials of Odysseus.
The largest one was the Summer residence of Rudolf Nureyev. He carried on a
tradition of Russian ownership, after Diaghilev at the turn of the last century:
The other two, with barely a flat surface upon them, are uninhabited except for
scrub pines and seagulls. Perfect location for a tranquil swim in the warm water.

09. Visiting Amalfi
Amalfi reached its highest splendour in the XI century, but then a fast decline
started that ended in 1343, when a storm followed by a seaquake destroyed a
big part of the city.
The most important monument in Amalfi is the Cathedral Dome, which has an
arabic-sicilian style and nowadays it is dedicated to Sant’Andrea, patron of the
city. The peculiarity of the Cathedral is that the building is composed by the
overlap of different churches of different ages. For traditions, every year a crew
of amalfitan oarsmen participates to the boat race of the Antiche Repubbliche
Marinare, challenging Genova, Pisa and Venice. Very important in the story of
the city was the paper industry. Unfortunately, nowadays it has lost its
importance, even if there is an important Paper Museum to visit in Amalfi.
Duomo di Amalfi:
The magnificent Cathedral of Amalfi dominates the main square and is the clock
of the city. Built in the X century and rebuilt throughout the centuries.
The superb façade shows us various styles, and already during the XIV century
the new Cathedral was adorned with two Gothic Columns and a mosaic (on the
façade) that represents Saint Andrew. The magnificent Bell Tower from the XII
century is entirely decorated in green and yellow tiles rises above the main
entrance doors made of bronze.
Directly from the Cathedral you can enter into the Cloister of Paradise, built
between 1266 and 1268 it is delicately decorated in Moorish style. In 1728 a
splendid staircase that gives access to the Cathedral was built to substitute the
already existing one in 1452. Around the middle of the last century the Baroque
façade of the Cathedral was badly damaged, and for this reason was remade. The
renovation revealed the antique Roman façade with arches, columns and mosaic
and for this reason they decided to remake a façade similar to the original.
The renovations finished in 1891, and gave back the typical Medieval façade
adorned with Byzantine tiles.

10. Visiting Ravello
Ravello was founded in c. V a.c. as a refuge against the barbarian, and from that
moment the population started increasing, prospering in wool craftsmanship
and with the trade in the Mediterranean sea.
Ravello sees its top moment in 1086 when, winning against Amalfi, it became
Bishop’s See.
After the ravages of 1137, Ravello suffered an economic and demographic crisis;
beginning from c. XIV a.c. big part of the population moved to Napoli,
determining the decadence of Ravello. The beautiful village returned to its
splendour in the last century, thanks to intellectuals and artists which
appreciated Ravello as a tourist elite place.
Duomo di Ravello:
The Cathedral of Ravello - dedicated in the past to the Virgin, and then to Saint
Pantaleone (martyr) - is a monument of particular splendour that stands in the
Vescovado square, situated at the highest point of the town.
The Cathedral was built around 1086-1087, but throughout the centuries
especially in the XVII, underwent substantial modifications which altered the
spirit of the Cathedral although leaving the structure intact. Excellent is the front
door features made of bronze. The Cathedral inside is adorned with two
splendid pulpits inlayed in marble: on the right the pulpit of the Gospel and on
the left another one of the Byzantine era.
In the 16th century the Chapel, the blood of Saint Pantaleone is kept inside of a
jar, a relic that has been there since 1112 and shows the phenomena of the
liquefaction.
Villa Rufolo:
A building in the historical centre of Ravello, which is in front of the Cathedral in
Vescovado Square. Its initial structure came from the XIII century, with
important changes made around 1800.
You can enter the Villa thanks to an ogival opening in the entrance Tower, after a
short hallway you arrive to a widening dominated by the Torre Maggiore (Big
Tower) which is in front of the Bell Tower of the Cathedral that overhangs the
coast of Amalfi and the Gulf of Salerno.
Villa Cimbrone:
In the town of Ravello there is an historical building located on a rocky peak on
the Amalfi Coast with an extensive and magnificent park, with its famous
“Terrazza dell’Infinito” (The terrace of the Infinite).
The term “Cimbrone” comes from the antique denomination of the rocky
mountain of Cimbronium where the ruins of a Roman Villa can be found.

The Villa is now a hotel, while the vast gardens may be visited for a fee by the
public. They can be reached only by foot from the historical centre of Ravello.
11. Visiting Pompei
Today Pompei attracts visitors from all over the world, who are looking for what
is left of the splendours of the antique Roman Empire. In 79 A.C. Pompei was
partially destroyed and covered by the eruption of the Volcano Mount Vesuvius,
even though years before it had suffered a catastrophic earthquake damaging
Pompei and the city of Ercolano.
Pompei was badly damaged, but reconstruction took place immediately.
Seventeen years later, while reconstruction was still ongoing the city and its
inhabitants lived one of the most worst tragedies of ancient history.
A tragedy that turned into a miracle because, after being buried under metres of
ash and pumice, it was brought to the surface and is the second most visited
archaeological site in the World. The city brought to the light for the first time in
1748, thanks to the excavations financed by Carlo di Borbone (Charles of
Bourbon) and gradually discovering the beautiful Villas with frescoes preserved
in time.
Today the excavation are still ongoing in order to give the modern civilization
the treasures of the past. In 1997 the excavations of Pompei,
along
with
Ercolano and Oplontis, were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This
decision made by the Committee of UNESCO was based on the consideration of
the extra cultural report of the works of art found in Pompei, Ercolano and the
surrounding area in 79 A.C. providing an extraordinarily detailed insight into the
life of the city at the moment in time, and nowhere else in the World has this
been found.
Two millions of people visit every year the Archaeological excavations of
Pompeii.

12. Visiting Capri
There is so much to see, from the colorful port of Marina Grande to the
glamorous Piazzetta where the world's most famous people hang out; from the
ruins of Emperor Tiberius' villas to the Charterhouse of San Giacomo and the
spectacular Via Krupp. You can take the chair lift to the top of Monte Solaro. You
can walk along paths leading to incredible rock formations such as the Natural
Arch and the Faraglioni. You can marvel at the glimmering blue of the Grotta
Azzurra and you can fall in love with Capri just like thousands of visitors before
you...
Via Krupp:
It was the early 20th century German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp who
commissioned the engineer Emilio Mayer to design and build a pathway which
would link Marina Piccola, where he usually moored his yacht each summer,
with the area surrounding the Charterhouse of San Giacomo and the Gardens of
Augustus - close to his suite at the Hotel Quisisana. So as to overcome a
difference in height of approximately 100 meters, the engineer cut a series of
hair pin bends into the rock, set so close together that they appear almost to
overlap.
Make your way down by foot to reach Marina Piccola and, if you don't
fancy the uphill return, travel back to the center by bus!
La Piazzetta :
The islanders call it ''a chiazz", or piazza. On the maps , Capri's most famous
square is called Piazza Umberto I. For the rest of the world it's the Piazzetta. One
thing everybody agrees on, is that it's the heart of the island where, sooner or
later, all those visiting Capri come to watch the world goes by.
Facing onto the Piazzetta, you'll find a newsagents, a small tourist information
office and the town hall - this located directly opposite the flight of steps which
lead up to the island's ex-cathedral. The real protagonists are, of course, the
pavement cafes; one for each corner of the piazza. This is where mere mortals
get the chance to mingle with the stars of the silver screen, photogenically
sipping their coffee or cocktail at one of the bars' little whicker tables.
The Piazzetta has always been the center of life on the island. In the past, it
served as market square, where fish, vegetables and, occasionally, meat (until
recent times meat was a rare commodity), was sold. In 1938, the young islander,
Raffaele Vuotto, placed a few tables outside his bar in the Piazzetta and from
that moment on, the square became a fashionable meeting place for both locals
and visitors who, until that time, had socialized either at home or in the island's
hotels.
Today, Capri's celebrity-packed Piazzetta provides the perfect hunting
ground for camera-clicking paparazzi, eager to capture images of the rich and
famous, and holidaymakers hoping to brush shoulders with their favorite

Hollywood star.
Grotta Azzurra:
Climb aboard one of the little wooden rowing boats bobbing in the water outside
the cave, lie back and wait while the sailor maneuvers the boat through the
narrow entrance. At first, all you'll see is the darkness. Then, all of a sudden, the
cavern fills with a flickering blue and silver light and the sound of Neapolitan
songs. You're in the Grotta Azzurra, the most famous of all Capri's tourist
attractions. Entering into this magical blue world is an experience that you'll
never forget. The cavity is approximately 60 meters long and 25 meters wide.
The roof of the entrance is situated approximately 1 meter above the level of the
sea and, for this reason, passengers are obliged to lie down in the boat whilst
passing in to the cave. The boatman sets down his oars and maneuvers the boat
inside with the aid of a chain attached to the vault of the entrance.
Faraglioni:
Think Capri. One of the first images to come to mind will, no doubt, be that of the
Faraglioni: the three spurs of rock which rise up out of the sea, within meters of
the island's Southern coast. The rocks have each been given a name: the first,
still attached to the land, is called Stella, the second, separated from the first
block by a stretch of sea; Faraglione di Mezzo and the third, Faraglione di Fuori
or Scopolo, meaning the head or promontory stretching into the sea. The
Scopolo sea stack provides the unique habitat for the Podarcis sicula coerulea.
The rock is, in fact, the only place in the world where you can find this lizard, the
blue color of which is said to be the result of the amphibian's vicinity to the sea
and sky. The average height of the Faraglioni is 100 meters. The Faraglione di
Mezzo is characterized by a central cavity, large enough to allow for the passage
of a small boat.

The Charterhouse of San Giacomo:
Built in 1371 by Giacomo Arcucci, on land donated by Queen Giovanna 1st of
Angiò, the Charterhouse of San Giacomo is the oldest historic building on the
Island of Capri. The entrance to the Charterhouse lies at the end of an avenue,
next to a fortified tower. The Charterhouse is comprised of three blocks of
buildings: one is separated from the convent and houses the pharmacy and
women's church; one for the converse monks and for the external guests with
annexed granaries, stables and the monks workshops; the last block was
reserved for the life of seclusion with a series of cells around Choistro Grande
cloister and the other rooms encircling the smaller Chiostro Piccolo.
The Chiostro Grande follows a late renaissance plan with cross vaults on stone
columns, the area at the center is organised following a geometrical design with
green spaces. The Chiostro Piccolo has delicate cross vaults on Roman marble
columns.
Today, the Charterhouse is seat of a High School, of the Diefenbach
Museum and, during the summer, functions as venue for concerts and cultural
events.

of the day.

Shopping in Sorrento:
Sorrento historical centre is the ideal place for shopping, from the seafront to
the narrow streets, leading to the main street area thousand souvenirs can be
found. Typical hand-craft marquetry, hand-stitched tablecloths, coloured
handmade sandals, distilleries and local gastronomic products.
The inlaid wooden marquetry realized by the Sorrentine artisan, they patiently
and skillfully decorated wooden objects with delicate inlays creating a variety of
patterns and colours. Their workshops are lined with piles of small boxes
pressed into clamps, put out in open air for glue to dry in the sun. This gives
character and colour to the streets making pleasant to walk all around the old
town. You can also buy a myriad delicacies: limoncello liqueurs painted bottles,
almond and lemon cakes, orange patries, buiscuits, jams, local handmade ice
cream. Along the main street, Corso Italia, many shops offer the most famous
“Made in Italy” brands.
Correale di Terranova Museum:
The most precious and interesting collection of fine arts coming from the many
Correale houses in Naples and Sorrento, collected in the “Villa alla Rota", by
Alfredo and Pompeo Correale, counts of Terranova. The museum,opened in
1924, has been defined “the most beautiful provincial museum of Italy”. A rich
collection of paintings from 17th and 18th centuries, attributed to Artemisia
Gentileschi, Battistello Caracciolo, Solimena, Van Dyck, Kassel and Belvedere.
From the famous Neapolitan school of Posillipo some paintings by Pitloo,
Duclère, Gigante and Palizzi revealing "southern landscapes of great charm".
An
excellent porcelain collection from the most important European factories:
Meissen, Sevres, Bow, Wien and of course Capodimonte. Beautiful furniture,
rare consoles, precious glass from Murano and Bohemia, rare table
clocks recreating the suggestive atmosphere of an aristocratic home. The
Correale family loved collecting the best.
The Wooden Marquetry Shop-Museum – Museo Bottega della Tarsia Lignea:
Located in the historical centre of Sorrento, in a patrician palace of the 18 th
century. In the halls of frescoed vaults and roof covered with hand-painted wallpaper, a rich collection of inlaid wooden furniture and objects made by
local marquetry masters of the 19th century is on display. The exhibition of the
Italian and foreign artists’ paintings of the 19th century, of ancient printings and
photos, let us reconstruct the 19th century image of the Sorrento coast, of the
environmental and historical context where the local inlaid production was
developed.

Sorrento Cathedral:
Built early fifteenth century in Romanesque style it has been restored several
times up to the 1924 when the entire facade was rebuilt. Noteworthy the side
door from 1474 in Renaissance style inside the church, in addition to its
baptistery, where the most well known citizens of the town were baptized, there
are many paintings of the Neapolitan school of the 1700 century, an archbishop
throne in fine marbles and several wooden marquetry works of local
artisans such as the pictures of Via Crucis or the wooden panels of both main
and side doors. All these are works of contemporary young artisans of
marquetry art. Noteworthy is the bell tower’s base from the Romanesque age
probably built around the 1100s with various types of trunks of columns,
alternating classic and Byzantine capitals with different type of marble
fragments. This construction is important to the town’s urban history since the
small spaces, under the raised arches, were used for public meetings. The upper
part of the tower was either rebuilt or at least greatly reduced to its present size
around the 15th century.

Cristo Velato - Veiled Christ:
In the historical heart of Naples, built in the late 1500s, this gem of Italian
artistic heritage was greatly influenced by the famous Raimondo de Sangro VII,
Prince of Sansevero, a genius of science.
Piazza del Gesù Nuovo:
This square is cut in two by SpaccaNapoli, the famous, ancient road in Naples.
There are some of the city’s most important monuments here: Palazzo Pignatelli,
the Guglia dell'Immacolata (a huge church spire), the Church of Gesù Nuovo, the
Monastery of Santa Chiara.
This church originated in 1300 and was restored after the Second World War
during which it was damaged in air-raid bombing. It was returned to its original
Provencal Gothic style. The funeral monument of Robert I of Anjou is to be
noted.
Duomo di San Gennaro:
This was built around the end of the 12th century. The Cathedral of Naples has
undergone several restorations over the centuries, partly carried out to repair
the damage from earthquakes and partly to increase its artistic beauty. The
relics of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples are kept in the cathedral.
Here twice a year the Miracle of San Gennaro takes place, when the Martyr's
blood (saved into an ampulla) liquefies, announcing that there will be no
calamities for Neapolitans.
Galleria Umberto I :
This gallery was built at the end of the nineteenth century. Galleria Umberto is
an imposing building with four wings in iron and glass and a wonderful, huge
dome in the middle. The style is similar to that of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele
in Milan.
Posillipo Hill:
This hill, that is part of the sides of a crater, separates the Gulf of Naples from
Pozzuoli dalla Grotta Romana. Since ancient times, this area has always been
considered a residential area, where it is possible to rest from the efforts of city
life. The very name of the area is a demonstration of this: the Greek term
Pausilypon means "a respite from pain”. The beautiful villas with their
wonderful views over the Gulf can still be admired today, like, for example, the
seventeenth century Palazzo Donn Anna.

National Archeological Museum:
This is the most important archeological museum in Europe and contains the
collection of objects that belonged to the Bourbon family and also a series of
bronzes, sculptures and other objects found in the digs at Pompeii and
Herculaneum. The famous “Tirannicidi” and all the sculptures on show in the
"Galleria dei Grandi Maestri" (Great Masters Gallery) must be seen.
Capodimonte Museum and Gallery:
This Museum, opened in 1950, houses works of art ranging from the 13th to the
18th century which belonged to the Farnese family and which were then
inherited by the Bourbon family. The "Roman Collection" that includes works of
art by Michelangelo, Tiziano, El Greco, Raffaello and Botticelli is an essential part
of any visit.

French oak barriques. Vinification takes place using the most modern
techniques, combining nature and technology.

with nature, Cantine Marisa Cuomo experiments techniques to steal land from

The wine tasting is operative from January to August and is unavailable between
September and December as the winery is occupied with the picking and the

Mamma Agata:
They say that life is made up of moments, which sharpen your senses and
reinforce your sight. All comes together, and you realize how fortunate you are
to be in the moment, and recognize it for what it is.
This is the feeling that overcomes you sitting on Mamma Agata's terrace, high up
in the clouds in a jewel of a small Italian town called Ravello. Water surrounds
your view and the air is like white gold. On the table before you are numerous
little dishes holding secrets that taste like treasures. You can't stop eating
everything, in between the stories and colour that make up the conversation.
She prepares a meal with both the love and respect that it commands. She has
been cooking most of her life; since her teenage years in the nearby summer
villa of a wealthy American woman, who had entertained many illustrious
personalities in the 50's 60's.
They called her "Baby Agata", since she was so young but dedicated to her craft.
Either cooking for a large gathering or an impromptu poolside lunch, the
approach was always the same. Traditional dishes with regional ingredients
replaced formal ones and Mamma Agata always remembered her guests'
favourites. When Fred Astaire came to call, after a lunch of spaghetti alla

puttanesca, he would waltz the hostess's elderly mother around the courtyard.
Humphrey Bogart was more reserved, and quietly ate his alici fritti while taking
in the view. The pasta e fagioli was a dish exclusively reserved for Anita Eckberg,
a gloriously tall woman with skin like milk. But, my favourite memory that
Mamma Agata shared with me is that of Jacqueline Kennedy, who impressed her
with "un eleganza molto simplice" an elegant simplicity that was unique only to
her, enjoying mozzarella and tomato salad beside the pool.
